Hello all!

In response to questions I've seen in the past, I put together an article concerning issues with the use of non-enhanced 1.66:1 aspect ratio material on widescreen displays.

I would be interested in hearing opinions on it, especially technical critiques (I hate posting faulty information).

I hope it's OK to post links to external sites (this one is a hobby site that does not compete with ADT in any way). If not, I apologize in advance.

Click here to bring up the article.

Thanks, RD

kenny62,

I can't do a technical critique, I'm not that much of a technophobe.

However I liked the article particularly because you included shots of the differences, and you could see the difference in resolutions, or in some cases the cropping of the picture that may occur.

A Divx fan site???? Why would anyone want to run a fan site for the most useless piece of shit marketing idea (and attempt to destroy the DVD market) ever devised???

The only good things about Divx ware (A) that it cost Circuit City over $100,000,000 and (B) the president of Circuit City his job.

Out to destroy DVD? Not very likely, seeing as the huge XXX market was something Divx would not touch.

Jim Taylor, author of the DVD FAQ, had this to say:

That being said, the new thrust of my hobby site is DVD and home theater, hence the 1.66 writeup.

The fact that it failed miserably doesn't change the facts of its intent.

As far as I'm concerned, the whole concept of your site is based on faulty information (that Divx wasn't a useless piece of shit), so who cares whether your accurate about 1.66:1 or not (especially when Divx was 100% anti -widescreen).

Which brings to mind the very first title to spin up with the widescreen TV I bought back in March of 2000 (when they were boutique items), the 16x9-enhanced 1.85:1 OAR version of Dragnet on, yup, you guessed it, Divx. ;)
