Or, of course, the early Andy Warhol / Paul Morrissey stuff like FUCK and Blow Job.
Shouldn't Joe Dallesandro be included in any round-up of crossover people? The guy went from being blown in loops to working with Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Mann...and even found time to get name-checked in a Lou Reed classic along the way.
Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City's the place where they say,
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said, Hey Joe
Take a walk on the wild side...

OK
For example do you know any great model became a great actress (out of porn)?
I remember only Jennifer Lopez.

Why is it 'retarded' to discuss acting ability in porn?
There isn't much, true. I think most professional porn is junk. But when a porn performance turns you on much more than watching a couple of horses fucking in a pasture, it is because of the genuine and entusiastic enjoyment by the people on screen. It may be real enjoyment, but, with professional actors, it is likely to be acting ability that makes the difference.
It would be impossible to really be excited and enthused (i.e. horny)about seex every time when you do it for a living day after day. Most of the time, that is exactly what it loks like-- a couple of bored, distracted strangers going through the motions for a paycheck. The mere fact that males almost invariably have to play with themselves like 12 year olds before they can come testifies to this.
Discussing acting ability is not retarded in this forum. Whether you realize it or not, it's what you are discussing most often.

That grass over on the other side there. Yes...there! Is it greener?
From the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
The most successful actors, producers, and directors may have extraordinarily high earnings but for others, because earnings may be erratic, many supplement their income by holding jobs in other fields.
Median hourly earnings of actors were $11.61 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $8.47 and $22.51. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $7.31, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $51.02. Median hourly earnings were $16.82 in performing arts companies and $10.69 in the motion picture and video industry. Annual earnings data for actors were not available because of the wide variation in the number of hours worked by actors and the short-term nature of many jobs, which may last for 1 day or 1 week; it is extremely rare for actors to have guaranteed employment that exceeded 3 to 6 months.
Hmmmmm....that last sentence makes me think about another industry.

Those actresses listed are most assuredly hot (that's why they were models first, duh) but I only see two names, possibly only ONE, that I'd dare call "great."

I agree with you. Think very few models, actresses or actors fit the description "great". However his example was Jennifer Lopez so I just ignored the great part and just went with models who were then actresses.

since when did acting ability have anything to do with Hollywood success? there are plenty of stars who have little acting ability but very high profile. plenty of success stories that don't involve intelligence.
not that i am saying Sasha lacks acting ability or intelligence. i am only saying neither are required to make it in Hollywood
i think there is always going to be a stigma attached to porn so there will always be barriers to porn performers.
but if you look at the latest pics of Sasha i posted in her thread, from when she was at the Tribeca Film Festival, she looks quite comfortable in the non-porn world and people look comfortable with her
lex5555, whether you like it or not, her stock is rising. she is doing cool things outside of porn and it looks good on her

If Sasha does start to succeed in the mainstream there will be a lot of pressure to stop doing porn. That's when things will get interesting.

^ What are the odds of Sasha being a porn lifer anyway? If she can get a foothold in mainstream entertainment, at least she'll be more interesting than Lohan/Spears and their ilk. Besides, the lines are blurring more and more between porn personalities and mainstream, as more and more people own up to watching smut and recognizing the players. The idea that doing porn is the kiss of death for careers becomes more antiquated and less true everyday. I think if Sasha truly has the talent and ambition, she could penetrate deeper into Hollywood than anyone before her.

another interesting complication with all the mainstream attention
it seems Sasha cancelled on an interview and photo shoot with the Boston Globe
so the Boston Globe entertainment blogger makes a kind of bitchy post link here
but the kicker is the blogger made sure to include Sasha's real name. i know Sasha has not been happy about that in the past. however it is on imdb.com, and i wonder if other mainstream media are going to include it when they write about Sasha. thoughts?

They'd probably call it investigative journalism. Sasha irritates them. They're looking for mud to throw, but what mud do you throw at a pornstar? Say everything she had to say was unprintable, apart from stating that her parents aren't happy with her career, then make sure to add to that unhappiness by including her real name. The whole blog is celebrity gossip shit, real newspaper or not.

