For those of you who still enjoy the sexy softcore movies & series on Cinemax, Playboy TV or Pay-per-View, what's your opinion on the onslaught of porn stars now dominating the softcore market ?

I remember the 1st time I saw Dru Berrymore in a Lombard production, I remember thinking "Cool ! Smart girls are branching out !". Then Chloe, Wendy Divine, Ava Vincent began to pop in more regularly, to the point where now most softcore series & movies have porn stars as lead AND supporting roles, and porn studs now start appearing too.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm happy that porn cuties find an alternative venue where they're not obligated to do 12 enemas a month, and some of them can act better than former softcore divas like Kim Yates or Lisa Boyle. And there's no comparing the level of raunchiness now featured on "Sex Games Vegas" than 5 years ago on "Beverly Hills Bordello" , for example. But doesn't all sense of mystery totally fade when you see August have simulated sex with Randy Spears in "Illicit Passions" (imaginary title ) when you've seen them doing it for real in so many Wicked movies ?

It just goes to show that there is more than enough acting talent within the porn industry to handle credible set-ups and scenes beyond the mere bare-bones sex itself.

Production values... imagine that.

Hmmm. Production values = money. That would seem to suggest that there's more money to be made in softcore than in hardcore? Imagine that.

Well, I owe a certain debt of gratitude to pornstars moonlighting in softcore because it is how I "discovered" TSC. However, when Taylor was doing it from around '95 to '97 it wasn't really all that common, plus at that point she was really just a part time porn star. Now that Robert Lombard has all sorts of porn stars working in softcore, it has kind of lost its novelty. On top of that, I now find it a tad distracting. How can you watch Evan Stone working a scene with hot softcore star Beverly Lynne and not hope against hope that hardcore is in the cards for Bev?

I think my main regret is that what we gain in realism with pornstars in erotica, we lose in novelty. I'd like to see more web models for example, even if it means less raunchiness. I know Robert Lombard loves to work with XXX stars because they have no hang-ups or list of don'ts, but still... It would be nice to have an alternative. I think Playboy is doing a great job with their "7 Lives Exposed" cast, which is always a mix of lesser-known pornbies, unknown models & aspiring actors. I certainly don't notice a loss in heat & explicitness. Quite the opposite.

Really? Good for her. There are usually some prolific softcore stars that I enjoy. A while ago it was Kira Reed and Gabriella Hall. Recently, it has been Beverly Lynn.

Also, I agree with your view on the pornstars in softcore issue.

It is a good thing. The softcore stuff has a vibe that is hard to find in hardcore. This vibe does not depend on the nonexistance of more explict work featuring the performers in question. In the past there may have been reasons not to use hardcore performers, but now these reasons do not hold up now. The performers with a hard core background are at least equal to those without in key areas like physical attractiveness, acting ability, and screen presence. It is a comfort to know that more explict work by these performers is availible if needed. The softcore productions likely benifit from having performers working well within their boundries rather than near said boundries. What would be nice is if some hardcore production could be infused with the softcore vibe. Some feel that the softcore vibe is a direct result of the lack of actual sexual contact and/or explict detail, while others belive that the increasing explicitness in modern sofcore will eventually desolve the boundry. I realize that others seek out softcore materials to avoid explict detail, or to see performers who do not perform in explict work; for such individuals the current trend is no doubt quite unfortunate.

A logical fallicy. Soft core may have a larger potential upside, but also a larger potential downside and more barriers to overcome. Demand for softcore production is down in resent years. Established producers have decreased their output. Profitable softcore almost requires good cable deals and wide acceptance into "mainstream" video stores. There is proably 50-100 times as much hardcore content produced as softcore, and it thus likely more money is too be made on hardcore. Certain softcore producers do well, but how easy would it be to enter their ranks? Would it be worth ther effort considering an uncertain future?
