Dines is an absolute hack of an academic. She's already been taken to task by other sociologists regarding "Pornland" and its total lack of any significant data to back up her claims. She simply used a cultural studies approach to connect pornography to sexist representations of women in all of media. What's silly about this if she were being even remotely sincere in her desire to advocate on behalf of sex-workers there are a number of legitimate criticisms she could have made. However given that her stated goal is the all-out demolition of pornography, she has to go over-the-top in her claims. There was a telling exchange a couple years ago on Twitter where some female performers (I believe Alaina Fox was one) were openly critical of Dines' and her actually harming sex-workers with her black and white view of the situation. Dines basically just wrote them off as being "tools of patriarchy". Take away the pseudo-scholarship and she's exactly the same as the earlier evangelical conservative activists who used the "think of the children!" approach to try and ban pornography
This. She is indeed contributing to harmful discourse. She is a fraud who willingly spreads misinformation, bad scholarship, and reinforces hatred of sex workers. She is also cruel and mocking toward her fellow academics that are not anti-porn (for example, in this awful academic job market, she wrote on fb that she was glad Chauntelle Tibbals appeared not to have a job). The things I have seen her write online about us are truly mean. I can't believe she still has a job.

Can you name me an objective documentary about porn that isn't paid by the porn lobby nor the feminists that give a fair image about pornography?
