I have two of VCA movies, and while they are not my cup of tea, they do push the boundaries of technology in porno.

Really making a Hollywood style film for porn.

I would say that there is nothing wrong about his style, he is very artistic, is all. He is a couples film director, not a raincoater. So that could be the problem here.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Kovi is not a Woodman wannabe. If anything you just have something against PRIVATE, which I don't understand. PRIVATE is the best studio releasing dvds. And if you like Vivid (the worst studio the world!) and Wicked...well then I guess you shouldn't be commenting on PRIVATE.

71 movies isn't really that much, thats how many PRIVATE Gold movies I have, which doesn't count all the rest of PRIVATE I have. Anyways I am glad you agree that Vivid sucks because they really do. I really think PRIVATE is going in the right direction and they aren't getting couple friendly.

On (some of) Private's directors: I only buy their stuff on DVD. there's so much back-catalogue being released there's no reason for me to worry about their VHS new releases anymore.

On Ninn - I haven't noticed anything new getting released from Tanya Hyde in some time now, IMO Ninn is basically a male version of Hyde, stylistically at least, though Ninn at least shows sex in a more.. sexual way than Hyde did.

On Kovi - Kovi hasn't so far really impressed me. Kovi seems to be the one producing the most workmanlike stuff of Private's productions, which is still better than most US stuff, but that's largely due to budget and cast I think.

Woodman - Woody has for me, as well for many others defined Private's style until now. If he leaves, that will leave me with a pile of his stuff that I've already bought, when they are everntually all released on dvd, as well as more money in my pockets. If his going to Hustler has the same quality in production and cast, I might buy some of those. No biggie.

Adamo - I like his style actually. I think a studio having some stylistic variation in directors is a good thing. Which is actually Kovi's weakest point. I like a bit of high-gloss porn, where you can still see what's going on.

Millerman - I enjoyed his work overall too. Never watched Uranus, which copped a lot of criticism, but I liked the Amanda's stuff a great deal. Is he even still there?

Thring - mostly good, but can have some real misses. Especially when he decides to shag the talent on camera. I liked much of the original Pirate Video Production series, but not all of it.

You really got the directors down pat. I would agree with you about Kovi. He is a great director, and it makes some really great lesbian scenes. Kovi has directed most of Michelle Wild's movies, and he has done a great job.

His stuff under the other lines is less "hard" than Woodman, as in less of the multiple-guys-one girl action yet not as "soft" as Millerman or glossy as Ninn/Adamo stuff, which is why I call it "workmanlike" - aka take a standard US feature, and just make it miles better in production and talent (and budget) and that's what you get.

The problem I have with his Pirate stuff is that while the action is generally very hot, there's too much Baggage attatched to it. The opening scene in Splendor of Hell for example is really hot, great sex and well-shot.

Unfortunately there are hunks of cow all over the place. The same applies to much of the outlandish make-up in the same film, and the whole thing with water and fire all over the place. If he just had that cast shagging, without the silly makeup, but with the outfits Michelle Wild and Monique Covet were wearing (and no half-a-dead-cow draped over any of the performers) it would have been an absolutely awesome dvd.

All I can say is thanks to Private for the sampler. From the Adamo scene on it, I'd have to say I wouldn't like his work if that is a valid sample. Slow-mo just doesn't do it for me. Like that time Scully directed an episode of the X-files and just about the entire thing was slow-mo.

To me, Private has always meant: beautiful women (w/ fewer tattoos, piercings than other labels), group sex, good video quality (though some of the compilations really suck in thie regard).

I never really noticed that about Kovi. I really do think Kovi is a really great director; who doesn't overlap his scenes with dumb music. The one thing I wish he would do more of is lesbian scenes. Usually he only has one in a movie. All of his movies are keepers for me. I just loved Brides & Bitches.

To add my 2 cents: With the exception of the MATADOR series Private is predominantly for couples.
My girlfriend loves private (esp. Kovi films), BUT being a 'RAINCOATER' I find Private to be TOO soft.

P.Woodman was good but not great (I don't remember any double anal or good use of toys in his films).
The Superfuckers series was ok, but the use of condoms really put me off.

The best (PRIVATE) director for real hardcore porn has to be J.Y.LeCastel.

You are correct this is a "I Love PRIVATE" topic, and I do love them. Especially now that about 10-15 dvds get released a month. I will also agree the J.Y. LeCastel is amoung the best directors, but I do feel Kovi brings out the best in hot chicks such as Michelle Wild & Rita Faltoyano. I guess that's why there is over 50 studios putting out dvds, because everyone has a taste.

Actually, now that you mention it, I did just finish my degree in video production.. .. but no, Private has it down pat technically, they just need someone to whack their directors with a stick whenever they start to get too pretentious in their films or do something that -I- won't like watching..

As for Adamo, I don't have sampler 3 yet, but it does sound like Adamo's style. While I would not want all my smut to be in this style, I do enjoy a bit of it being that way. That's why I'm wary of Ninn. - That Niche (of "arty", high-gloss porn that still has actual SEX happening) has already been filled by Private.

It's probably an "I love Private" topic because the topic itself attracted people who like Private's stuff. People who don't much care don't care enough to post, generally.

I'll readily admit that taken as a whole, Private is my favourite studio by far. If you want to call it "couple's porn", good for you. I always thought of Vivid and Wicked to be closer to that particular mantle, but again, think what you like.

I personally don't enjoy the type of porn created by J.Y.LeCastel, much of the Euro Angels type stuff, or most Anabolic/Diabolic for that matter. I like seeing what the girls look like, I don't need to see INSIDE the girls.

As for Anabolic and Diabolic, I personally find it to generally be technically competent, but cheaply made with ugly settings, and boring. Those studios have a huge fanbase however, so they're obviously doing something right so more power to them and their fans. Not everyone likes the same things, and there's suppliers for pretty much whatever you want to watch out there as Steve K said.

I do have "Slendor of Hell" and I thought it was a good scene. I thought Michelle Wild's scene in it was kick-ass. I do see how you wouldn't like a scene with dead animals in it. I also think alot of Kovi's best work is when Monique & Michelle star in his movies. I do hope Kovi keeps up the excellent work with the Black Label & Pirate Video Deluxe.
