He was just replying to my comment that the fact that Leisure Time even exitst is a testament to the fact that there are an awful lot of porn viewers out there who really don't care about quality.

Brandon,

Keep up the great work!! You have set the benchmark that folks like EE and Fusxion are trying to catch up to.

Thanks, everyone!
RE: DVD Demon. Yes, I met the people over there and know they do quality work. Not sure if they are in our current price range but it's worth checking out for sure.
I want this stuff to be selling years from now. That, and there is the off chance that a Joey Silvera title and mine may be mixed up and I will get his movie sent out by mistake......yeah! That's what I will call it! A "mistake!"
I hereby rename my next release Brandon Iron's "SERVICE ANIMALS #17."
Enjoy!

Ya know, I don't recall ever seeing these same picture problems in any of Jewels releases at PXP (or Mason's which has already been pointed out). So it seems pretty simple what you guys need to do - get together and discuss what is being done differently.

That said, I think the picture quality has been pretty decent and some just seem to be making a mountain out of a mole hill, especially when comments are made that Plat X has some of the worst tech merits - complete nonsense. But there is room for improvement so I hope you guys figure out what's going on.

Jewel's DVD's also have the problem!! To be honest Brandon, you should use DVDDemon despite the cost. That's one of the reasons you may be having problems, i.e trying to cut costs. Doing that always is never a good idea!

Thanks..but I think Wile has a hard-on for chasing that roadrunner! Okay, now first I want to say that there is a reason why I mainly own PXP stuff and that is the determination, quality, and constant improvments to their product. I cannot believe that Brandon has been so interested in this thread and topic. When I do reviews I play the dvd's on my little plasma and write the review. Up until I first heard about this halo thing I couldn't understand what was going on, I mean every review I put out states that PXP is fantastic. Well for the most part they are. So today I watched a few dvd's on my 50 inch DLP, Lipstick, Baker's, Teens Revealed 3, and Nuts, Buts Euro Sluts and saw the halo's. Now I have several more PXP's coming to my house that I ordered so I will check them out as well. The only times I really saw them were around dark images and they were usually un-noticeable.

However if you know what to look for you will see it. But thankfully because of all the "curves and bouncing booty" my eye doesn't wander around the screen! I'm not an expert on encoding and all that other stuff and I don't pretend to be, so I can sympathise with Brandon on being in the "not so bright on all this jazz" video stuff. I do however hope this problem gets fixed soon and perhaps the releases that have the problem will be re-realesed? At any rate the quality of the dvd's that PXP produces are wonderful, even better than EE which I think is a little grainy.

So Brandon even though there is a little "halo" thing going on I will still be watching your product and giving them great reviews (unless the sex sucks) so you don't have to worry about this consumer. Not to mention your (Jewel's, Michael Stefano's) dedication to your fans and viewers. I mean even high budget films like the Matrix has flaws, even my favorite movie Braveheart has flaws, does that mean I'm going to not watch them? Hell fucking no! I just hope that this problem gets fixed soon, but even if it takes a few months at least the problem isn't so bad that it effects the sex.

P.S. I loved I love it Rough 3 and can't wait till the next one!

For me the idea of having porn on DVD is so it can be as real as possible. With all the blur and halo's I can't seen the tiny hairs or inperfections in the skin like I can on say Evil Angel DVD's.

If you put a PlatinumX DVD next to a ZT DVD you'll see the PLX looks totally crap.

Get a new TV Sanchez! I don't see anything
more or less wrong with PXP DVDs than any
of the other DVDs from the other video
companies.

Have you tried playing the DVDs
on your puter's DVD-ROM?

I stopped renting or buying PXP except for Mason's movies. Her stuff seems to not have the halo and bad picture quality problems. The rest of their stuff looks like shit.

The problem is apparent on my $28,000 Home Cinema installation, my Panasonic 50" High Definition Plasma TV coupled with a Pioneer 868 DVD-Player and my PC's DVD-ROM drive with 19" LCD display. I've also tried it on my bedrooms Widescreen Direct View TV!

You should look at the snapshots I and others have provided!

