I JUST did one on May 23 for New Sensations, I don't know the title it will be released under, but I always try to track down my stuff, so I'll let you know as soon as I know. Cleveland's biggest hero, Drew Carey or Bernie Kozar? Well, neither - but if I have to pick just between those two I'd pick Drew Carey. Bernie, while a nice guy, isn't even a Cleveland native, he was born in Youngstown, and while our football team certainly got lots and lots of recognition during his stint playing for us (man do I miss the Cardiac Kids days!) he didn't really do anything for the Cleveland image or for the community overall. Always his own career and interests came first, he played for whoever hired him. He doesn't even maintain a residence in Ohio! He lives in Florida. He is active in charity work, but nothing thats Ohio or Cleveland specific (the closest would be the Youngstown Autism Fund, but it is for anyone, as a charity of that sort should be). Drew loves Cleveland. He's done more in the past 5 years to give Cleveland nationwide recognition (with everyone, not just the sports fans) than perhaps any other single person ever has. He's promoted a more positive image (and its nice when people say "oh, thats where Drew Carey is from.", rather than "oh, isn't that the city where the river catches fire?") of a city that has truly come a long long way and is a realy wonderful place to live. What would you do if you met John Elway? Get his autograph! DUH! What is your favorite concert venue in Cleveland? That depends on the concert at hand. I LOVE the Nautica Stage. Its like having a performance in your livingroom. There isn't a bad seat, and everything is up close and personal. I've seen Gordon Lightfoot there and Jethro Tull - and I can't image either of those concerts being better. When Gordon was playing The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald an ore freighter shipped down the river in the middle of the song - what a tribute! There's something special about listening to the Cleveland Symphony playing outdoors at Blossom, how can you even describe laying on the grass, staring up at the stars and letting the music flow over you. Its an experience not to be missed. Peanut M&Ms or plain? I don't like peanuts. So I guess it'd be plain. Would you rather have a man who could dance or one who could give a really good massage? I want one who can do both! I want to go out dancing and then get a massage the next day when I'm sore from going out dancing! What is your favorite CD? Pink Floyd : Meddle Who's faster, Speedy Gonzalez or the Road Runner? Speedy! You'll notice that in a couple of cartoons where the Coyote can't seem to figure out how the RR can be in so many places so fast, there is a SECOND RR! The RR obviously cheats. Speedy does all his own stunts. Love those bondage pics at your site. Are they from a movie? Willing Slave is a video put out by Bon Vue - the pictures in the Willing Slave album are from that shoot. I wouldn't recommend the movie for a serious bondage enthusiast, but it has a few good points. I think Nautica is my all time favorite venue anywhere. It is just the right size to see a good show. I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan there. It was oone of the best shows I ever saw, if not the best. It rained during Texas Flood, and beleive it or not only during Texas Flood. I was so blown away by his performance that I swore I would see him every time he came to town. I later saw him at Blossom and the Music Hall(I think that's what it was called). Unfortuantely he died before I could see more. I also saw Regae Sunsplash, Steve Vai-Joe Satriani-Kenny Wayne Sheppard, and Ramones-Debbie Harry at Nautica. I am thinking about going to see the Cult there. I am a big fan of the Cult and saw them at the Agora last year or the year before. Unfortunately I am not sure I will be able to make the show on July 6th. Financial stuff for me and my friend I was going to go with. Meddle...Don't ya just love cranking One of These Days? 2 road runners? Hmmm...I think you're on to something Bondage..I don't think I'm a big enthusiast. I like it only if the woman seems to enjoy it. I reviewed Shane's Ultimate Fantasy. That aside, how could anyone who appreciates GOOD music not be a PF fan? They're lyrically strong, musically strong, artistically creative and amazing performers - even if its not your cup of tea, how could you fail to APPRECIATE their contribution. Mind you, there's a big difference between appreciation and just plain lovin' the daylights outta someone's tunes. I appreciate jazz - but it ain't my cuppa tea. (that is, I change the station if it comes on, the stuff gives me a headache!) Atom Heart Mother was good, but it doesn't suit unless you're in the mood for it, and Wish You Were Here is just a tad too specifically focused - Meddle plays well no matter what mood you're in, if you're happy (and you know it clap your hands) how can you not sing along, if you're blue you just sink down into Echos, its also terrific for doing yoga to :) Kimi [Link]

