you were a shitty parent? Or would you think you where? What say you? *note this thread is meant for mature discusion, if you want to flame me.....email me*
If I had a daughter I'd be more concerned about her turning into one of the bigots who shun people working in the industry. I would nonetheless go into great lenghts to make sure she knows what she's getting into and to provide her enough (financial) backup to rule out desperation for money as her reason for doing it.

^^ why are people considered bigots, if they don't agree with pornography? Curious though. If your daughter came to said she was thinking of entering the industry. you would be for it? you wouldn't think she was selling herself short, taking the easy way out, or (seriously)maybe sinning(if you are a religous person)? Edited by - TeganLovesSara on 12/28/2009 5:45:06 PM
As a father, I would have to say that if my daughter started doing porn, then yes, I would feel that I had failed as a father in some way. In a biological/anthropological sense, my only reason for living now is to help see her through life, and I cannot imagine that the best contribution to society that she can make, or the most direct course toward her self-realization and happiness would be through doing porn.
A bigot is not someone who refuses to consume pornography but who (for example) refuses to employ people who've been working in porn. Hence me using the word 'shun'. I don't think she'd be doing anything wrong, no. Would I be *for* it? I'd be concerned about her working with some of the more harmful people. For as long as she's not desperate for money, she'll have the option to turn their bookings down, so that shouldn't be an issue. What do you mean, 'taking the easy way out'? Out of what? Selling herself short, definately not. Maybe it's because I'm from a country where even prostitution is at least not illegal, but working in porn has no stigma in my opinion. *edited for typos*
I don't have a daughter. If I did and she was doing porn, I would ask her if she was happy. There are so many things that are worse that could happen to a person than just doing porn. If she got mixed up with hard drugs, I would be more upset. I'm guessing it's possible to do porn without that happening. Porn, in and of itself, does not have to be some terrible thing and I think a girl would be more likely to have a bad time if her family rejected her or disowned her. I don't have any children, but I do have a sister that could do BBW if she wanted to. Because of the bad elements in porn (Max Hardcore is one) I pray almost every night that she doesn't ever do porn. Luckily she hasn't came up with that idea yet (and she had viewed porn before, so she isn't completely out of that loop), and I hope she never does. Unfortunately if she did, it would probably be for financial reasons. I just think she doesn't have the personality or the mental fortitude to be able to handle the porn lifestyle well.

This thread reminds me of a Chris Rock joke when he said that the only job that a father with daughters has is to keep her "off the pole." According to him, "If your daughter is a stripper [or pornstar], you fucked up."
yes, we are all hypocrtyes. We like to watch porn, but would not like our daughters, sisters to do it ! I would not like my daughters to do it. The other question on a related subject that has always fascinated me is Have you ever watched a porn movie and found out the star was your daughter (or wife). Assuming that you watch classic porn.
My sister is a stripper, but my concerns don't have to do with anything about morality but--instead--safety issues. My parents have similar feelings. I don't feel that my father "failed" as a parent, though. While the stereotypes might ring true in many instances, I don't feel that they do in the case of my sister--and, hence, all cases. I would like for her to find a safer profession, though...and one that will be better at building her resume for the future.
If you start judging parents by the occupations of their children ... there's a lot of parents that have failed. Michael www.2257Safe.com www.AdultBizLaw.com
This thread reminds me of all the times mental images of random family members have suddenly appeared in my mind just before I climaxed. I've had the odd visual of a crowing rooster or a braying mule at that inopportune moment a few times as well. Edited by - randomprecision on 12/29/2009 4:06:24 AM
If it's okay to watch porn, then it must be okay to make porn too. But most parents who like to watch porn probably wouldn't want to watch their son or daughter perform in a porn movie. Because that kind of porn-watching would result in incestuous feelings. And incest is a turn off for most people. A lot of parents have some difficulty dealing with sexual relationships of their children in general, whether it's related to porn or not. That's why mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law are famous for causing marriage problems among their adult children. And that's why adult children need to watch their parents and make sure their parents don't interfere too much in their sex-lives. Parents often aren't the best judges of their adult children's sex lives. And for this reason, most parents would do well to stay away from judging their adult children this way.