Maybe this will sound a bit trite, but I would encourage anyone who has been disappointed with our product to go elsewhere for your pornographic needs. Porn is not like food or air. It is NOT a basic life necessity.
Having said that, then, I would say that as a consumer I abide by the rule, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Why oh why do some people continue to torture themselves by continually purchasing our product if you know you will not enjoy it???
We value each and every customer. We respond to concerns and complaints. At the end of the day, however, we have to make movies....our movies....with our mistakes. If what we make is not what you enjoy, go elsewhere. PLEASE go elsewhere.
For everyone who is constantly disappointed with our "crap", please move on with your lives and enjoy the flawless pornography that is put out by other studios. I am a fan of Zero Tolerance, just like many of you, but I cannot imagine spending an inordinate amount of my time berating them if I didn't like what they did. I would simply stop supporting them with my wallet. Case closed.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but please put this issue in context. We are trying our best. We are learning and improving as we make our way in this highly-competitive business. So far, we have experienced a modicum of success that has encouraged us to keep going. Reorders are good. Reviews are good (many on this very site). General feedback, for the most part, is good.
It would be nice to focus on what is going right instead of what is going wrong.

Enjoy! (REPEAT.....ENJOY!!!)

Context indeed! When we began marketing M&J as porn (rather than erotic documentary) I got an X-Rent account and started wood-shedding to get up to speed with the modern porn landscape (I haven't watched porn "recreationally" in about 10 years.) Without exception every single disc we got had defects in production, post-production, authoring, or replication that simply wouldn't be tolerated outside the world of porn. These weren't "brand X" titles either; these were titles from some of the biggest names in the business

I haven't seen what's being complained about in these PXP titles (which makes trying to offer technical help next to useless) but I can't believe that whatever it is that got some folks riled is any worse than what I saw while watching these discs.

But don't get me wrong; I've no patience at all for "It's just porn." Beautiful women showing us everything they've got deserve nothing less than the best we can do. (Okay, the guys deserve a little too.)

I don't understand this attitude. Why do you feel that you have to make movies with mistakes? How do you reconcile valuing your customers with putting out DVD's that you know have some kind of technical problem?

This thread is almost two months old. I'm no multimedia expert, but it seems to me that if the guy who does your DVD work can't figure out what the problem is in two months, then you need to get a new DVD guy.

Harri:
Thank you for your input to this never-ending discussion.

How do you reconcile valuing your customers with putting out DVD's that you know have some kind of technical problem?
-- It is very simple. To date, I have NEVER seen this problem occur on any TV or computer screen. Yes, I have witnessed the screen caps posted and I have passed them on to the DVD author for correction. Much time has been spent chasing this down. My point is that I still have to make my movies. So does every other director at Platinum X Pictures. I am satisfied with what I see as a finished product. So is every other director who proofs his or her work. It is only after the fact that we are told that our DVDs are crap. It is simply not the case and if given a choice between making movies or nursing this issue like a baby that will not stop crying, I will chose the former.
We really do want to make all our customers happy and will continue to make adjustments to our shooting, editing, and authoring processes.
You say that this thread is 2 months old now. You should try to realize that I have already turned in my masters for my June release. 2 months is a very short time in production terms.
I have a feeling that this will not be anything approaching the end of this. All I can say is that dissatisfied customers should move on. We wish them well and hope to win back their business. There is no need to spend as much time criticizing our movies as we do in making them.

Thanks,
Brandon

I agree with Brandon's point completely. I, for one, have not purchased any PXP DVD's in the last 2 months due to the video issue.

If you're one who wants high quality videos, please exercise your puchasing power. PXP does not have a monopoly on grade "A" vids nor talent. Simple economics will dictate if PXP will fix this "problem".

On another thread where this was brought up, I mentioned I had never experienced the Ghost problem, and that is still 100% true on my equipment. I mentioned also that I loaned Fresh New Faces 1 and Spit Shined out to a friend of mine, and she had said she experienced the problems on her equipment. I said I was going over there and I would report back, and thought this a more proper thread to address it in.