Click to expand Okay, let me see if I can tackle this one without sounding like a goof. It can be so hard to tell someone else exactly what it is about something that drives you up a wall. As far as Steely Dan and other "jazz rock" goes its touch and go. Deacon Blues, Hey Nineteen, Reeling in the Years, Do It Again and FM are all terrific examples of Steely Dan I DO like - more bluesy-rock than jazzy-rock. Bodhisattva, Babylon Sisters, Kid Charlemagne and Bad Sneakers would be examples of Steely Dan that I don't like. Of course, there are some Steely Dan songs that are either jazzy or bluesy or just nothing special that suck just because they suck, regardless of style. :) I think (yes, it does happen, but I'm trying to cut down) that what I dislike about jazz is the concatenation of unrelated themes and the "wailing" instrumentals. These sometimes turn up in other types of music and distress me equally in those settings. I don't like hearing saxophones and clarinets being played in such a way that it sounds like someone has a cat out in the backyard and is stomping on it. In classical music I'm not a fan of Mozart and other overly baroque styles, I DO understand that there is an overarching pattern in the music, and that the themes come together in that pattern but I don't "hear" it. To me it just sounds like so many discordant, restless notes and phrases. There are types of music that are very closely related to jazz that I do like: Dixieland & Ragtime, Swing, and (some)Jive and Blues. The closer it gets to "progressive" jazz, the less I like it. Where that line is drawn specifically, I'm not sure I can say - but I know it when I hear it! As far as being a 70s throwback <shrug> my mom was a hippie-chick (she's a mini-van driver now). Growing up I listened to her music, I formed my own likes and dislikes (my mom likes Neil Diamond!!! EEEEEK) but when the radio was playing, it was her station and the records were of that time, and it shaped my tastes. Living during the 80s didn't do much to impact that much stronger base of 70s music. Hair Bands and Air Supply - gods save us all from ever having to live through that again! The 90s had a surge of potential creativity, especially from women performers, but the Pop Rock and prepackaged groups beat it out. Sadly, I think music video had much to do with that - image became more important than content (image was always important, but never before to such a degree). Music video also supplants the consumers imagination, once you see the artists (or managers) idea of what the song "looks" like, its much harder to form your own imagery, the song becomes less personal, you lose something critical. Well - many great talents have come from the UK, also many blenders, thinkers of small thoughts, and just plain crap. As for liking N'Sync, oh well - what can I say, they're easy to sing along with on the radio. Click to expand I think Tangerine Dream was a major mover for sound and rhythm, I think they paved the way for experimental sound, techno, shifting, and all sorts of nifty stuff that everyone takes for granted now-a-days. I would have given them an 8 for creativity, a 7 for impact, but unfortunately, I don't find them highly listenable - so only a 6 for me liking them personally. Isn't it a shame when a group changes so much over time? Well, maybe not. I should rethink that statement real fast! Some groups mature and it's a really wonderful experience (The Beatles are a terrific example) other groups stagnate, lose their angst (Metallica), or go through so many personnel changes that they don't sound anything like the original group and they shoulda changed their name. That having been said... He's a talented pianist. He's an engaging performer. I think he knows a good line when he hears one. I think he's a sell-out. I think he doesn't care what he sings, as long as it sells. I think he has very little personal creativity and I think he doesn't care if he gets all the credit. How could anyone sing "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and then go on to make music on demand for Disney. Shame on him! (we're not EVEN going to talk about Candle in the Wind and Princess Di) Bernie, on the other hand, is a master song-crafter. He's proven his talent behind the scenes of many stars. Just watching Elton's career flop when they weren't working together says VOLUMES about who was the real talent in that duo. Robin Williams also used to make me laugh, and sometimes still does. He's a bit more frentetic than I usually appreciate now, though. Don Imus is still wonderful, he doesn't really even have to try, his sense of humor is built in, and casts a glow on any topic he discusses, in any way - no matter how serious. For awhile Pink Floyd was my favorite band, although I began to lose interest as they got more popular. I always thought David Gilmour was a guitar genius, and if you can find any of his solo efforts, they're worth picking up. Faster Pussycat?
