what do you look for in porn? what makes a porn movie good? what makes it awful? booby girls? well-hung guys? theme? plot? lighting? :P
i'm a bit wishy washy when it comes to porn. i sometimes like some story i can follow, like in 'the training of O.' yet, sometimes i prefer the formula: two girls, a hung guy and a bed.

If it's mainstream porn, I look for a particular star. During the Eighties, the decade I became a big porn fan, I looked for (among others) Christy Canyon, Ginger Lynn, Amber Lynn, Keisha, Seka, Nina Hartley--and before she nearly crashed the entire industry, the actress whose name rhymes with "Macy Hordes." Storyline, while important, wasn't a big concern--if it had a good story it was a bonus
During the Nineties, I gravitated towards the big-bust stars--Kimberly Kupps, Lisa Lipps, Tawny Peaks, Tami Monroe, Stacy Valentine, and many others. Same as above with regards to the story.
These days I tend to go after porn that feeds my fetish, which is Hypnotizing and seducing women. While there's a lot more of that these days than there as before, I still look for it to turn up in the mainstream. As for stars today, I'm not as familiar with them as I used to be--I need to spend more time in the back of my local video store. Bree Olsen is a really gorgeous looker, and from what I understand she truly loves to fuck. There's also my all-time favorite, Taylor Wane.

I look for a few things; Mainly, particular women or particular looks in women. Secondary to that is the type of scene. I prefer fm, or ffm. I also prefer scenes wherein the woman brings the man to completion as opposed to the male jack-off to completion. That's really difficult to avoid so it's a criteria that's often set aside.
What makes a scene or movie awful?
Bangbus and Money Talks are awful.
But okay, really bad camera work and scenes that go on way too long. Camera work in which they fail to show any enticing physical characteristics in the players is just mind boggling. A specific and recent example is in Private School Nymphos (2004). There is an unknown redhead in one scene. She keeps her top on for much of the scene. But when you finally get the reveal, the camera is behind her. You never really get a good look at her body.
Extreme close-ups of male hairy balls and asses for prolonged periods of time bring the quality of a scene way down. Show the audience some breasts, legs, lovely faces. If the male is attractive then put him in view as well.
Facials don't interest me. I'd rather see the woman catching it in her mouth or jerking the guy to completion. Bubbles don't interest me either. I'd rather see them swallow or spit. A face with semen all over it mars the beauty of the face of the woman in the scene. But I realize I'm in the minority so these kinds of things can be overlooked if a woman is of particular interest or the scene is somehow noteworthy in other ways.

I'm not that picky, but I tend to lose interest if the action looks too phony or stiff or if the girls are all looks w/ no personality; most Euro porn is a good example of this from my experience. Good energy between the performers is the key really. There are other things that are a plus for me, like certain positions, bare feet, quality cumshots, etc, etc, but imo, the basic formula shouldn't be that hard to pin down.

Attractive women having good sex with the guys is what I look for in porn.
It's easy to see on the box-cover how attractive the women are. But judging the quality of their sex in the film without watching the film first is bit more tricky.
There is no direct way to know how good the sex is. But some indirect signs can tell you a lot. Such as the lady's willingness to have anal sex with the guys. And her willingness to take on two or more guys at the same time.
Anal sex is usually the last sexual inhibition for any lady to drop. And the lady's willingness to spread her nice ass for the horny guys is a good sign that she is probably uninhibited in everything she does with them.
And when you know that the lady takes on two or more guys in her scene. Then you can be sure that she gets a pretty good sex-workout from them. Because the more guys she takes on, the more sex she must have to satisfy them all. There is no escape from such a simple law of mathematics. Unless there are two ladies in the scene. And the lady you like slacks off.
I think box-covers should be more informative about each lady and not just in general about the film. Because when I see a lady I like on the box-cover. Then immediately I want to know whether she has anal sex with the guys and how many guys she takes on in her scene? And such specific information about each lady quite often is hard to find on the box-cover. Which makes choosing porn films more difficult that it needs to be.