I went over there today and spent the better part of the day setting up her new TV setup and the like. After which on her old setup she showed me the ghost problem. Now this is the first time I have seen it, and I can understand the complaints, but it would not stop me from buying any titles. I have seen far more aggrevating problems on many top name companies products but whatever.

The interesting thing to me, was that we started experimenting with different setups to see if it made any difference, and we actually did find a difference. When the player was hooked up with just RCA patch cords, the problem was there, but when we took the S Video cable and tried it that way, the ghosts where gone and the picture was perfect.

This would seem to be a complete seperation of what would logically make sense here, as if anything, it should be the other way around, it should be visible on S video but not on RCA. This is not my area of knowlegdge, I just sharing my witnessed scenario.

I don't know if others have experienced similar situations to this, but it was rather odd to me. Both discs we had the same results on. I don't know if this helps at all, but I just thought I would share. No problems at all on her new setup. Anyone else experienced anything like that?

I could not be happier with PXP myself, and would continue buying thier product even if I did experience that problem. I hope for people that are experiencing it, the situation can be fixed, but I think we should be glad there is an effort to fix it and people are listening, instead of just passing it off.

I had a much worse problem with many titles from 2 other very well known porn studios, many others experienced the problem too, and when I tried to politely address the situation with them, they bascially told me to go fuck myself, so I am very pleased to see an effort to fix it. It has been said several times that it seems to be a bit of a mystery, so chill out and give it some time.

Brandon, the reason people like myself are complaining is because we love PlatinumX movies so much. I just want to have my favourite movies in decent picture and sound! I never said you don't care about the problem..your probably screwing about it all the time in your mind! However, I get the impression your simply going by whatever your DVD producer tells you. For all you know, he could know what he did wrong and not want to admit it, therefore you'll see the issue disappear on your newer DVD's!

I still think you should get a second opinion..for fucks sake even I can master better Home movie DVD's than what I see on PlatinumX DVD's. My friends wedding was filmed by me and was mastered to DVD's and it looks flawless! I aint no expert! Your obviously a nice guy, and maybe don't want to vent your anger at your DVD producer? But sometimes that’s needed, you need to give him some motivation to work out the cause of the problem. Tell him: If this isn't sorted soon, I'm going to have to go elsewhere! Do you really think he goes home at night worrying about how to fix it?

Anyway, for those people who go on “GET A NEW TV”. Well I gotta say I'm not into buying crap equipment. The fact of the matter is a high end DVD player and display will show up the problem more. The high end equipment I and other people buy are designed to bring the most out of a DVD. If a DVD is of low quality all the player can do is bring out all the technical flaws! A low end piece of equipment (I’m talking sub $400 players), connected to a TV by composite will look shit, no matter what DVD you feed it...good or bad! So how can those people tell the difference?

Get my drift? Again, my apologies to Brandon, who seems to be the only PLX guy who seems to care!

Sanchez, you seem to be implying that for the most part, people that don't see the problem either have in your estimation shit equipment or don't have a good enough sense of picture quality to be bothered by it. If that is not the jist of your feelings I apologize, but that is how it appears to me.

This is simply not the case, as I wrote above my friend is using lesser equipment, but it is still not shit. The point, is that I had to go to see that lesser equipment to event notice the problem, so it is not simply a matter of if you have better equipment and have the eye you will notice it.

I am using HDMI technology in my home theater too, and have spent fair amount on my home theater, and I have never experienced the problem. And it aint my fuckin eyes either. Also, Zero Tolerance does not have far superior picture quality to PXP, not by a long shot. ZT can be downright fuzzy at times, far better than VHS, but some of thier titles have a bit of a grain to them, while when the Ghosting is not present on PXP titles, which they have always been on my setup, thier overall picture quality is quite clear.

It's the same people bitching over & over again.

No complaints here!

I've watched them on different TVs, DVD players,
& DVD-ROMs for the PC & haven't had any technical
probs with PXP DVDs.

Matter of fact PXP DVDs are clearer than most of the
other DVDs I own or have seen from the other studios.

