I buy scenes I want there as opposed to getting memberships to a website like Naughty America etc. I do pay for my porn, I just don't pay a monthly membership or buy a physical DVD I can hold in my hands. What I'm wonderis is; Is it profitable to the studios that put their scenes on sites like this? I've heard they only get 20% of the money that are purchased on these sites.I'm wondering if that amount is correct because from what I understand, Forbidden fruits makes a fortune with their VOD and some of their scenes/movies are VOD exclusive (I know because that's where I get them). Anyone know if the other studios are making money by putting content on these sites? [Link] |

VOD is just another means to diversify distribution for the studios. So looking at VOD specifically only gives you part of the picture. Most studios that still release on DVD have various means to get their product out there - membership sites, clips sites, cable/satellite, VOD, a la carte downloads, and many times also sell territorial rights to distributors overseas. Long and short, product that's in demand does well on VOD and the studios are generally happy with the cut, but that's just one piece of the profit pie chart. After all, they do sell wholesale DVDs for a fraction of the retail price, right? The percentages, in the end, are comparable. A good studio knows that some people will never want to own a DVD, that some never want recurring billing, and that others don't want their local hard drive full of porn. Therefore, streaming rentals, pay-per-minute, and similar methods are a good option. [Link] |

Buying a DVD with 2-3 good scenes and 2-3 less than serviceable scenes at a premium price is bound to lead to buyer's remorse over and over.