As long as I got to fuck her friends, I wouldn't care.
I would say its all about how the daughter lives the porn lifestyle. If the girl is smart, saves/invests her money, doesn't screw around with drugs, and is responsible monitoring her health for her sake and the sake of others, porn can be a short (sometimes long term), fun, lucrative career. Reading various pornstar's tweats, it seems most are doing just that. That mindset comes from being brought up in a good family. That being said if I had a daughter interested in porn, I would discourage her from getting in as most parents do. I certainly would not hate or disown her for it. I would just hope that she is being responsible and safe and that would be enough for me.

If I had a daughter doing porn, what it definitely would mean is that I'm old! This is one of those discussions that are purely hypothetical and everyone can say "yeah, I'd be cool with my daughter doing porn!" The same with, "I'd have no problem with my daughter bringing home a black guy!" For discussion purposes only and not to start a flame war, I'm calling bullshit on everyone. This is a true case of "not in my backyard." I've asked this question before on this topic, what happens when the daughter comes home and announces she's visiting the Gangland, or doing Cumfart Cocktails, or a Gokkun/Bukkake, or a White Trash Whore? Are the same accepting parents going to say, "Very cool honey, I'm so proud of you!" Are they going to take over managing her career so she doesn't do those things and she becomes the next big thing? These questions need to be answered also. But as I say, this topic is all hypothetical because in the BTS/interview section of the releases, when the topic of parents comes up, the overwhelming theme is that the father isn't in the picture at all.
Haha yeah...thats kinda the underlying question, isn't it. If you had a daughter or relative doing porn, would the curiousity get the best of you......lawl.
I've seen an interview with Ariel X who said she told all of her five brothers what sites to stay away from. In that way, it would actually suck for me if a relative of mine did porn.
To some degree, you're probably right. I'll go back to the stripper thing--instead of the porn thing--b/c that's what I have experience with and they're somewhat related. Even though I had two very close friends in the past who were dancers, and I had--myself--done some "roadie" (peon) work for them on occasion for shits and giggles, I wasn't happy that my little sister was secretly stripping. My parents--who were also okay with my friendships, etc.--weren't exactly thrilled with her doing it, either. There are some other angles that go into this, but the main concerns were safety issues, as opposed to morality issues. That said, I'd be lying if I didn't think to myself--"Why are you doing that when you just got out of college? Why are you putting yourself in that position when you could be using your education?". Further, having "worked" (volunteered for my then-friends) in a few of these clubs in different areas, I knew what types of things would likely be encountered in them (i.e., guys propositioning the dancers for sex, drug use by other dancers, potential stalkers, etc.) All of these things are a reality in the places that I "worked" (volunteered). Additionally, I saw what a long time as being a dancer could do. One of my (ex-)friends ended up on her feet at the end of it all, saved her money, etc. The other ended up with serious financial problems and with other problems that are stereotypical to the field. So...for me...it was / is disturbing that my sister is dancing. I have faith in her to make the right decisions, but I also know that it isn't the safest environment in the world, either.
My parents are supportive, but they share my feelings.
If your daughter becomes a garbage collector, does that mean you fucked up? How about a janitor or McDonald's worker? Would you feel better about her doing these jobs than as a porn actress?
Have you ever done those jobs yourself? This smacks of someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. I've worked fast food (for years) and it was utterly humiliating. I didn't even want to be seen in the uniforms and felt like an animal in a cage every time a customer came in. Edited by - randomprecision on 12/29/2009 4:13:34 PM
No it isn't. You think so because you haven't done it. There are soul crushing jobs out there everywhere and millions of people are languishing in them while we pretend that it's such an awful thing that a person would choose to have sex for money. The only thing that's awful about it is that many of them probably aren't ready to make such choices because their parents burned up the 18 years (or less) they had to teach them something pretending they'll never grow up.
some of the hazards of working in porn are the same as being an athlete. a rapid increase in income, then drugs and desperate moves to sustain a fading career.

