I'm not too sure about the transition from DVD to digital being so easy or so fast. Before it's been a transfer from one medium to a newer: Records > 8-tracks > cassettes > CD's Films > VHS > DVD but now with music and movies we're moving from a format that costs $20 or less on a machine that costs $50 or less to a format that costs the same (for the consumer), but the machines cost a lot more. You have to have a computer and internet access to get digital music and movies, and that costs a whole lot more than a boombox. People are going to have to age out for this transition to be complete. As long as old people (and poor people)are around who don't have computers or internet as a common home appliance, there will need to be physical media on which they can buy their music and movies. Besides, CDs still account for 73.5% of music sales even after a decade of being able to download music. This transition will be sloooow.
Everything you have posted is correct and your analysis is impeccable as far as it goes, but one major distinction between music and porn is that while folks might appreciate the tangible nature of a CD, porn is usually just a means to an end, if you catch my drift. There are plenty of exceptions to this general rule, and I have read a number of your posts and am confident that you have of solid appreciation of how the market works is specific instances, while I am addressing the issue in broad, general terms.
