+ 100 Windows Media. I've never experiened QT on a Mac, I hear it's better, but on a PC, it sucks.

I've never had a problem with QT on either a mac or pc. WMV's are another story altogether. Their streaming is often faulty and playback often entails doing new codec installations. They also aren't as cross platform compatible as mpg's and mov's.

wmv's should be fine out of the box with no codec installation, that's odd you've had such problems with it but not quicktime, which is an additional download of some very useless and bloated software from apple. if you reguarly view quicktime movies, i'd suggest getting the quicktime alternative not put out by apple as a decoder and just using MPC to view instead of apple's awful player.

I find that quicktime movies are clearer and thus better quality than windows media files.

I don't think so. Many mainstream movie companies release their theatrical trailers in Quicktime format.

Visit the Apple Movie Trailers web site for some samples.

But back to kicker_f1's original question, more information is needed. Do you mean streamable or downloadable? Both formats can have different frame sizes and bitrates. Some websites offer high quality Windows Media Files and low quality DivX files and some do it just the opposite. Some sites offer Quicktime files. All three can offer good quality if the bitrate is high enough.

I asked because in Jules Jordan website they let you download movies in quicktime and windows media format. I have downloaded both and they are pretty good. I also seem a slim margin of better image quality in quicktime in comparison to the windows files.

depends really, quicktime is a little better but windows media is smaller too (dont forget!!).

I really don't care about space anymore. I have a 200 GB Hard drive and another 80 GB. In few months I'll be getting a 300 GB hard drive. Hard drives this days are pretty cheap :P if you don't believe me goto:

+1 Media Player Classic.

I also strongly vote for RealAlternative (which bundles MPC) and allows you to uninstall Real and all of its evilness.

I always hated the Quicktime player ... ugh! So of the two, I'd have to say Windows Media.

Also, I don't think Real Media files are that bad. The *players* were very annoying, but the quality of the video was not bad considering the fast encoding time and modest file sizes.

Ever since upgrading to MP9, I've experienced the Green Screen of Death about 50 percent of the time when viewing streaming video on sites that have M$ embedded MPs. BTW, the problem has persisted with MP10
