I've recently had a problem with my Yahoo account, that I got 6 months ago so I could join several Yahoo groups. Yesterday, when I went to sign in, after I typed in my username and password, a screen came up saying that my account had been deactivated. I never got an email from Yahoo saying why they did this, and I can't find anything on Yahoo's help site that tells me what to do to get my account reopened. I rarely used my Yahoo email account, and I'm not aware of any suspicious activity with it. Has anyone ever had this problem? Can anyone suggest what to do? Should I just re-register with a different username and password, and rejoin all the groups that I belonged to, or will Yahoo see that I still have the same IP address, and not let me? Help!
Is it possible you were subscribed to an adult group, but you had no age recorded in your yahoo profile? I think Yahoo had a crackdown on that a while back. They were making a move to get under-age people out of the adult groups and may have de-activated some users.
As far as registering a new ID, I have had no problems with that in the past. I have worked my way through about 4 yahoo email addresses now. I change to a new one when the old one becomes well known and starts to get spammed into oblivion. They have never objected to a second registration coming from the same IP address.
Yahoo deactivates a mail account if there is no activity on it for six months. They keep doing it to mine as well. When I try to log back in though they always have given me the option to reactivate the account.
But I only joined one adult Yahoo group; all the rest were for knitting, my other hobby. They were nice groups, too. I wrote to all the moderators of the groups, only one responded, and she said to take up the matter with Yahoo. But I can't find anyplace on Yahoo where it says you can contact them about a deactivated account.
When I get the screen that says my account has been deactivated, it doesn't give me the option to re-activate it. Perhaps they do think I am underage. When I originally registered, I may not have given them my birthdate. I think I'll wait a few days, and try and start up another account with a different username.
Did you try logging into yahoo mail? That's where I always get the reactivation question. I was wrong, it's four months of inactivity.

Flash is correct. If you do not use your account for 4 months then it gets deactivated. If you login to Yahoo Mail then it will ask you in the middle of the screen if you want to reactivate the account.
I checked my yahoo mail about a week ago, and had no problems logging in. I have tried yesterday to log in on it, and it wouldn't let me, and again it didn't ask me if I wanted to re-activate the account. So, this exact problem has never happened to anyone else?
Sorry, no. That exact problem has never happened to me. I get the impression, however, that Yahoo is trying to do a censorship/policing job on their users, but only has a tiny fraction of the staff required to do it properly. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they have simply de-activated you by mistake, but if that is so, I would not have much hope that anyone there would correct the problem for you.
I think your suggestion of simply re-joining with a new id in a few days is probably your best option. It's unfortunate that this means the nuisance of finding and re-joining all of your groups, but that's probably easier than tackling the monolith to get your user name re-activated.
(memo to self - make a backup copy of my "my groups" page in case the same thing happens to me.)

As far as I know, they only deactivate the mail if you don't use it. The account under that name should not be affected.
