I have a few different local stores, all with different pricing structures.

The one that I go to most often has rentals for $5.00 (tax included). However, for every tape rented, the next one is half price. So 1=$5.00, 2=$7.50, 3-$12.50, 4=$15.00, etc. They also rent DVD's for $5.00. Offically there is no half price deal for DVD's, but they usually make an exception for me. This store is owned by a distributor, so they get new releases daily and have a great selection

The store that I go to the second most charges $5.00 per tape (tax included). No discounts, no DVD's. I go to this store because they also get new releases often and carry a few lines that the first store doesn't

The next two stores both charge $3.99 per tape. Neither of them get movies as often as the other two. however, they both get a line or two that the others don't carry. Both of them have Rent 2 get one free specials on given days of the week.

Edit: Oh yeah. I forgot to mention, with the exception of the second store, all of these prices are for 2 night rentals. The first store is in an industrial park and many of their customers work there. Therefore, they don't charge a late fee if people return their Friday rentals on Monday.

In my old city, I paid $5 per tape at the adult video place for 2 nights. Sometimes, he would give me 2 for the price of one. He wasn't yet renting DVDs, though he sold them. I also rented adult movies from the regular video store...$4 for one night for new releases and 2 for $3 for older titles...generally Vivid, VCA titles and such.

Loving renting online......really ends up cheaper and easier (the adult rental shop was always a 10 or 15 minute trip to get to.)

I patronize only one independently owned store for renting. They have alot of the older titles (some are classics) for rent at 99 cents Tues through Thurs. New releases and other current titles are $2.99. They just started a DVD section for rent or sale. Rentals are $3.99 and virtually all the DVDs that are for sale are at MSRP. Sometimes they will have a sale that is 15% to 20% off MSRP. For buying, I can get much better deals using ADT and the coupons, kickbacks, etc.....

From my porn store I can rent one movie for $4.00 for five
days two for $8.00 or 3 for 10.00. Half the store is vhs
the other half is dvd you can also order dvds at the store
at a reasonable price almost all the other stores don't
rent porn which is kind of odd since their is three strip
clubs not to far from the vid shops.

Here, different stores have different schemes...

$5 for one tape
$8 for two tapes
$10 for three tapes
(two days for new releases, five days for old titles)

That's pretty typical.

Some stores have "memberships" where you pay annual or semi-annual fee and get discounts on these prices. For instance $25 for six months might save you 50% off that price. Although it's somewhat annoying to pay a membership, it is worth it for frequent renters.

One store around here recently made what I consider to be a lame brained decision. No more DVD rentals! They said the DVDs were not as durable as VHS.

The place I rent them from charges $4.06 (including tax). The store is open 24 hours per day, so the due time is by midnight the next day.

Pornophile, the place you're describing sounds like Odyssey Video. I do like their selection -- and on Tuesdays and Thursday, especially their prices -- but it's just far enough away from me to make me want to pay the higher prices at the store closer to me.

There's several porn shops around here that I frequent where I rent all the latest titles on video and DVD for $2.99 each, with older titles going for 99 cents. They also have many specials available such as rent 3 get one free and so forth, which makes for an even greater incentive to add more items to my shopping cart.

The cheapest I have found is 10 titles (new/old and VHS/DVD, doesn't matter) for 16 Euro and I get to keep them for 7 days.
Another store is 7 titles (new/old and VHS/DVD, doesn't matter) for 24 Euro for 7 days.
And yet another store is 5 titles (new/old and VHS/DVD, doesn't matter) for 9 Euro for 7 days.

No wonder I never buy and only rent.

That sounds sort of steep for such a short rental period. If you rent in the evening - say 10:00 p.m. - that's only 14 hours.

Luckily most stores around here have moved towards longer rental periods.

You're right, Snowman. But it's a matter of convenience for me. The place is really close and I've been renting from there for a while. I haven't felt like finding a new place.

As for the short rental period, I agree with that too. It would actually be 26 hours if I rented at 10PM. I try to get around it by renting shortly after midnight. I'm usually up anyway. That way I have almost 48 hours before it's due.

Whoops... you are right. My math skills must really be on the skids!

I used to live in the LA area in the late 80's and I didn't think porn was all that easy to find for being the place where 90% of it is produced. Nor was it very cheap to rent.