I think and certainly hope that eventually the hypocritical public condemnation of porn stars for how they make their living by the self-appointed moral guardians of church, corporation, and the media, most of whom, the success of the porn industry and human nature suggest, go home at night after a hard day of moral outrage and unwind with a good wank using the very porn they make their living condemning, will one day largely disappear. Wow, that's a long sentence!
What's good is that it is moving in that direction. Ms. Grey proves that talent is talent wherever it is used and from whatever source it comes. I hope she continues to give us the enjoyment of that talent both in mainstream and adult film.
Anyway, she's to be praised not only for her talent, ability, and allure, but for the courage, dignity, and loyalty she has shown in embracing her origin in porn by continuing in the porn business, rather than condemning it, excusing it, or trying to ignore it, which would have been far easier and safer for her to do. She is dispelling the myth that porn actors are all overpaid, no talent bimbos and goons, and is taking porn a giant step closer to what I think will be a final, overdue, acceptance as a legitimate, perfectly respectable entertainment business.

That is an abhorrent article which is clearly intended to make her look like a fool "many of her answers were unprintable" and to discredit her reputation, with the comment involving her parents. The whole piece reeks of an obnoxious journalism student writing, what they believe, is a quality op-ed piece.
The angry old woman in me is thinking of writing them a scathing email.

If one assumes that the typical well-heeled john is no more gullible than the average moviegoer, it should be obvious that it takes a huge amount of talent to provide the "girlfriend experience" to random dudes in a convincing and satisfying way.
A great escort is a great actress -- maybe an even better actress than a great porn performer. The acting chops of most Hollywood actresses pale in comparison to both.
Soderbergh is a genius at casting.

The press junket this week for The Girlfriend Experience, has been long but very enjoyable.
The film's pr team didn't schedule Friday press until Thursday evening, and I had no objection. I got about four hours of sleep the night before ( still hadn't adjusted to time change) yet each and every interview went well on Friday morning...until this guy asked to take a picture of me for the paper. He was upset that The Herald printed a picture of me in Friday's paper (from the q and a at Brandeis) so he got competitive, and asked to take a photo of me for the paper. I said no, because I had very little makeup on, and they didn't ask before hand- had I known I would have come prepared (as I always do). There was never a "scheduled photo shoot" in the first place. We had plenty of original press photos to supply that he could have had "first rights" to, but he declined. He had two opportunities to get photos, at Brandeis, and from us; instead he called off the interview.
On another note, it is quite obvious that he "could" have printed 90% of what I talked about, you can see for yourself by viewing the video that was filmed at Brandeis...on Youtube.
Had this been::insert mainstream actress here:: he would have never attempted to take such liberties with me, and most of all would have respected where "said person" was coming from.
In cases like these, the best thing to do is ignore it. People like this just want more fuel for their fire, pay no respect by even uttering their name, or source. Thanks.

The first nationally circulated newspapers in the new United States were created for the express purpose of slandering poltical opponents. Jefferson set up one Phillip Freneau in business to call George Washinton a senile old coot who was a puppet of the Federalists. The Federalists, in turn, paid James Callendar to dig up the Sally Hemmings business (Jefferson fatherd children with a black mistress, Sally Hemmings). Lincoln was in his own time portrayed as a coward and a babboon.
They don't put Phillip Freneau's or James Callendar's pictures on our money.
And so forth. Since they began, all of the media have routinely selected, distorted, omitted, and invented facts to serve the political goals of whoever had them in his pocket or simply to sell more papers. But the quality and achievements of the people have always exposed the cruelties and slanders of the media for the comically outlandish absurdities that they are.
So, congratulations Ms. Grey! Having been the victim of malice, rudeness, and lies by the media places you in a pretty nice club, right up there with Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and all the really indispensible and interesting people of our History, from most of the Founding Fathers to Paul Newman. And your courage and poise makes you as deserving of the honor as any other of its members.

Either get prepared to start paying for on-line access to newspapers or get prepared to find something else to put in the bottom of your bird cage because newspapers are doomed if people can get the same information from the same source for free over the web. This is the same premise as the old saying involving milk and a cow.

That didn't really bother me much. It's not like that sort of thing is top secret information.
It was the tone of the piece, which was both demeaning and insulting, that offended me. The "writer" clearly has no respect for actors and actresses in hardcore films and has used this little article to express his dislike in a condescending way.

Sasha seems like a very determined ambitious lady. I think if anyone has a good chance she does. However I have no doubts in my mind about her talent its just Hollywood's acceptance and even more the people accepting her into mainstream Hollywood roles.
I hope you succeed Sascha. I will buy another one of your DVDs to help support your ambitions.
However I always thought Aurora Snow would of made a good go at trying mainstream.