I agree 100% with you on this one Syber. I have nearly half of all of the PXP titles released so far in thier existence, and I have had not one single technical glitch or complaint with any of them. Of my very extensive 20+ years of buying porn seriously, only Evil Angel has had that kind of success rate with me, so I guess I just needed to defend PXP a little.

Some are worse than others. If you think Full Anal Access 2 doesn't have a problem then you seriously need to check your eyes! Others have the problem to a lesser degree and yes in some cases you have to look very hard to see it!

The reason why ZT video's are more fuzzy is because some are shot in progressive rather than Interlaced. Interlaced gives a clearer look! The only good progressive cameras out there are Panavision lenses (used by hollywood).

If your using HDMI fair enough, but maybe your not as fussy about Flesh tones being perfect as I am. The fact of the matter is the problem IS there and it NEEDS to be rectified! Nobody seems to comment on the screenshots provided by myself and others...if you can't then your just being ignorant to the issue!

Sanchez, I am not saying some people are not experiencing problems, as I am certain they are. I can clearly see issues with the screenshots you posted, and as I explained experienced with my friend yesterday. My problem is that people are implying that because they see it, everyone else must be fucking blind. That is not the case, it is not evident on every single scenario. That is what I was referring to.

No there is no issue whatso ever on my setup with Full Anal Access 2, I have 2 copies, one new, and one, I believe the very same copy that M.B. is saying gave him fits, as I bought it from him. I know exactly what the problem looks like as I have seen pictures and now seen it first hand, and there is no fucking way it is aparent on any of my players or TV's. I don't need my eyes checked.

I do not blame any of you that are having problems from stating the fact and trying to get some resolution, but the fact is some of you are being completely anal and unreasonable about anything. Some of you seem to think there is no fucking way that everyone is not having this problem and they just can't see it. Get a fucking life, why would Brandon or anyone lie about it, he could easily ignore the situation, but no, he is taking some pretty fucked up comments from some of you, and trying to be polite and get a solution.

Have some respect for that, and realize it is obviously not detectable on every system, and that said, it aparently is very hard to get to the bottom of, take some heart knowing that they give a shit enough to be digging into it and will probably find the solution in time. I just don't see the need to assume everyone is fucking stupid or something, because they don't see what is not there. That kind of attitude will not help the situation or find a fix.

I never once said Brandon was lying about it. I, However did (if you read correctly) say that his producer may be lying to him!

Btw, can you please post your DVD-Player, display and method of connecting!

You know what I fucking give up. Face/Off on some DVD Players has shit loads of grain, and on some it doesn't! You may say the same people are bitching over and over, but then again its the same people defending over and over! Just cause you can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist! So far i've resorted to keeping it in this thread and maybe have bitched about in the main forum.

I do own many PlatinumX DVD's, does it really take me to review all my DVD's and rate PlatinumX 1/5 for picture on the site? At the end of the day, that is how I think of it and reviews are subject to a persons opinion!

I have to back Brandon up on this.
When we finally realized (in HUGE part to a kick in the ass from Ingenmann) that we needed to take some steps we could do to improve the picture on Rocco's movies, it took 2 or 3 more releases of already shot-already edited movies before we saw the results of the fix on a DVD.

Brandon - I commend you for sticking with this. Look at ALL possibilities in this. You worked with me at Evil Angel DVD for awhile, long enough to see that EA has problems too now and then, and they just need to get worked through with commitment.

Oh, and get Final Cut Pro 4 already.

Good luck with this,
Tricia

btw, the recent pioneers, it looks like yours is included, used some proprietary stuff that had major problems with artifacting. i see the top pioneer elite is now using the gemini chip(farouja, i can't spell it)

sanchez,
you've obviously reached a point where you're looking for mastering flaws too closely to really enjoy what you're watching. once you figure out what's wrong with what you're watching or hearing and you've finally can't blame any part of your chain of equipment, it's going to drive you nuts--take a break from the stuff, go to circuit city and watch their stuff for an hour---that's what most people are watching.

it could be worse, most cds put out in the last 5 years are squashed, meaning they clip, have no dynamic range, and are made to be as loud as possible. and it's done on purpose by competent people with histories of mastering good stuff, but nobody wants their disc to be at a lower volume than the previous one in a changer, and pretty much all car audio sucks. so i finally put together the best 2 channel setup i can afford(linn>krell>dynaudio bookshelves) and listening to music stops being fun now that i'm actively looking for faults. i decided to deal with it instead of sell the stuff. sounds like you might be in the same boat.

