Kimi, I loved your answers. Thank you for puttingso much thought into them.

I was hoping you'd say Nautica. I think Nautica is my all time favorite venue anywhere. It is just the right size to see a good show. I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan there. It was oone of the best shows I ever saw, if not the best. It rained during Texas Flood, and beleive it or not only during Texas Flood. I was so blown away by his performance that I swore I would see him every time he came to town. I later saw him at Blossom and the Music Hall(I think that's what it was called). Unfortuantely he died before I could see more. I also saw Regae Sunsplash, Steve Vai-Joe Satriani-Kenny Wayne Sheppard, and Ramones-Debbie Harry at Nautica. I am thinking about going to see the Cult there. I am a big fan of the Cult and saw them at the Agora last year or the year before. Unfortunately I am not sure I will be able to make the show on July 6th. Financial stuff for me and my friend I was going to go with.

Meddle...Don't ya just love cranking One of These Days?

2 road runners? Hmmm...I think you're on to something

Bondage..I don't think I'm a big enthusiast. I like it only if the woman seems to enjoy it. I reviewed Shane's Ultimate Fantasy. I think the review somes up my feelings on it pretty well.

New Sensations puts out some good masturbation stuff. I have reviewed quite a bit of them. I will be sure to check yours out.

Another Pink Floyd fan? I think Alexandra Silk claimed to like Floyd as well. Are there more Floyd fans in the adult industry?

Meddle is good, although I like Wish You Were Here a little more. Also Atom Heart Mother, but that one is a little more experimental.

I don't know how many people in the adult industry are Floyd fans - and not to knock Floyd OR the adult performers, but a lot of people who are just stoners are Floyd fans for no reason other than PF having a rep as stoner music.
That aside, how could anyone who appreciates GOOD music not be a PF fan? They're lyrically strong, musically strong, artistically creative and amazing performers - even if its not your cup of tea, how could you fail to APPRECIATE their contribution. Mind you, there's a big difference between appreciation and just plain lovin' the daylights outta someone's tunes. I appreciate jazz - but it ain't my cuppa tea. (that is, I change the station if it comes on, the stuff gives me a headache!)

Atom Heart Mother was good, but it doesn't suit unless you're in the mood for it, and Wish You Were Here is just a tad too specifically focused - Meddle plays well no matter what mood you're in, if you're happy (and you know it clap your hands) how can you not sing along, if you're blue you just sink down into Echos, its also terrific for doing yoga to :)

I'm not the marrying kind - you'll just have to love me from afar and share me with the world. <sigh>

Unfortunately I don't get the opportunity to watch many cartoons these days, what little time I spend watching television is usually devoted to PBS.

Oh well. One day, maybe, I'll overcome that. But how, HOW, can I bear the burden of knowing that my life will NEVER be complete? Boo hoo!!!

Hey Kimi, don't take me too seriously! I just like to joke around and make other people feel happy and cherished.

Kimi,

Having returned to civilization, I just read your Pink Floyd answer, and noted another thread where you mentioned Jethro Tull as a favorite. (I trust you are aware that Thick as a Brick is a single album-long piece.)

You seem to be a real throwback to the 1970's.

How about King Crimson, for example?

And I'd like to know where your headache-inducing limit of jazz would be: is jazz rock like Steely Dan still on the safe side? Or possibly, I don't know, stuff like Pat Metheny?

Uh-oh, I'd better stop before I sound like a total nerd and/or a SFB - and without having seen you on video, no less. But I am impressed.

Incidentally, it could be interesting see a strip tease number to Pink Floyd's "Money" - would the time signature be a problem?

Yours, Momentary Lapse

Okay, let me see if I can tackle this one without sounding like a goof. It can be so hard to tell someone else exactly what it is about something that drives you up a wall.

