I came to this forum expecting a bunch of guys exchanging info on which dvds covered their favourite porn fetishes and stars (hell I've used it for that purpose myself), but was heartened to find a significant number of women involved in the various discussions. The most interesting aspect of ADVDT for me over the past few months has been to discover the parallels and the differences in male/female enjoyment of porn and to read the various dialogues that result.
So, question: What dvd would you choose as an example of what you most enjoy in porn and why?

Thanks for that, Aztekgold. I can think of a few titles that have the sort of heat and passion that you're talking about, but they tend to also include some of the messier stuff that you'd prefer to stay away from...
Maybe someone else could suggest a title or two that cover all the above criteria?
I've been thinking about this. It's hard to describe succinctly. I can say, however, that I've never seen a single porno movie that appealed to me 100% from beginning to end. There are always portions (sometimes 90% of the disc--sometimes 100%) that I dislike intensely. Even in individual scenes, there are always moments that I find objectionable, if not repulsive.
I guess the movie that meets the most of my personal preferences (that I have in my stash) is BCS8. There's no stupid plot or terrible acting. There's no ugly guys. There's rough passion in several scenes, and awesome chemistry in others. There's one scene that just sucks, which is typical, I suppose. I like the fluid camera movements, the mid- and wide-shots, the use of natural and ambient light, the quality of the sound. Just about everything. Note that this movie was made in 2003. I like a lot of stuff from New Sensations from that period, particularly from Tyrone Shuz, Jonni Darkko and Andre Madness. The style is all-sex, but it doesn't have that reality-show, news-coverage, glaring-spotlight gonzo video look. It looks like film (don't know if it is.)
I really haven't found anything recent that I've liked that much. Generally I don't like features, but there are exceptions, particularly comedies. I hate it when porn takes itself seriously.
Which could kick off a whole other 'pet hates in porn' thread. Is there any 'What Women Want' sort of porn on the market, or is it just some lame porno equivalent of the mainstream chick-flick? I mean are there no female (or male) directors out there struggling to produce stuff that genuinely deals with women's wilder fantasies? There's got to be a pretty big market...
You'd think so, but I haven't found such a product. The potential market is huge, but nobody seems to know how to reach it.
And no, there's no laundry list of what women want to see. There's no single porn formula that turns on every man. To assume it would be any different for women would be to ensure failure from the start.
Every woman is different - what's important is the willingness to try, watch, fast forward, turn off, discuss - we've watched a few titles that the reviews lead us to but turned out to be 2 thumbs down - no problem, win some, loose some. Renting (via BushDVD) has been great for us because we don't know what we like yet so we just send it back and wait for the next DVD... Pagoda had a great point - even the best movie seems to have a few objectionable scenes - we just look at each other, shake our heads and fast forward.... no big deal - remember this is supposed to be fun. Fair comment. There are any number of things can make me fast-forward or skip a particlar scene...I'm a very picky porn-watcher. But I wasn't thinking in terms of formula. I imagine the best starting point would be female producers/directors given space to recreate their own sexual fantasies on set, rather than trying to match a particular template. Of course in his 'Where is the Creativity' thread jamesb23 was bewailing the formulaic nature of most porn today, and how there are very few directors (regardless of gender - my addition) who genuinely try to create something fresh. It's a widespread malaise, but no different from the majority of mainstream cinema. Ho-hum.
For me I like to see hot women and hard dicks in the movies I watch and review. I have watched a lot of all girl titles and in those cases I like it when the girls seem to be really into each other. As far as scenes with guys too, I like kissing and oral play before the sex. And of course the sex needs to be hot.
Nice to hear from you, Jewel. Sounds like you're in an enviable position. I began writing short stories recently just so I could shape my own fantasies to perfection (and maybe to make some money...) But actually turning them into live performance must be an incredible buzz. Do you have total control as director, or do you have a studio calling some of the shots?
No I have total control over my movies as I own them along with several other PXP titles so it's great being able to call the shots and watch it come to life before your own eyes.
I'll try and check out some of your stuff. It'll be all the more interesting knowing that I'm watching the director's fantasies brought to life. Do you have a current favourite?
My favorite that I directed recently was Size Queens #2 w/Selena Steele she's amazing and so great to direct. Also Spread Em'Wide #3 starring Keri Sable that movie was great to direct all the girls were awesome.
I like a lot of Jewel's movies. She never casts ugly guys, and back when she still performed, she kept the best looking ones to herself. Way to go, Jewel!

In general, I feel pretty safe in renting a movie directed by Jewel. She shoots rough sex and seems to make good choices when casting scene partners. I've seen some rocking chemistry in some of her scenes, and that's the most I can hope for in any porno movie.
Thanks for the recommendation. Think I'll track down Size Queens 2 - I enjoy Selena Silver's contributions on ADVDT, but I don't think I've seen any of her stuff. Plus I like the thought of a female porn director creating images on screen that excite HER. It'd be interesting to watch a hot rough sex DVD with less of the messier stuff that's aimed specifically at male viewers. (Don't get me wrong, I like that guy-stuff too.)
I have to say that as a straight male I much prefer seeing good-looking guys in porn scenes. It enhances the fantasy if I can believe the female performer(s) might actually dig this guy! Any porn in which the camera becomes voyeur to genuinely hot, mutually enjoyable sex has got to be a good thing. And if the participants can combine that with an element of theatrical performance without compromising on the heat, then that's a plus.
