The 2GB version is probably the best buy (among 1, 2, 4, and 8GB versions), and you can play video on it if you ever need to carry around some porn clips to watch on a 1.5" screen. Which ones are you looking at?

I was a bit worried about it not having a screen, but since when I load it with music I set the file structure myself, so it is easy to navigate blind. They claim 10 hours of continuous play per battery charge but I haven't run out the battery yet to find out if it's true. Edited by - conquistador on 5/20/2007 5:07:40 PM |

| cubesnake Senior Member 3858 Posts 10/02 | I recently bought a MP3 player. Even though i´m quite happy with it there is a major flaw that hasn´t been fixed yet. I don´t have the correct data at hand but if i´m not wrong it was about 50 folders and 350 songs (calculated from internal and external memory) here´s a link to my mp3 player http://www.teac.de/dspd/index.php?cont=products/products.php&prod_id=231&id=10&lang=de

Not everything mind you, but all of the basics and then some. I have listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts on my IPod, as well as music of course. I haven't used other podcatchers (podcasting clients), but the one in ITunes works just fine and is seamlessly integrated with the IPod, including having it's own category for podcasts. If money isn't the prime issue, I don't think you can go wrong with an IPod. Dr. P |

Especially me, I use my player while I do building maintenance. I'm glad I paid 40$ for it because I don't really care if it gets fucked up in the course of it's duties. And the ipod certainly does way more and is more costly then necessary for what the original poster was looking for (except maybe an ipod shuffle). Edited by - conquistador on 5/24/2007 6:34:40 PM |

If not, can it skip ahead in, say, 1 minute increments? Not a big deal if you're listening to a 4 minute song. But if you're listening to a 2-hour show, it becomes important. |

I'm using a set of Sennheiser HD 497s and it just has enough power to get them up loud enough to satisfy me. The only thing I'm not thrilled with so far is the thumbwheel is a little stiff. But I think it might loosen up as it wears in. You can put photos and videos on it. Best of all, it's a flash player so no hard drive to worry about and if the rechargeable battery dies, you can replace it yourself. I think that kicks the Nano's ass. And it's cheaper, too. |

| DrP0rn0 Senior Member 1836 Posts 5/04 | ITunes is way more than just a "music store". ITunes is a music manager that can import and organize any MP3 file. I have ZERO purchased music from ITunes, but I have nearly 2000 songs that I have ripped from my own CDs, and a few MP3s from other sources as well. As long as the ID3 tags in your MP3s are populated (artist, song title, album, etc), ITunes will work seamlessly with your collection. People with big MP3 collections tend to run into a few problems: First, if you have lots of (probably illegal) MP3s from lots of different sources, the ID3 tags are probably incomplete or missing entirely. This will play hell with ITunes, as it uses the ID3 tags for all organization. The file name is not taken into account at all, nor is it displayed in the ITunes interface. Good ID3 tags are a must for ITunes. Second, people with big collections tend to put them in folders for organization by genre, artist, etc. ITunes doesn't care and will import and entire directory structure. However, you won't see that structure at all any more. Some people really, really hate this as they are used to organization by file system, rather than organization by artist, album, song, genre, etc. ITunes organizes by metadata, not by file or directory name. Third, ITunes has no concept of a "live folder". That is, you can tell ITunes to import the contents of a folder and it works just fine. However, ITunes will not continue to monitor that folder for new files. It looks once when you tell it, then stops looking. People who download lots of music (again, mostly illegally) hate this and expect live folder updates. ITunes will not conform to this model. Those things being said, if you aren't a big downloader and/or aren't addicted to your file structure for organization, ITunes is an *excellent* music manager. If you are working from your own CDs, ITunes is particularly good, as it populates all ID3 tags as it rips the music from CD. Dr. P |

Most of them come with 512k or more, play Mp3 and Mp3pro, they run a decent amount of time on standard AAA batteries (1 or 2), and are expandable with inexpensive SD cards. These days, they can be found for $50 or less. |
