I was watching a interview with a new california republican state congressmen, and he say he is going to submit legislation to raise porn age to 23 or 25, and that he has bipartisan support to do so,and he said he think it would cut down onsome of abuses of young college aged woman, and he even mentioned pornstars like penny flame and a few other girls who had bad experiences. what do you guys think.
1] It would be appealed by the Audult Entertainment Industry as unconstitutionally biased and a stay would be ordered while under appeal. The courts would rule for the law to be constutional the legal age for viewing and possession would have to be raised to the same level as the age for appearing in the films. or... 2) The Adult Industry loses the case and packs up and moves production to Miami or the Carribean.
Why now when there seem to be more girls than ever being 25 and up? It wouldn't be fair to girls growing up enjoying internet porn having to wait another 7 years.
Interesting that many female performers have openly said they would like the age raised to 21 because they don't feel women (and presumably men, though this is less of an issue) are mature enough at 18 to be going into porn.
25 is maybe a little bit too much but I can definitely go with 21-23. I love women in their early to mid twenties and it's pretty sick how little 18 year olds have been going into a ruthless industry like porn.
Until you can post a name I don't think anything about this. An online search has resulted in nothing about this. There are 18 Republican members of Congress from California out of 51. Who said this? Edited by - cameraop on 1/14/2011 2:40:23 PM
They should make sure the MALE talent stays UNDER 25 years of age...

This guy probably campaigned on a more jobs for Cali platform and the first thing he wants to do is cut jobs. I guess the budget, immigration, and education issues in CA aren't that bad then if this is his 1st priorirty.
Im not agreeing, with raising the age, but the army comparison. is like saying that just because a 9 yr old, can cross a street by himself, that means he is smart enough to buy a house. Im saying the risk of joinign the army are pretty concrete. its either death or injury not that hard to weight the risk. In porn with psychological complexity of sexuality, and also o the fact doing 1 porn movie can affect relationships and freindships for the rest of your life, might be a little bit more complex to weigh in risk analysis, for a 18 yr old who is just thinking about partying on friday.
Okay, we all got your deep concerns with the psychological complexities, but who was the Republican Congressman with bipartisan support on this proposed legislation and the story connected to it?
^ Me three. I google-gaggled this up and down six different ways and logged onto the LA Times AND called the CA state legislature. (I couldn't provide a name so they said they'd get back to me when they could. This is me holding my breath. Shit, if they do call me back it'll probably be collect.) I think the OP is a BS troller and, though I have no love for the GOP, he may be someone trying to get some cheap heat by blaming a republican for something that would obviously raise the ire of the ADT crowd. Besides, what the fuck can the state or a State congressman really do about raising the porn age? That's pretty much a federal mandate, bubba. It could happen, but like marijuana legalization, porn lobbyists would have it placed on the ballot as a Proposition. California could make it illegal to perform sex for profit like most states have. But considering the budget problems how well do you think that would go over? Porn brings the $$$. (Well not from Janine, but otherwise...) And he has "bipartisan support"?? Ignore this guy until some verification is available. Edited by - zarinafan on 1/14/2011 11:38:33 PM Edited by - zarinafan on 1/14/2011 11:46:47 PM
At 18 you can join the army and be sent to kill or be killed but aren't mature enough to do porn? The 21 age is meant to undercut the "MILF kryptonite": the Barely 18 whiff of jailbait renewable resource that is cute and willing girls who realzied after they graduated from high school that they don't have any money or skills and stuff is expensive. The biggest ones who want it raised to 21 are Vivid, VCA and Wicked b/c so many of their performers are on the side of 30 rather than 20 and they don't want the competition that gonzo has brought in the past 20 years which hurts these abvoe named companies market share.

sounds like B.S. to me or the ramblings of one nut, Im sure lots of Republicans watch porn.
18 years old is not mature enough to join the military either, but the military doesn't give a fuck because they want weak, immature, impressionable minds that they can brainwash. Duh.
I've sometimes wondered how these age restrictions are "constitutional". In California you only need to be 18 to buy a pack of cigarettes. But you have to be 21 to buy alcohol. At 18 you can vote, serve on a jury, and join the army. i think you can serve alcohol, too. Seems like the alcohol industry has a weak lobby or something. I've also heard of studies that show by raising the age restrictions on tobacco and driving would save lives. But I haven't heard anybody floating any bills on those. Although to be fair California has enacted some restrictions on teenage drivers. Meanwhile it seems like the number of porn actresses with "bad experiences" is pretty low. But I haven't really paid much attention to that. Also I imagine the worst cases don't get much publicity. I also hadn't heard that Penny Flame had any problems. She looks so happy on my TV. I also noticed that Sophia Lynn is back in porn and wasn't she one of those girls with "bad experiences". anyone know the real deal with her? Perhaps California should create a warning label. Although I'm not sure where is should go. Maybe on the males talent's privates. Ha ha! Anyone got any ideas on what the warning label should state.
The reason why the drinking age is 21, is because of the car insurance lobby. they lobbied hard to get the law changed, because they are afraid of teenagers driving drunk and running up their cost, but one could debate their arguement. As far as where I got the story it was public access chanel with some politicians. They were talking about. the budget, and legalizing marijuana and prostitution came up One guy in the audience brought up porn, and the congressman made the raising the age suggestion and said he could get bipartisan support. I guess my thread title was a little misleading sorry. I dis agree with the military comparison like I said its easier to way life death and injury, than say intimacy problems, relationship problems later on in life, but I believe, we can debate how many ppl have problems after porn, because there is really know definitive study on the matter. I believe 25 is a little high, but 21 seems reasonable. In college there seemed to be a huge difference maturity wise regarding sexuality between the seniors and freshman.
You say "Republicans"? First off, you only mention ONE Republican (and don't even give his name). Second, you later say he claims to have "bipartisan support", which implies that Democrats support the so-called legislation as well. So why do you say "Republicans" in the title of your thread if you only heard one Republican say it and he claims to have bipartisan support?

