They also ran the theatre right next to it: And as you can tell, the Market Street Cinema was right next to that theatre. It also was a porn theatre at one time. And on top of that, the Electric was across the street. Four porn theatres in the same area. Where else have you seen that? However, the Market Street Cinema eventually became a strip club, which it remains to this day. The Electric is also now a strip club, called Crazy Horse I believe. The Pussycat and the Centre closed in the late 80s. [Link]

I've been running around NYC and taking photos of what's there now / what's left for a couple of years now... (and then touching them up and putting them on my blog when I get a chance). It's amazing to ponder just how much has been lost (and is still being lost). If you google "Jeremiah's Vanishing New York", the guy who runs that blog has detailed a lot of what's been / being taken down. He focuses on the City as a whole, but there are plenty of adult-related posts (i.e. The Show World Center, Peep World, The Playpen, etc.) Also... the Guns N' Roses video "The Garden" (on youtube) has a lot of footage of older adult-NYC stuff. It's pretty cool. As a note -- just a couple of weeks ago, I went to what's left of the Show World Center (most of it is now the Laugh Factory). You can still get their peep booth tokens out of the machine (they're the old ones), and there are still video peeps and stairwells that can be explored. While it's a shadow of what it apparently was (before my time...), it's still fascinating to think about what the walls would say if they could speak... If you're interested, there's a decent amount of info on the NYC porn scene (including the Show World Center) in Legs McNeil's book, "The Other Hollywood"... great book on the history of X. [Link]

Even so, at this point even the most obscure grinder has left some kind of trace on the interwebs, and they produced far fewer films back then than now, so I doubt that all three films could be authentically lost films. Maybe John can puzzle this out, he knows this stuff very well. [Link]

His stories of cruising the straight porn theatres for gay sex are crazy and fascinating but he also says the dangers of the area were exaggerated (until crack and AIDS put a stop it it all). [Link]

I'm starting to think they were not the titles of the movies they showed, but I'm still sure the theatre showed cheaply-made third-rate productions. [Link]
