I've been thinking about copying all the nice 30second clips from my bad DVDs before getting rid of them. So I'm looking for a software that easily lets me rip a certain part, or parts, from a DVD and add them to a layout for later burning. I can't find any way to do this with my currently installed software (pretty new PC, just all the crappy windows stuff, guess they don't want people to rip DVDs easily...).

I'd like it to be pretty much like a simple software DVD-player but with a record button, not like a complex video editor because I don't need any of that right now.
Oh, and I'd prefer if it's free, but a 30 day fully functional trial version or something would probably do the job.
Any suggestions?

Sorry. The copying of DVD's is an off-limits topic at ADT.
