nietzsche Deactivated User 5470 Posts 8/03	Posted - Jan 6 2006 : 9:02PM I dl avi videos (legally of course) and the video has lines on it. You can only see the vague outline of the video. I assume this is a codex problem. My problem is that I don't really know much about them. If you have a problem, how do you know which codex you need? Is it true if you have too many codexes it can screw up your player? Are codexes specific to the player or are they independent of it? [Link]

jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04	Posted - Jan 12 2006 : 4:42PM you really only need ffdshow http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow real alternative, quicktime alternative and media player classic, all of which are available at http://www.free-codecs.com/ or doom9 yeah, filters can interfere with each other. if you don't have any problems, i wouldn't worry about it. it's codecs, neetch. codecs. For some dumb reason, it's called GSpot. GSpot It let's you know which codec was used for both the audio and video. If the file is corrupted it let's you know that too. I use it and it comes in handy. [Link]