Mothers are typically more liberal about this type of thing than fathers are. Although mothers may not be doing cartwheels over their daughters deciding to engage in any sexual practice, let alone doing porn, they're usually able to accept it and deal with it more easily than fathers are.
^Yeah...but then there are some parents, like Sunny Lane's, who seem cool with it and even manage their daughter's career.
[ invalid url ] I say more power to them, but--as you said--it would be very troublesome to me (personally) to actually see a close family member in a porno that I happened to pick up. As with my sis and her dancing, I could deal with it better in an abstract sense...but to have it in front of me in all its glory----not so much.
They're probably hoping to keep her from getting involved with the wrong people by managing her career. Emotionally difficult but maybe not the most stupid thing. (Haven't read the whole article)
I've been lurking just considering what two cents worth I'd put in, if any, on this. It's really difficult for me to say since I don't have a daughter or any children for that matter but I'd have to agree that as a mother I'd probably be a lot more OK than would be a father. The reason for this? I really don't know for sure but I'm guessing that as another female there are fewer unknowns for me than there would a male. Think about it. None of us undertake anything that we don't think we can handle and I know what a female deals with in managing her sexuality. As for the stripping, I really don't know any strippers that have lasted in that industry for any more than a few years but anecdotally it seems that girls who strip are inclined to be victimized more and have their lives become train wrecks more than do girls in porn. It is because there are more predators in that industry, that the girls who do that are at a more vunerable time in their lives? Who knows and maybe I'm wrong. I can tell you considering a third role in the sex business, that of escort, I would NEVER want my parents to know of what I've done (or still do) however my sister, a "normal" wife and mother is aware of it and very non-judgemental. Having said that, if one of my parents did have to know, it would be an easy choice that it would be my mother.
Yeah I think it would be really tough actually. I think I agree though safety would be the most important thing that concerned me. I wouldn't think of it as failure though, that is real hypocrisy. I respect a lot of porn actresses and hold very few prejudices against anyone in the business therefore if i had a daughter and she wanted to be involved in it, fair enough but I would keep away from hearing/seeing the details. But again too hard to say without being in the situation. Hypothetical scenarios mess with your head.

NO, some girls are just born slutty. Some parents do the best they can but their kids are still slutty. I would go insane if my daughter were to become a pornstar, even though i tried my best to teach her right. I would still blame myself. Edited by - lack100 on 12/30/2009 5:15:40 PM
Hm, I have a young niece and a little sister. If they were to go into porn I would certainly be upset with their decision. I think it's natural for that to be an initial reaction, and I think anyone else is bullshitting if they say otherwise. I'd be upset not because I would consider myself a failure or even them as failures, but because I know their personalities and it would seem very atypical of them. I would also be upset because I know of the misogyny and myriad dangers involved in the business. If, however, after a long conversation, they were able to convince me that they knew exactly what they were doing and why (i.e. not for money, taking the 'easy road,' etc.) then I would try to be understanding. Ultimately they would have my unconditional support and love as an aunt and sister. They also know that I have high expectations of them; so if they were to get into porn they'd have to be a bloody Belladonna!
How many of you would have a problem knowing your daughter is sexually active in general? I know people have a hard time with that in itself, and going into sex work, which is even further stigmatized, is obviously going to bring out similar sentiments. I feel like I've said this before somewhere, but honestly if my son or daughter (if I ever have a son or daughter) wishes to go into sex work, and they feel it is a wise career decision for themselves that they will find fulfilling, then I would support it. But finding any career that is always a wise decision and fulfilling is pretty hard to come by. There's also a huge difference between studios, personal goals, etc etc just as in any industry - if my daughter turned out to be the next Annie Sprinkle, I would be extremely proud.
I think your true merit as a parent would be revealed with how you treat your child once she is in the adult industry, whether you agree with it or not. Most people just have a mind of their own and it was nothing a parent did or did not do. A shitty parent would disown their daughter. A good parent would provide emotional support and guidance - making sure she's doing things like saving/investing her income, taking care of her health, etc.
If they were happy in the porn then I hope I'd be happy for them. People who actually enjoy their job and find it genuinely satisfying are a pretty rare breed. Most of the people I work with in my 'respectable' job are incessantly gloomy, and there've been a series of nervous breakdowns and suicide attempts over the last few years. Better my kid end up a contented porn performer than a clinically depressed pillar of the community. I don't think I'd consider myself a shitty parent if I felt it was their free choice to enter porn, and not because of a lack of other options. If they turned to porn as a last resort then I'd probably beat myself up about it, thinking I should have done more to improve their circumstances and help them find something better. Either way, I might be concerned about their safety and future, but I wouldn't lose any respect for them because of their choice. As a porn fan that would be utter hypocrisy.
I had to push carts at Wal-Mart for about 2 years (high school and some in college) before they had that fancy motorized car-thing to help. We could only come inside if there was lightning, and a few holidays I worked by my self. I wouldn't wish that on another. But again this is one of those questions where we can only speculate if it hasn't happened. -- But indeed there are many professions that aren't considered "prestigous", but we can't all be astronauts and cowboys now can we.
i would do more to support the companies i respect. a parent managing, or controlling, a young woman's career could be a train wreck hitting a minefield, so i would tread lightly there. however, if my daughter gets suckered into a shoot with an unscrupulous company, then i might do something irrational, such as vigilanteism. damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I think the more interesting question is what would your parents think if they found out that you like to visit porn sites and ask strangers questions that are quasi-incestuous. Would they be disturbed? Think it was normal? Or would they think something bad about you? Would they support you? Or do you not give a shit what your parents think about you?
It would depend on she approached it, I have dated strippers and to me its kind of the same context. Performing the act is not a problem for me, but being dependant on the profession can be a problem. Because when times are tough it forces you to do things you would not normally consent to, such as a 12 man anal creampie or something. I also think that if a girl becomes a stripper/porn star she should have a plan. Such as using it to put herself through college, or save up enough to buy a house then quit. Doing this stuff is fine when your a young crazy kid out on your own, but when your hitting thirty and life is still one continuous party it gets kinda pathetic.

