There is also currently a rumor that O&A have a no compete clause in their current contract which will prevent them from being on the air in NY until October 1 (June 1 for the rest of the country). Does anyone know how this would work? Is satellite radio like satellite TV where the receiver will pick up the station, but not decode it because I'm in NY or will the signal just not be present in the NY area? If it's the first, I want to try registering with either my sisters or parents address (Atlanta or Charlotte), so I would be eligible to decode this programming.

i love it. i no longer hate long drives. i only have drop outs when i'm in the center of a town between two tallish buildings. keep in mind i live in a rural area so my experience may be different.

for music i mainly listen to lucy, fred, ethyl, xm cafe (all alternative) and the blues and reggae stations, plus deep tracks and unsigned. news stations are good too, though the tv show based ones have commercials. between tivo and xm i have zero tolerance for commercials.

at some point i will get the stereo attachment so i can listen in the house.

the only thing that made me want sirius was npr.

another major plus is that the screen lists the band and the song name. though the display is poorly done in that it doesn't use the whole screen, letters are cut off on the right side.

i wouldn't worry about satellite radio going anywhere. it's easy to get addicted.

I've heard the differences between XM and Sirius described this way:
Sirius tends to play more popular cuts from albums while XM plays more obscure things. I've never listened to XM so I can't say for sure if that's true or not, but I have heard that from a number of different people.

I do remember hearing that Howard Stern had a meeting with the Sirius folks a week or two back. Current thinking is that if he does go to satelite radio, it'd be Sirius, since Clear Channel holds a large percentage of stock from XM, and Howard hates them.
