I spend an entire weekend with my gf and pop on here on Monday, expecting to find an avalanche of posts. Instead I find just a sprinking of "mee to"s...
So, to spice up the conversation, I thought I'd raise a question that came up this weekend. (no, not "is a pink dot a positive or a negative?" ) This might seem a bit off-topic, but what the hell, we may as well talk about somethin'...
Women can usually tell how attractive men would find another woman. Steph can probably look at ten women on the street and pick pretty accurately which would make most guys start drooling.
But most men (myself included) seem pretty clueless about what other men women would find attractive. Brad Pitt just looks like any other guy to me. So many times in the past, some of my women friends have said that a friend of mine is really attractive, and I think, WTF? He's not a "hunk", he's my buddy Joe...
So what do you think? Do you other guys have the same complete cluelessness about how attractive other guys are? This isn't a gay question - I'm not asking if you're attracted to a particular guy, just whether you think women would find him attractive.

I agree. When it comes to the men that my wife finds attractive, I haven't got a clue. Some of the men she comments on I find completely ugly. I say "You've got to be kidding?" But then again, I have surprised her with a few of the women I find attractive. It all comes down to "Women are one drink away from girl on girl action" and men just aren't that open minded for the most part IMHO.

I for one have no clue when it comes to determining the attractiveness of other guys. I mean, I can sort of see why some women go gagga over Brad Pitt, or the Calvin Klein underwear models, but when it comes to a regular guy on the street, I'm clueless. I even tried playing a game with my ex-wife once where I tried to pick out the guys that she would consider cute, but 8 out of the 10 I picked were a bust. But, then, she turned right around and picked 10 women, and they were all great-looking. Maybe some of the women can clue us in to their secrets.

I'm just as clueless as the rest of the group. However I have accepted the fact that I will never be able to comprehend the thought process and sense of logic found in most women. I'd rather stay sane.

It's hard to say in general. Women have such differing tastes, while men have a more predictable taste. I have seen that women I know typically like a guy to be...Clean Cut (or rough looking in a clean shaven, smells like soap kind of way)...Most women I know like a guy who is "Cool", which doesn't mean he IS ACTUALLY COOL. It just means he is perceived as cool by the people he happens to hang around. Most of them prefer a guy who seems to have a future or goal...And most of them like an "Easy Going" guy, one that never gets too excited, and has a confidence that almost lends itself to cockyness. I have noticed that some women like to act as vulnerable versions of themselves (ie...hang on the arm of a tall guy and smile while others are engaging in conversation, she merely listens and smiles). Of course, I am surrounded by High School Girls and they are not typically interesting to me. I hope that they will eventually learn that Mr. BILLABONG FRAT SMOKINWEED is not "Dreamy". I just reminded myself of something...They are not attracted to contention or bitterness . But, the overall thing I'm trying to say is that....
Attraction is a mental thing and a physical thing. Men and women have imaginations that fantasise about what type of person their "dream" is. We see someone beautiful and create a person that is not who they are, but who we want them to be. Women do the same thing...But since they are less concerned with looks than social status...They are less predicatable in who they will imagine is the "Perfect Person". The saying that holds VERY true is..."Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
This is all speculation, observations I've made....my favorite saying is, "I know enough to know that I know very little". So, don't give my opinions too much credit...after all I'm only 24.
Let's say you walk into an amazing house with 100 ft high ceilings and walk into a room with an indoor pool and best of all a spa. After a nice jet stream massage you get dressed in fancy clothes and get taken to a fancy charity dinner. During your meal you meet Mel Gibson, The lead singer from Garbage (who happens to know your date personaly), and your state Senator. Then you fly back to your home city and your date, says...do you mind if we stop by my mothers house...I need to drop off some Bannana Bread that I baked for her yesterday. Finally, you get back and this person offers to end things with wine by the fireplace. You have been getting undivided attention all night. If the "Girl Has Fun" then the guy is more attractive.
Ah...heck...nevermind...what do I know...I just like spouting out my thoughts as they come to mind...I am a constant rambler...In fact I sound bitter...maybe I need to learn something from this thread...
I get frustrated when I see nice, sweet, caring women drooling over the cocky, rude, cool, partying frat boys...Not that I would rather date them myself...It's just that it bothers me. I would like to think that people will one day be rewarded for who they are and not what lifestyle they represent.

p.s.--Guys...being an attentive listener really helps. I don't mean pretend to listen. I mean that when she tells you something...Make it interesting. Don't fake it, but change your thoughts to match her inspiration about the topic. Ie...feed off of her excitement to find your own interest in the topic. I am absolutely interested in anything that anyone has to say...If their passonate enough about it.

Whenever a question is 'for all the men here' then I feel I have to answer
First (vargr)
We are not all one drink away from a lesbian encounter -at least five drinks
Seriously though. Men are overall more predictable than women. I act on my gut all the time -that's not to say that I'm not a highly rational person -that's to say that I don't fully believe in rationality.
Most men find the same kinds of women attractive. I can't believe how many of you find Lexus beautiful -everything about her makes me want to puke -she just looks like the ultimate fake bitch. What I find attractive in a woman is not all that different (conceptually) than what I find attractive in a man. I cannot separate looks from person -even if that 'person' is just imagined/fantasized.
If a guy really knows me he should be able to figure out what I find attractive. Example -my boyfriend claims he wouldn't know, yet he knew I'd like James Bonn more than other male pornstars. Yeah Vince Voyeur is attractive but he looks like a frat boy -and James looks like the college professor/photographer type.
All women find different men attractive. There are basic good looks that we all generally agree on. But I'd take Johnny Depp over Brad Pitt anyday -why? because he's much more interesting (he can actually act), Brad just seems like an LA brat. I had a crush on Tom Petty as a kid -why? he's cool

if she's drooling over an asshole -then she's a moron. go find the girl who knows how to be friends with guys -and not just their barbie.