This is so true, I actually knew family where all four of the daughters were sluts. The youngest who was 13 and her 13 year old friend propositioned me when I was 19. Didn't take them up on their offer.
I'd like to know what's wrong with being a female pornstar? Why all the judgement? Do you think, when the dads find out their son is a pornstar, that they're patting them on the back, high-fiving and letting loose with the 'atta-boys? "So, what's it like being paid to fuck all those beautiful girls"? "What's Jenna Haze really like"? And, of course, don't tell your mother. Seeing your children having sex is what's awkward. But, the "good parents" shouldn't be watching porn to start with, right? And, their good church-going, PTA-attending friends and neighbors, too. In all seriousness, if I were a parent, I'd be far more ashamed of my children if they were Wall St. credit default swap traders, predatory bankers and lenders, most lawyers, businesses who hire illegals so they can exploit them, etc. (you get the idea). One wonders if Rush Limbaugh's parents are proud of him? Wouldn't you be a failure as a parent, for having produced such an hateful personality (act or not)? In any event, why wouldn't a parent be proud of a "Jenna Haze" (even though I'm sure they don't want to actually watch her movies)?
I'm a father with daughters. I have no plans to financially support them all of their lives. That said, I've seen to their college educations and the funds are there if they want to pursue that. I think I'd be far more disappointed to see them make a choice to pursue porn thinking it is a "great way to earn money" because frankly, its not given the alternatives available to them. There are those who say "Wow, the money is fantastic" but I believe that is all relative. Fantastic compared to working at Burger King, sure. Fantastic compared to retail or some telemarketing cube-farm, sure. But those jobs are bottom rungs usually taken by people with little self-motivation to better their positions in the first place. But fantastic compared to career objectives that lead to lifetime increasing six-figure incomes....highly doubtful. Frankly, anyone who says that porn is a great way to earn money likely has few options for long term career growth in the first place -or- are using it to fund college so that they can pursue OTHER career objectives. So for me, the question is more one of long-term planning. Once you do porn, like it or not, you are making a conscious decision to not pursue entire industries in your future. Teaching? Forget it. Politics/public offices? Forget it. Rising to become a CEO or other high-profile executive? Likely not...unless it is in the porn business itself. You are making a conscious decision to "screw the system" and pursue a career based entirely on your looks and your willingness to take shots of cum to the face on film for the masturbatory pleasure of others. Personally, I think thats a really short-sighted decision. I understand why some make it, but statistically, porn performers are a tiny part of the overall working class sector. And given the unbelievably high turnover of performers in this industry, it is not one that readily supports long-term career growth objectives. There are so few that make a career out of it, with the majority moving on to "better things." If porn was so great, why do so many leave the industry after just being there 2-3 years? So if my daughters, given the options available to them, chose that route....I'd feel I failed to teach her strategic thinking and common sense. Because in their case, porn would be a really poor decision.
