For anyone who read my previous topic I've been trying to get into producing porn and I've actually found a few girls who are open to the idea and have considered it before. I've let most of my friends know that I'm trying to do this, and two of these girls are friends who said they were down for it. 1 I met through a male friend who brought it up to her, and another is a girl I met through these girls. Anyway they had a lot of questions but the big one was how much money could they make with this?
They wanted to know if they could make really good money from it since what I'm getting from them is that entering porn will really inhibit their ability to do anything in the corporate/mainstream world of business and/or entertainment if they go down this path because people won't take them seriously. That isn't getting into friends finding out etc. But like I said these girls are really interested despite all that provided it's worth their while financially.
These are reasonably attractive girls but nothing mind blowing. I'm trying to give them realistic figures of what sort of yearly salary they should be able to pull in doing the stuff they said they would do on screen (vaginal, anal, bj, hj, no more than 2 guys, they don't care what race. None of them are lesbians and I didn't get into asking them questions about non-straight sex acts). Those are the sex acts they agreed to, although one said she wouldn't do anal or more than 1 guy at a time and another girl said she would do all of the things I listed but only with guys she found attractive.
Like I said these girls are pretty cute but nothing special. Around 7.5-8ish attractiveness (think Lexi Belle or Taylor Rain pretty). None have ever done porn before but are comfortable with their sexuality for the most part.
So what kind of money can be made. I know that the Tera Patricks, Stormy Daniel's and Jenna's are multi-millionaires, but what about the rest?
What kind of cash do the Teagan Presley's/Hillary Scotts pull in a year?
More realistically since I don't think any of these girls will become big stars, how do the Lexi Belle's do? The girls that I got are of similar attractiveness levels and seem to be willing to do the same kind of stuff so what kind of number should I give them?
They are going to do their first scenes with me to help me out getting started but afterward at least 2 of them are planning on going to Cali and doing this for big bucks if the money is right.
I bloveate too much, but that's it for the most part. ^_^
In summary, what kind of cash should a hard working porn girl not willing to do anything really extreme expect to make in the business a year, and for how long?

It depends how many scenes they do, what their rate is, etc. These things vary from girl to girl. A regular boy/girl scene with no anal - maybe $800 for a reasonably hot chick. If she's willing to do anal - maybe $1,200. Those numbers might be a little high or a little low. A super-hot new chick willing to do anal might get a lot more.
But the work won't always be there either. Most girls don't last a year, and even the ones that do last longer find demand for their services fading over time.
Of course, they can always do the escorting game as well, and make pretty good money on the side that way. Mixing in feature dancing sometimes works as well.

From just shooting - a good looking gonzo girl that has no limits $100,000 to $300,000, a contract star $50,000 to $125,000.
Most really good gonzo girls can last 1-2 years, a contract girl 4-5 years. There are exceptions to these stats.
These are averages by the way.

Money, money, money.......
US porn is a strange world, if I compare this with the NLs of the 80s and 90s. One of my girlfriends even had to pay the ticket to the porn studio and received almost nothing for the first shooting. The director wanted girls who enjoyed sex, not money.
But after the second shooting, he paid a little better. I think for the money she earned in one month, an US porn girl wouldnt undress her left shoe.

@plandr: Honestly, if I would be the director, I wouldnt shoot 1 minute of film, if this was the biggest question.

Shooting porn and socialism don't work well together.

Funny remark, "Socialism". I would prefer the term "enthusiasm". The best porn movies Ive have seen, were produced by directors and with girls, who not only had money and sale-units in their heads.

what do you base these figures on? i would imagina a contract girl makes more money than just for shooting scenes. there has to be alot more in it than a mere $125K a year. i'm sure there's some kind of package deal that goes along with being a contract girl.

