"Erotica" seems to be a "softer" word than "pornography", do you think if the word porn was removed from general use and replaced with erotica, it would be accepted more in society?

Well, it is a very "society" sounding word. And I really hate that. Porn will lose all of it's appeal if society ever completely accepts it.

Actually, these days, a lot of the hardcore is far more boring. I find some softcore refreshing.

Erotica doesn't have to be "softcore" . Hardcore could be considered erotic if it were done in such a way that it evoked a certain amount of sensuality.
I 've read a lot of posts on here and other boards, which addressed the idea that porn producers only put material in their films which interests them.
Having said that, I think the seperation between erotica and hardcore might be merged if producers, or directors DID make movies that consisted of material that TURNED them on.
I am thinking specifically of female performers turned directors and\or producers.
This might require them to step away from the "porn pool" where any amount of "shock and awe" or sensuousness has drown in an abundance of the same.
I think anal could be WAY more sensuous then it is, but it is a matter of pace and accompanying commentary, in my opinion.
Timing is the primary attribute of importance here (IMO). It might be that the scene's pace should mirror, to a certain degree, the pace of such an act if it were to occur between real-life lovers. This may mean that you will get scenes which go longer than the (seemingly) standard 15 minutes. However, if they are done correctly (If they build to a 'Crescendo') you should be more aroused by them than a 15 minute scene that moves too fast and has no effect.

Since porn and erotica actually mean different things you can't go around changing their meanings.
There are adult shops on major streets where I live. Looks like it's pretty accepted in society.

The words mean different things.
Porn truthfully describes the tone of most of the current sexvids--that are hardcore and extreme sex. Slam, bam, no thank you, m'am. Erotica suggests softer activities, stimulation, foreplay, etc.
Let's call it what it is.

My intention is to focus on interpretation.
For example: BDSM is "labeled" a fetish within the pornography community (IME). However, even though it is labeled a fetish, that does not prevent people who enjoy it from eroticising it.

Ben Gazzara, played Jackie Treehorn in the "The Big Lewbowsk" once said " Sex is dirty and I like it that way. Sometimes I agree.