As far as Steely Dan and other "jazz rock" goes its touch and go. Deacon Blues, Hey Nineteen, Reeling in the Years, Do It Again and FM are all terrific examples of Steely Dan I DO like - more bluesy-rock than jazzy-rock. Bodhisattva, Babylon Sisters, Kid Charlemagne and Bad Sneakers would be examples of Steely Dan that I don't like. Of course, there are some Steely Dan songs that are either jazzy or bluesy or just nothing special that suck just because they suck, regardless of style. :)
I think (yes, it does happen, but I'm trying to cut down) that what I dislike about jazz is the concatenation of unrelated themes and the "wailing" instrumentals. These sometimes turn up in other types of music and distress me equally in those settings. I don't like hearing saxophones and clarinets being played in such a way that it sounds like someone has a cat out in the backyard and is stomping on it. In classical music I'm not a fan of Mozart and other overly baroque styles, I DO understand that there is an overarching pattern in the music, and that the themes come together in that pattern but I don't "hear" it. To me it just sounds like so many discordant, restless notes and phrases.
There are types of music that are very closely related to jazz that I do like: Dixieland & Ragtime, Swing, and (some)Jive and Blues. The closer it gets to "progressive" jazz, the less I like it. Where that line is drawn specifically, I'm not sure I can say - but I know it when I hear it!

As far as being a 70s throwback <shrug> my mom was a hippie-chick (she's a mini-van driver now). Growing up I listened to her music, I formed my own likes and dislikes (my mom likes Neil Diamond!!! EEEEEK) but when the radio was playing, it was her station and the records were of that time, and it shaped my tastes. Living during the 80s didn't do much to impact that much stronger base of 70s music. Hair Bands and Air Supply - gods save us all from ever having to live through that again! The 90s had a surge of potential creativity, especially from women performers, but the Pop Rock and prepackaged groups beat it out. Sadly, I think music video had much to do with that - image became more important than content (image was always important, but never before to such a degree). Music video also supplants the consumers imagination, once you see the artists (or managers) idea of what the song "looks" like, its much harder to form your own imagery, the song becomes less personal, you lose something critical.

I just realized I'm rambling on and on - I better stop! <bashful grin>

Oh boy, oh boy - I love games! I think I'm gonna add to the game, though. <grin> I'm gonna rate different things about the groups. Creativity, Impact, and whether I personally LIKE them or not. In that order... :)

Beach Boys 8,8,7

Black Sabbath 7,8,2

Genesis (with Peter Gabriel) 8,5,3
Genesis (without Peter Gabriel) 4,4,4

Alice Cooper 8,5,3

Kiss 6,6,4

James Brown 7,8,3

Blue Oyster Cult 4,3,6

N'Sync 2,2,4

Pantera 5,3,0

Emerson, Lake & Palmer 9,5,8 (I would have given them a 10 before I had a poor concert experience with them, even though many of their instrumentals are too "jazzy" for me.)

Colosseum II ?,?,? (I looked them up, was pleased to read their impressive list of pass-throughs, and was impressed by how much some of their music sounds like ELP, and yet - it was grating on my nerves in some way, I might subject myself to them sometime in the future to explore the possibility of acquiring a taste for them.)

Kraftwerk ?,?,2 (This one gave me trouble, how do you rate this techno/industrial stuff? How much of it did they "create" in the rhythm machines, is the ability to recognize a nifty beat significant? What IS the impact of this? Iron Butterfly or Tangerine Dream would have been easier to rate.)

Jefferson Airplane 8,9,6

The Association 4,4,4

JJ Cale 6,5,1 (Listening to this guy is worse than Bob Dylan. Worse? Yes - Dylan has panache!)

Grand Funk Railroad 8,8,8

The Who 8,10,6

Frank Zappa 9,7,5

Styx 5,6,8

Faster Pussycat 2,0,? (I had to look these guys up, based on the lyrics I read, they sucked. Based on the "thousands of fans left behind worldwide" they had practically no impact, I didn't find anything to listen to so I don't know if I would have liked them or not.)

AC/DC 7,6,4

Ratt 2,1,1

Anthrax 7,4,1

Bobby Darin 2,6,6

Warren Zevon 8,7,7

Frank Sinatra 2,9,4 (If I had a category for popularity or interpretation, Frankie would get a 10 in either of those.)

I'm not an ICQer... but I'm email friendly :)

England is very nice with the Marquee and the shows at Covent Garden and the rare CD/book/video stores at Portobello Road and those wonderful museums (MOMI and the Natural History one), but ...

