In my Profile I can add a signature, mine is simply "Jacco" at the moment but I see people with multi line signatures and links. Can I add that to the profile or do these people just add it by hand to their posts?
Ok, I found out how to add a link, but it still is just one line.
Are you seeing multi-line signatures on recent posts or older posts? If you're seeing them on recent posts (within the past 3 months or so) then the posters are adding them to their posts manually, not as part of the signature field. I shortened the signature field because it was starting the get abused. When there's 500 charaters of signature for a 10 word post I consider it abusive.
It's cool to have links in signatures. However we don't like to see banners or large images as poster's signatures.
This is also a good time to mention that I'm going to be converting all of the outbound links in the forum to use the same redirect mechanism that most outbound links use on ADT. (This decision was made a while ago and is not a reflection on your post in this thread Jacco.)
We've always asked the shameless self-promoters to link back to ADT if they're posting links to their sites here in the forum. We don't really police or enforce this policy but once in a while we check around. Some folks have honored our requests for reciprocal links and we thank them for it. The fast majority ignore the requests or flat out refuse to link back to ADT. It's these kinds of folks that are cause for the redirect mechanism.
He's not talking about in your profile. He's talking about the bottom of the reply screen. There are two check boxes above the "Post New Reply" button. One says "Check here to include your profile signature." and the other says "Check here to be notified by email whenever anyone replies to this topic."
Yes, you should add that information, I couldn't find it before and then it slipped my mind to ask you. Maybe make a webmaster link or so, with info if you want to link to ADT, would be handy, or a 'link to us' link somewhere in the left column.