Hi everyone!

"...progressive rather than Interlaced..."
"...If your using HDMI..."

What language are you guys speaking!!?? The real source of this problem is my ignorance because I don't have a clue what all these Dr. Seuss-sounding things are. I KNEW I should have paid more attention at Evil Angel, Tricia! Damn, it, you HAD to leave all those DVD inserts, boxes, newsletters, and BUTTMAN magazines lying around to distract me.
The bottom line, as John Stagliano calls it, is that directors should direct, DVD authors should author, and consumers should consume...up to the point that they are satisfied. Some of you are not satisfied. For that, I am truly sorry.
Just take a break from our product. Give us a chance to get better. Down the road we will meet up again, kiss, and make up/out depending on how much we like each other.
(Flipping through the Yellow Pages looking for "DVDemon" -- Evil Angel's top-notch author) "Let's see, now....(818)555-5555."
(Phone ringing).

Thanks,
Brandon

All I'm looking for is decent picture quality and colour. A ton of extras are not important to me. Just give me the movie with good picture quality, sharpness and colour and I'm happy. I don't see that from PXP. Hopefully they can get the problem fixed.
I don't actively look for this sort of thing. I watch quite a bit of porn, at least one disc every couple days. And once in a while a glaring picture quality problem will pop up, it doesn't happen very often but it does happen. I could instantly tell there was something wrong from the very start of Full Anal Access #2. I then rented the VHS to compare, the sharpness I couldn't compare obviously because it was two different formats, but the colour I could compare and it was extremely dull and lifeless just like the dvd, no colour whatsoever.
I think PXP shoots good porn, but I'd like to see them couple it with watchable discs that I could justify spending money on, right now I can't say that I have the confidence to spend money on a disc of theirs I haven't yet seen (except for Mason's) for some reason her stuff seems to avoid these problems, especially with colour.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) - Is a digital cable that carry's a signal from a DVD-Player to display with 0% loss. This is because there is no Digital to Analogue or Digital-Analogue-Digtial (for plasmas) conversion.

Interlaced - How your TV draws the picture. Every odd-line is drawn, 1,3,5 etc, followed by every even line 2,4,6 etc! Was originally used to get rid of the flicker effect on TV's.

Progressive - Draws all the lines in one go. Gives in an improved picture as you see all the lines at once...usually around 40% better than Interlaced! PC monitors, Plasmas etc do this when connected via component video or HDMI! Since newer displays show more fields a second, there is no flicker problem.

In cameras the CCD finds it harder to do progressive, so unless you have an ultra high spec camera (Panavision) you'll get a fussyish picture compared to an Interlaced camera! Progressive is also known to look more film like instead of Home video like (ok for features but i prefer Interlaced for Gonzo).

Well from my last post when I said that the picture was fine, I still stand by that. So there's a little problem, who cares, the sex is good and that is why "most" people watch porn. If you want to see crystal picture then you won't find it in porn land and should move on. Simple. PXP will get this figured out and even if they don't as long as the quality is there then I'll be down with their product!

I'm sure they'll get things figured out since they've got the interest to learn. In the meantime, I've been happy with their stuff and I'm happy to give them my money for wanting to improve. even if it takes a few months and releases, the jessica hiring is the only good news i've heard in a month.

sanchez, are you using auto1 or the purecinema on out of curiousity?
i keep reading the recent pioneers being sub-optimal in anything but auto2. you probably know this already, but every review dumping on the playback at anything but auto2 with the same haloing made me curious.

i've been in the market for a dvd player, my refurbished kenwood 5700 was refurbished for a reason, but it's hard to justify paying too much for one, since in three years, even a meridian ain't gonna be current.
plus, the usual mid-fi suspects are spread too thin(denon, harman, onkyo) or just kinda suck---some marantzes are oem pioneers(with the cue problems), does anyone have experience with the rotels or adcoms or love what they have? i'd rather keep it under 1000, i'm not interested in using it as a dac, sacd, hdcd if that helps.

