Last year I spent about ten months in the valley, trying to "break in" as male talent. Funny as that seems now. And naive too. But not my point. Getting representation via an adult agency seemed to be a big goal amongst the younger, better looking/endowed "mopes". I always wondered why the agencies even bother to represent "male talent". I imagine that the agencies are paid a percentage of whatever the talent is payed, and with the much lesser pay rates for men, why would representing them even be worth bothering with?
Does anyone know how much promotion Agents really do, or is that pretty much up to the talent themselves? Also it seems many girls are listed as available through several different agencies, which seems like it would be prohibited. You don't see that with non-nude modeling. If competing agencies found out you were working for the other, you'd be shit canned in an instant. But I can remember people telling me I should get an agent, and that I should try to get as many as possible. Which seemed off to me. But then again, I ended up leaving because I was unable to support myself. (Not that surprising in retrospect), LOL.

Well if you are serious about it, you shouldn't give up either, worse comes to worst hire a cameraman and shoot some scenes yourself, just to show what you can do, and start making phone calls and get your name out, get on some freelance modelling sites and put it right out there that your looking to do adult work, also get on some sites like sexyjobs and findadultjobs, because believe me there are a lot of amatuer shooters looking to hire affordable male talent.

Maybe a mod will see fit to move it? I dunno. But as far as Cfox's suggestion, I am shooting amateur content myself now and hoping to get enough money together to get back down South. The "talent pool" is pretty shallow in NW Washington. But that still doesn't answer the question, why would an agency bother with the always lesser paying "male talent"? I'm sure there's something or some things I just don't understand about it.

well , a lot of straight male actors ..if there decent looking will do solo masterbation scenes for playgirl type dvds , or gay solo dvds. so perhaps the agencies profit from there straight men getting hired and paid more than a boy girl scene to do solo masterbation scenes for the gay \ playgirl lover type women. also maybe the agencies do it as a favor to the directors and porn companies, so they have an easier time finding male talent to go with the girls they hire.

That does make sense. I worked for a roofing company that also installed gutters. Now they didn't really profit from the gutter installs, but because that was one less thing for the general contractor to deal with, it made doing business with the company that much more appealling. Sort of one less headache. But it seems like it would be more of a headache than it's worth to the modeling agencies. I really wish an agent or director or even some male talent would dish us "the straight dope" on this one.