...what Kimi really needs is an overdose of the music and the sun and the food of lovely Rio de Janeiro. Yeah, babe!

(BTW... if you and John get divorced, you'll get half of his fortune, right?)

Sorry it has taken me so long to get to this but I had a little accident and hurt my foot last Thursday and I just haven't had the attention span necessary. Also, some of these groups are really obscure and I had to go hunt down some references and put in some time listening to them.

Focus ?,?,6 (Highly listenable, lots of stuff I've heard other places, and yet...)
Roxy Music 4,3,1
Nazareth 4,4,0
ABBA 5,7,7
Moxy Fruvous ?,?,? (Once again, I had to look these folks up, cute stuff - dunno if I'd actually ever want to LISTEN to a whole album of it, though. Didn't find a good biography, so I'm no judge on this one.)
Roy Orbison 5,5,1
Creedence Clearwater Revival 7,7,8
Iron Maiden 3,6,0
Crash Test Dummies 5,2,3 (I could acquire a taste for these guys, I like their lyrics a lot - but the music is sorta banal, and the vocal stylings leave much to be desired.)
Joe Jackson 4,4,1
Madness 4,3,-1 (thats right, negative one, if I ever have to hear "Our House" again something BAD is going to happen!)
Chic 8,8,7
Menudo 1,3,1 (Yeah, I know, the first Latin group to go worldwide pop - but... its the boy band thing, and they weren't the first or the best or even particularly creative.)
Pat Benatar 2,4,5
Manfred Mann 7,3,2
Elton John - (Wouldn't this be better asked if it were Bernie Taupin? I'm not objective enough to rate Elton John, I have ISSUES with him!)
Gene Vincent 1,2,? (Being an original isn't the same as being creative.)
Jim Croce 7,9,10
Elvin Bishop (the one from the Butterfield Blues Band) ?,?,? (Composite style, what am I supposed to say?)
Uriah Heep 6,4,2
Cheap Trick 4,4,2
BTO 6,8,7
MC5 7,3,3 (I'm gonna assume this is the Motor City Five, If they had managed to stay together and present a more united front they might have had a greater impact.)
Amon Dull II (Okay, these guys are obscure, I found NO info on them! I've never heard of them at all!)
Oingo Boingo 7,3,1
Elvis Costello 7,6,2
Moody Blues 7,6,4
Devo 7,5,2
April Wine 7,6,4
Blondie 6,6,3
Boomtown Rats 3,3,1
Kate Bush 7,7,2 (She's so strong lyrically, its a shame I don't like the music better.)
The Clash 6,7,3
The Stooges 3,3,1 (Bowie should have been spanked for giving this group a second wind.)

I'm afraid I have no plans to leave my country of origin. As for being the home of good music. Well - many great talents have come from the UK, also many blenders, thinkers of small thoughts, and just plain crap.

As for liking N'Sync, oh well - what can I say, they're easy to sing along with on the radio. You will note, they didn't even hit the midline of liking though - at 4, they're below average likableness (that's not a word!).

This is probably because Planet Sex mis-spelled the name, it is not Amon Dull II but Amon Düül II. (or Amon Duul if you are umlaut-challenged)

Here's one page I found. Have to confess I haven't heard them myself either.

So, what was your take on Tangerine Dream? Bearing in mind that the Tangerine Dream of e.g. Phaedra or Rubycon era sounds nothing like whatever they do now.

But to come in my defense, some progressive-rock bands have real weird names. Like Manheim Steamroller. I'm pretty sure I mispelled this one too!

I think Tangerine Dream was a major mover for sound and rhythm, I think they paved the way for experimental sound, techno, shifting, and all sorts of nifty stuff that everyone takes for granted now-a-days. I would have given them an 8 for creativity, a 7 for impact, but unfortunately, I don't find them highly listenable - so only a 6 for me liking them personally.
Isn't it a shame when a group changes so much over time? Well, maybe not. I should rethink that statement real fast! Some groups mature and it's a really wonderful experience (The Beatles are a terrific example) other groups stagnate, lose their angst (Metallica), or go through so many personnel changes that they don't sound anything like the original group and they shoulda changed their name. It's not fair to live off the laurels of a popular name when you have next to nothing in common with that original sound.

