I had spent a hefty $15.50 on global priority as i needed it ASAP. But rather then sending it in a global priority letter (as every other decent retailer here does) they sent it in a very large conspicous jiffy bag (A3 size!). Despite the fact the 3 dvds only totalled $42 i was charged £7.77 ($15) by customs. I assumed the items had been stolen in the post (another danger when sending boxed dvds) so reordered them with a more trustworthy retailer here. In the meantime i had to apologise to the guy who had paid me to get him these dvds and throw him some freebies as compensation. So the result of Adultvideouniverse's policy of not removing dvds from boxes, sending large packages rather than letters and declaring the full value of the order... means i have waited 23 days and paid an extra $15 for the privilege PLUS reordering these titles PLUS giving away free films. A rather expensive mistake on my part. I e mailed Adultvideouniverse about their policy and their reponse was... "Unfortunately, we are unable to remove any contents from the items. However a tip i can provide you is, if you place small orders about 1-2 items they are usually sent in Envelopes'. Well, i have a better tip. How about if i order 0 items and save myself the hassle? Not that this will help you now. Guess you won't be ordering from them again in a hurry. Retailers : If you don't already do this maybe you could consider utilising the 'customs-friendly' (international) shipping method that Orgazmik (always) and Adultdvdtoday (sometimes) employ. i.e. discs are removed from sealed boxes and sent with covers in either a cardboard envelope or even better, a white envelope with a wedge of cardboard enclosed (secured with sellotape on the reverse for added security). I'm not saying use this all the time. But to your customers who don't want boxes (they're easy to obtain locally, via eBay for example), and those of us who aren't worried about returning our DVDs for an exchange or refund (some of us have spent a good while looking exhaustively at the back and front covers of what we've ordered after all!) This shipping method (cardboard/envelope) is bound to attract far less unwanted attention than a jiffy bag (especially an A3 sized-one!) and less customs hassles [Link] |

As a seperate matter i recently ordered non adult material from the USA (audio cds) and was told (after shipment) that the full cost including shipping charges is shown on the customs label,this will put me over the £18 limit. Customs have told me that I will need to pay the postman the extra fees, send them a copy of the invoice etc to get a refund . Now this is something to complain about! satelliteguy [Link] |

And although there may be other issues to complain about, just because a company won’t break the law for you, don’t blame it for poor service on that count. Rather a mere part of the whole shoddy buying experience (slow delivery time/inappropriate packaging AND the customs declaration). PS Don't know about you but it seems to me that the number of people who actually stick to the 30mph speed limit are very much in the minority nowadays (police included). [Link] |
