OK. So I've been wanting an LCD for a while and I finally bit the bullet and bought one. A Samsung Syncmaster, if anyone's curious.
So. I was fairly pleased with it until I noticed something weird (Well, to me it's weird. Myabe it's normal. I don't know). The right side of the screen is brighter than the left. At first, I thought it was the angle I was viewing it from but I tired all sorts of things and sure enough, the right side actually IS brighter. So WTF? Is it a defect or is it fairly common with LCDs?

Also - I noticed some odd flickering every now and then. I've had the monitor on most of the night and it's only done it a couple of times but it was just....weird. Should I be concerned? Should I take it back?

OK..well, nevermind. I took it back and exchanged it. New one isn't doing it so far. Have to admit, I thought photos would look a lot better on a brand new LCD. Maybe I just saved a buncha shitty pics. Contrast seems to be out of control on a lot of them.

My old ViewSonic died recently and I decided to get an LCD instead of a tube (not that I had much choice if I wanted to get a monitor that day). I find the LCD to be much brighter, but the colors aren't as rich.
BTW, your first LCD was defective.

If my old Viewsonic is any indication, those were kickass CRTs. The geometry wasn't that great but the colors were pretty good and was still working just fine. I was just tired of all the heat it was putting out and wanted a widescreen for movies. Do you find that highlights are easily washed out on yours?

Well, this is odd. So. I got the monitor, hooked it up and everything worked fine......except that it seemed to be way too bright.....to the point to where highlights on photos would be washed out (unless it was a very low contrast photo). And I mean, it looked seriously wrong. I couldn't seem to remedy it with the buttons on the monitor without making everything look incredibly dull. So, I eventually went into the color correction settings on my desktop and just corrected it that way. It now looks the way I like it. But that shouldn't be necessary, I'm thinking?