At the moment, both my Plasma and Projector are powered by my two Pioneer 868i. I use Auto2 mostly but some discs i change it around, depending on if its Interlaced porn or NTSCfilm.

The problem is not that titles being released two months after the color error was reported still have the it. The problem is that in these two months, nobody has discovered what is causing the color error. Therefore, the color error will continue to exist in titles being released two months from now (4 months from when the problem was reported), assuming that the cause of this error is found shortly.

Bill: Like I say, dissatified customers should absolutely, positively avoid our product if they even suspect they will be disappointed.
There are many other fine companies out there.
We are working on it.
It is common knowledge that more titles are in the loop that will have the same effect. Concerned viewers should save themselves the heartache. Really.
If they don't, we both risk endless back-and-forths on this well-worn thread.
There is a problem. We are doing our best. The overwhelming majority of our customers enjoy our product and the overwhelming majority of reviewers say the video quality is good.
Can we please give this one a rest for now?
Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon are saying you would like this thread locked? Everything has pretty much been covered here. I haven't noticed anything different on the PXP I have bought so this much affect only a certain few for whatever reason.

Everyone has been heard loud and clear. We can lock this, please. Thanks for the input, everyone. Give us some time, please, then come back if you wish.
Thanks! We look forward to your future support.

Brandon, if it's any consolation PXP are not alone in having this problem.

I've just watched Space Nuts from Wicked and it has the same halo/misaligned colours problem.
In fact it is way more visible than in Baker's Dozen. This may be due to the use of strong colours on the sci-fi sets.

I find this to be much more of a disappointment considering the time, effort and money that must have gone in to Space Nuts' post production.
To have it marred by shite authoring (if that really is the problem) bites.

I was actually starting to consider that my DVD player (and also my DVD-ROM) might be the problem, but then I read astroknight's review.
He mentions having problems as well and his screenshots shown the problem clearly.

Nietzsche: Sorry, I overreacted! I just held my breath while on an empty stomach and I still had to masturbate to a photo of Teagan that was laying around.
My lack of oxygen has made me type stupid things....sorry.

Brandon,
I haven't locked the thread, figuring that it would die out on its own and then when you have the problem taken care of, you could post it here.

However, if you keep bringing to the top of the forum with posts like this, it will never die.

Bill: You're right. Let's do this. Let's lock this one, please, then start a brand, spanking new one when things are to everyone's satisfaction. It won't be next week, but hopefully it won't be too many more months down the road.
Thanks!

When you have the problem resolved, e-mail me and I'll open this one back up so you can put the resolution in here, where it belongs.

Thank you for reopening the Tech Talk thread again.

I really don’t understand why you let an industry insider like Brandon Iron have any influence on the closing of the thread in the first place, as long as no forum etiquette has been violated. I think it is great that Brandon is participating, but I don’t think an industry insider should have any influence on the moderation of ADT.

Please check your mail, Bill. I need your help on a image folder issue.

You're right. I went against my better judgement when I initially locked it (at least I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong and fix my error ).
I haven't received anything (it's not in my spam folder either). Please send it again. If you're talking about an image folder issue with the space that Steph provided you for the images that you have posted here, you'd be much better off contacting Steph or Drew (that's what my e-mail reply to you would have been also).

Bill:
You said in another thread:
"To me, PXP has joined Leisure Time, Simon Wolf and a few others as companies from whom I will not purchase product from. Some of these companies I avoid because of quality and some because of the person who runs it. In PXP's case, it's both."

I assume, then, that in the interests of being fair, you will start similar threads on other companies with in-depth examinations of their quality issues. Like you, I watch my share of porn and I would love to contribute my informed opinions. That's one advantage of being an "industry insider."

Thanks,
Brandon
