I noticed that when i visited Redlightdistrictvideo.com they have high quality jpegs of their box covers around about 300 kb in size.

I often save covers to my PC so i can remember which ones i want to buy.

I have found if i resave the photo in Micosoft paint as a jpeg it shrinks it to about 60 kb in size.

Why is that? Are the RLD jpegs really bitmaps in disguise?

the JPG file format has a variable compression rate so when you resaved the image in Microsoft Paint it must resample the image at a higher compression rate. when you resave look for a way to change the compression rate.

higher compression rate = poorer image quality.

normal bitmaps have no compression so they should always be larger than JPGs.

Ah....i see.

To be honest i am happy with shrinking them further to save room on my PC.

Also quicker when e mailing photos to friends etc...