Kimmi, I assume you are joking, but that would Rock. Faster Pussycat doing porn music? Heck I'd buy the porn just for the music. Provided Taime Downe actually got back with the band. No Taime Downe, no Faster Pussycat. As a bonus, you would be in the video.

I am absolutely NOT joking! Lemme see if I can find the story real quick (opens another window). If I can't, go hunt it down on AVN (still waiting in the other window) oo... there goes the other window... and...for heaven's sake! Okay, the story was Dyanna Loren and Coral Sands doing a free chat promoting the release of the video Charlie's Devils 2 (The Next Position, or something like that - the boxcover is in my club in the photo album Videos). AVN's quick search for the past two weeks stories choked on me from 60-80 so I couldn't grab the article. Your Mileage May Vary.

Yes! It's one of my favorite sexual things to do.
I remember all of them, I haven't done so many that they've become a blur. Probably joking around with Mark Davis about using his penis as a swizzle stick for my tea was the most memorable - but that was behind the scenes.
Honestly, I have no idea - they don't bother to tell us lowly performers when things are going to be released or what format they'll be in.
Of course it does! Large equipment is uncomfortable to me. I prefer men of average to somewhat below average length.

I told you I wasn't joking - I found the article.

"Bionca and Coral Sands Live-Chat to Promote Charlie's Devils 2 Editor 7/2/2001
LAS VEGAS – Adult stars Bionca and Coral Sands will be doing a live chat this weekend to promote the new Lipstik Video Charlie's Devils 2. Bionca starred in and directed the original Charlie's Devils, and directed Charlie's Devils 2. Sands is a featured co-performer.
The director and stars will be giving away signed photos and videos to fans during the chat. “All they [fans] have to do is log into www.lasvegas1on1.com and click on the picture of the porn star they want to chat with. It’s free to access,” said Spencer Bennedict, who wrote both videos and is the Webmaster of LasVegas1on1.com. Bennedict is promoting the video nd Website for Lipstik Video, which is distributed by Paladin/Stan Loeb.

Both Bionca and Sands will be available for for-pay private shows. The chat feature is free. “I used to live in the house that houses the live-chat room,” Sands said. “It always feels like coming home to me. They let me bring my dog, and he plays in the pool. Well, I don't think anything I've done is DIRTY - except some projects in the garden, or cleaning the bottom of the fridge - if by dirty you mean unusual in a sexual way that most people would consider outrageous or naughty, wellllllll.

I've had sex with a pair of brothers - together at the same time :)

George Carlin used to make me laugh, but he's gone sorta femme-nazi or sensitive guy or something weird that just sounds angry and disillusioned.
Robin Williams also used to make me laugh, and sometimes still does. He's a bit more frentetic than I usually appreciate now, though.
Don Imus is still wonderful, he doesn't really even have to try, his sense of humor is built in, and casts a glow on any topic he discusses, in any way - no matter how serious.

As far as other comedians, I'm not sure any others get a regular nod from me. Foghorn Leghorn always tickled me. Gary Larson is right up my alley! Weird Al gives me grins, but not usually laughs.

Goals in life - to be happy, period.

Sorry to arrive so late to the party, but I just stumbled across this quasi-music thread.

Meddle? Man oh man, does that take me back! College days, early seventies. Meddle and the earlier Atom Heart Mother kept me from my studies on more than one occasion. For awhile Pink Floyd was my favorite band, although I began to lose interest as they got more popular. I always thought David Gilmour was a guitar genius, and if you can find any of his solo efforts, they're worth picking up.

Faster Pussycat? I picked up one of their CD's (Wake Me When It's Over) one time thinking they were somebody else. (Pussy Galore, maybe?) Still, pretty good stuff.

Speaking of Pussy Galore, any Jon Spencer Blues Explosion fans out there? Pixies/Frank Black? Hoodoo Gurus? Fleshtones? Dropkick Murphys?