Contract girls are "paid less" because their income is guaranteed by contract.
They perform far less, work for one studio, are not asked to perform the more extreme sex acts, often have some choice of partners and directors, make product with higher production values and, generally, get to work under far better conditions than the average pornchick.
The real money will come from what they are able to earn in addition to their contract work (e.g. feature dancing, escorting, etc.).
Your friends will NOT start out as contract stars... so all of you should NOT waste your time and effort thinking they will! This is not to say that, in six months to a year into it -- if they are exceptional and shine-up real well -- that it isn't a possibility. But, I'm afraid the "standard rich-and-famous contract" is only offered to Muppets.
I HIGHLY recommend that -- before leaping into porn -- your friends start by strip-dancing for at least a month (three months would be better).
Number one, they will find out if they like being piece-of-meat sex objects and have the temperment for working for scumbags and having strangers touching them.
More importantly, they will learn how to "move" erotically, and how to do make-up and dress themselves to find their "hot looks" and how to sell it.
Finally, if they do make the jump to porn, the dance experience is ESSENTIAL to make the real money in porn -- which is feature dancing and personal appearances (escorting is only for those willing to cross that line when and if the opportunity presents itself)! Escorting means you're doing $1,500+ visits and/or $500+/hour at an upscale brothel. Girls need to be something special and have the cache of being, or having been, a successful pornstar to command this type of money and customer.
Anything less than this and you're not "escorting"... you're a prostitute turning tricks.
One name-brand pornstar, who I will not mention, finally wound-up getting busted for advertising "$50 blowjobs" on Craig's List when all was said and done
Moral of the story:
* Learn the craft before jumping-in with cold feet...
* Be prepared to work very hard for two to three years...
* Learn the business while you're performing (you may be one of the chosen who takes it to the next level)...
* Don't fall into the drinking and drugs trap (it will rob you of your looks and judgement, guaranteed)...
* Learn how to promote yourself, so that you can make the gravy money feature dancing and making personal appearances long after your performing days are over...
* For the love of God, don't get a boob-job
(boob-jobs are for established girls who's careers have slowed-down, and who think that a new look with a new set of boobs will give them another year or two)
* If you ever do get a boob-job, spend the money and get it done right, goddammit
And, please, make something that we all can stroke to

I represent gonzo and contract girls. I have seen/negotiated almost every company's contract and know what they have offered. The lowest contract offer was $36,000 and that one of the biggest names in the business. But most are $50,000+. The highest is about $125,000. Im sure Jesse @ DP earns more but that is an exception.
As for gonzo girls, its easy. Most B/G rates are $700-$1000 x number of shoots per month x 12.
Math isn't my strongest skill but this isn't rocket science either.

I just love how you distinguish between the two, as if they were two totally different things.

On that note, I'll be sure to inform my maid that she is no longer my maid, but is now my "domestic sanitations specialist".

I agree with your numbers (from what I've been told by performers) but would also factor in the current "slow down" of porn dvd productions when estimating what non-contract girls make. DVD sales are plummeting, and though the internet sites (Bang Bros., Reality Kings, Naughty America etc.) are filling a lot of the void, getting work is still very, very competitive. Especially if the girl is "not willing to do anything really extreme."
My guess is the difference between the contract girl's pay and the non-contract girl's real earnings is shrinking. Especially, if the contract girl also has her own website, and feature dances a few times a year.
Bottom line: the money may soon be a "wash." So, going gonzo vs. contract depends on what "type" of career (long or short) the performer wants, what she's willing to do on camera, and how many different partners/directors and working conditions she's willing to put up with.

Anything less than $100K for a contract girl seems like a real waste of time. I'm not sure why girls would sign that. I don't doubt pornlaw's numbers though.

Some girls don't want to work as much as is required when you don't have a contract. Doing 12-15 scenes per year vs. between 50-100 means less wear & tear on the body. And (if they have one) less emotional strain on personal relationships. It's NOT only about the money.

How much extra income will a contract girl typically get through promotional appearances (video store signings, conventions, possibly dancing, etc...)? How does that compare with what a gonzo girl of equal stature would typically make?

Probably because most top girls work their asses off for the first 6 to 12 months (i.e. making tons of money), and then are often "shot out." Girls don't begin their careers as contract girls. Rather, they are signed to contracts after they have proven themselves. Often, by this point in their careers, the girls are anxious to slow down a bit and improve their working standards and schedules.
Some girls -- like Jenna Haze -- come back from the contract world and take their careers to even greater heights. But, most don't.

Yeah, I know about the wear and tear and all that, as well as getting "shot out". But still, $100K ain't what it used to be, and for girls signing for way less than that, like $50K, it just doesn't seem like much compensation for sucking cock in front of the camera for the whole world to see.

Yeah, but I don't think it's a safe bet to assume that all contract girls go into escorting.

I think DH meant that being a contract performer would get you more fame, verses being an independent performer, verses being an escort. Referring to another thread in the Porn Pool.

I was wondering if some contract companies put limitations on the types of website work their starlets can undertake/ and or put in contractual stipulations for a percentage of the profits. If DVD market is shrinking it seems that might offer an incentive to do so.