because republicans are all about being anti-gay, pro-gun, pro-religion...that is their base...any issue that touches one of those 3 things...repubs make noise...anything else, they are weak on. I think porn touches the religous vibe for them. However..they are watching as much as anybody. How about putting all porn on a xxx domain and locking it down with a manditory credit card to verify age....
Seems to me the Goverment should have more inportant things to worry about then an age limit to get into porn.Using Penny Flame as an example is stupid, no one pointed a gun to her head to make her do porn.If she spent her money on drug and what not that's on her. I'm sick and tire of these whinny ass porn stars who blame porn for they're miserable exsitence.
I remember a study citing states with heavy restrictions on buying/selling pornography ("red states") had the highest rates of people ordering porn in hotel rooms. I'm curious, though, is the politician involved a state assemblyman or a senator? Odds are I know him personally and can offer some insight into whether he could actually muster support to pass a law or if he's just blowing some steam.
The credit card thing won't work. I can put my 16 year old nephew on my credit card account and get a card with his name on it anytime I want (not that he even knows how to use a credit card, but he could be taught). He could then use this card as "age verification" under your system.
I'm tempted to call BS on the original post. I don't believe it for one second. I don't even believe that a politician would even venture into that area. The claim that there supposedly was "bipartisan support" makes no sense. Politicians only touch porn with hopes of 1) banning it or 2) get more revenue from it. Give us the source or it makes no sense to discuss that "proposal". As for the topic in general its been discussed to death. Yes, raising the age would probably help some young, confused, vulnerable people. Raising it much beyond 21 probably wouldn't make any difference. Would it be a good idea to raise it or would it make sense considering that 18 is the age we allow almost everything else? Probably not.
That actually tells me a little. The Republican Conference moves fast to get its priorities across and right now that doesn't include raising the age limit for viewing porn. If anything comes of what is most likely a one-man crusade, it'll be later in the year after the June Special Election. If the tax measures fail, then the assembly Republicans might feel the need to exercise their power. They take up one-person issues that won't get much attention and even keep the Speaker/whips at bay. Even then it will not go through any requisite committees, and probably won't even be formally introduced. It's not worth what little political capital the conference has, and the Democrats are three votes out of a supermajority in the Assembly.
Well so far, I haven't been able to find anything on this that proves that it is for real. I am willing to, for the sake of argument assume it is legit. The first problem is that the title says "republicans" and when I opened it up, it refers to "A" republican. Along with that, if you are going to believe this, you will have to notice that the single republican apparently has bipartisan support. If you don't know what that means, the simplest way to explain it is that he has both republican and democrat support. Perhaps the title should be, "A republican, with both republican and democrat support, want's to change the age to 25 years in order to enter into porn. It is clear that almost everyone here hates republicans for a lot of different reasons. Some even believe that republicans hate america and he questions why. Even if this is true, we are not talking all republicans, rather "A" republican and it doesn't mean the rest of them believe that. If you hate Republicans because of their past and present stances on porn, why do you not hate democrats for the over taxation of all americans which effects porn stars, producers, etc. This effects every financial decision that any company makes which absolutely effects to quality of not only the video, but the stars of the videos. Not only that, but a decision to pay $20 for a video when you are being over taxed, especially during a recession is probably not going to be made and that has an effect on the industry overall as well. I don't agree with changing the age at all but there is no way that I'm going to blame a single political group when they are all equally guilty for negatively effecting you favorite industry, (in this case, porn). If you need porn to "rough up the suspect", keep in mind of all the factors involved in lessening the product you use.
I'm a big West Wing fan. "The West Wing: Pilot (#1.1)" (1999) John Van Dyke: If our children can buy pornography on any street corner for five dollars, isn't that too high a price to pay for free speech? President Josiah Bartlet: No. John Van Dyke: Really? President Josiah Bartlet: On the other hand, I think that five dollars is too high a price to pay for pornography.

Well then that is YOUR fault...YOU put your nephew on YOUR credit card...Let's face reality...starting at some early age...10? you begin to discover and hoard naked women like they were gold...so...it is the parents job to prevent their boys from getting porn until they are on their own...18? After that it is a free for all...good luck, but prior....the credit card idea and a domain solely for porn is a GREAT idea. Better do it soon or we WILL see the age increased to 25 and an age verification thing interent wide...that will be the next issue.
