I would hesitate to go that far. I find it hard to imagine that all people who like rough porn are sociopaths, since there are A LOT of people who like rough porn, but "According to DSM-IV, Antisocial Personality disorder (sociopathy) is diagnosed in approximately 3% of all males and 1% of all females". Now, of course, one could argue that the number of people who actually have it is higher, and only 3% of males and 1% of females are diagnosed, but the numbers would still be low. I imagine that the percentages of people who enjoy rough porn would be significantly higher than that. I don't know for sure of course, but I'd imagine so, anyway. Because if the rough stuff really did only appeal to 3% (or so) of the male population, there just wouldn't be the market for all the rough porn that's out there on the market. Think about all the men that are buying it, all the men that are stealing (downloading) it, and all the men who would probably like it but just aren't aware of it/haven't been exposed to it - that's a lot of men. Surely more than 3%.

I would indeed make that argument, especially since those numbers are from 1994. People who lack a conscience would be very unlikely to seek help by their own choice. Even people who don't might avoid counseling; it can be expensive, and there are plenty of reasons why people might want to stay away from it. Anyway, my major problem with roughness only applies to rough anal sex (rough oral and rough vaginal are much less likely to cause harm). It's difficult to determine whether the prevalence of that harmful activity in particular is due to ignorance, sadism/masochism, misogyny, antisocial/dissocial personality disorder, or all of those. Regardless, ignorance is certainly a major problem, and based upon my own observations, the others are on the rise.
It might be worth noting that mental health professionals used to consider homosexuality to be a mental disorder. And they held onto that belief until they could no longer justify it. S&M is very prevalent and by calling it a mental disorder, you are insulting a large number of people who have healthy, happy relationships. Gay men also have a strong tendency to have anal intercourse and homosexuality is not considered to be a mental disorder simply because the bottom may (probably will) eventually have anorectal issues and problems resulting from a lifetime of anal sex. The bottom line here is that it really doesn't matter how careful you are. Repeated anal sex can cause problems later in life. If a person knows this and chooses to do it any way, it's no different than eating a hamburger for lunch every day.
