Since a while I'm not visiting ADT that much anymore. When after having a quick look at it, I would like to re-set all items on 'read' (using the &quotall topics read for all forums"-button), I receive (after a long wait) a warning:
"We are sorry, the server encountered an error processing the page you requested. An error notification has been automatically generated and forwarded to the webmaster."

Can I change something on my PC to make this re-setting actually work?

I think the server is doing all the work, not your PC.

What I find works, for whatever reason, is to hit the refresh button if the task hasn't completed after a minute. Sometimes I have to do that three or four times, but it ends up working more often than not.

are you doing it in individual forums or on the main forum page?

from the main forum page, Drew (although I remember having tried from the individual forums with the same result)

like Hardware wrote (thanks btw, Hw), re-starting this re-setting process several times helps (either by re-clicking the 'set read'-button or by refresh), but can take several minutes

Don't mention it, pinc_noiz.

As it seems to happen more often in Star Crossed than, say, Pop Culture, I'm guessing that the number of threads being viewed that need to be set as 'read' has something to do with the problem.

PS - I gave up trying to set all items read from the main forum page ages ago. I do it by individual forums.

I'll look into it.

I never have a problem with it but I think it has more to do with the fact that I don't read as many posts as Hardware might than the number of posts in a particular forum. I bet it could use a little index tuning.

The 'set all topics read in all forums' button never seems to work from the active topics page (nor is there any sort of error message: clicking it just does nothing). I have to go to the main forum page and click the button there - that one has never given me any trouble.

It should work from the active topics page now.

Most of these errors are stupid things that seemed so simple to code that I never bothered to test them. I'd get fired if I had to do this as a real job. ;)

Also, let me know if it's working any better from the main forum page. I had five different indexes on the table that keeps track of which topics were read by which user. That's too much data to try to update at one time. It how has one index. Hopefully that fixes it.

Yes, so far it's doing pretty well in all forums. I've only had to urge it along one time.
