I dont get where all this hate comes from. I have heard a review or two about this movie Sasha is in and they do call her "stunningly beautiful" which is something. Its good to try to be more than you are right now why would I want to discourage that?' Besides we are all here because we love porn and we love to watch girls like Sasha onscreen....and in particular we think her ass is HEAVEN.
Sasha Grey will change acting all around, with the release of The Girlfriend Experience. The way that she conducts herself in film and out of it only adds more belief that if anyone can pull this off, it's Sasha Grey. I was coming up with a title to start a thread like this, with a bit less of a negative aspect, but someone beat me to it. Sasha will take Hollywood.
This argument has been had many times over and I don't think I'm adding anything new by saying that no, it's not "necessary," but isn't abhorrent either. Whenever anyone changes their name for whatever reason, they risk their actual identity leaking out. As long as it's not used for ill, I see no problem with it.
Actually, I have a new opinion, formed this evening: porn stars are NOT actors. They are sexual performers, somewhere between athletes and stuntmen. A Golden opportunity! But at the tryouts, many of them can barely read. None of them can pronounce "Montague", nor even recognize that a capital letter heading the word suggests that it's a name of something. None of them but one memorize the piece (they spend too much time goofing around). And none of them have any non-porn acting experience. Now one would think that porn agents would jump at this chance to get their clients on this mainstream show and give the real actors among their clients to shine. But no. They send these people who don't really care about the craft of acting. Sasha goes and says something like she wants to jump at the opportunity to do a "real play." You live in LA, dear. Anywhere you spit you will hit a theatre. Yet you never got to fulfill your lifelong dream of being in a play? Please don't take us for fools. You are an independent contractor in charge of your own schedule who makes a lot of money: IDEAL conditions for being an actor on the side. A 10-year-old can find his way into a real play in the Valley, as many small theatres as there are there. I guess from the outside, one would suppose "oh these women dance nightly at their stripclubs and they've all acted in porn scenes. Surely they're at least double threats for acting and dancing?" No. On this show, porn is proved to be a job for the undisciplined and flighty where the actors don't have to know how to read and the dancers can't pick up a simple dance.
I'm glad to hear SS is doing something fun, not just pumping out Oceans 47. I haven't had a chance to catch the movie, hopefully soon. It is going to play in arthouse theatres right?
Did they have to perform "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare at a West End theatre? That's definitely not an appropriate task for acting novices. It's no wonder that the girls failed.
Just finished reading the article on Sasha in RS. I've come to this conclusion. Sasha is just the "Flavor of the Month" porn star that presents herself as being intelligent or on the ball and wants to branch into mainstream. IMHO, the only reason Sasha would even be granted an audition is because she does porn and the casting person figures she's good for a quick one. I've read numerous articles on porn girls doing some mainstream work, and the bottom line is it always comes down to nudity being required. The director hires the porn girl because he doesn't need the BS of a mainstream actor about the nudity that is oh so crucial to the plot. The funny thing is, even though it is a "mainstream" part, the porn girl usually plays a stripper, hooker or porn star, or other closely related profession. It's not like her credit is, "Dead Rocket Scientist in the Shower."

First of all, I think it’s highly offensive that you judge the entire industry from ONE reality show. Reality TV is not real. I know plenty of women in this industry who are literate, but it’s a waste of my time to get into a battle of who has a bigger sack of balls contest. There have been a handful of women from the adult industry who have garnered “legit” roles, Ashlyn Gere, Traci Lords, etc. and didn’t do a half bad job. Shit, I really enjoyed Space Above and Beyond. Secondly, I’d like to know where you received this certain piece of information: Sasha goes and says something like she wants to jump at the opportunity to do a "real play." I started in theatre at the age of 12; I’ve done plenty of “real plays”. Would I take the opportunity to be in another stage play? Yes. I don’t know what bone you have to pick with me, but I’d suggest you’d get some sort of source to cite this “quote” of yours before you hypothesize on what “my lifelong dream” is. You’re entitled to your own opinion, but it’s pretty lame to fire off when you don’t have your information correct.
Some people only want you to be one thing Sasha. The minute you try to be something else they crucify you for it. You've just accomplished something that no other girl in the history of the business ever has; you starred in a "real" movie with a "real" A-list director. Admittedly, I don't think I'm bright enough to grasp the art house vibe of the movie but nonetheless, I thought you did a great job. There was no gratuitous nudity and you didn't play a stereotype. That alone sets you apart from every other girl in porn who ever "crossed over". Congrats.
It has gotten some good reviews. I don't know why people here (of all places) want to tear Sasha down? I think it's great to see one of our own succeeding!

Oh please! Who's being naive here? If you truly believe that, you're the one who knows dick about the movie business. The fact is that there is a 95% unemployment rate in the acting community in general. Casting agents know exactly what kind of power they hold regardless of for whom they cast. Soderbergh hired a porn star to place a high priced hooker in movie called "The Girlfriend Experience." To say that Soderbergh or anyone else is above getting a little something for a role in a movie is like saying the President of the United States would never get a little something under the desk with an intern. Tom Cruise had Nicole Kidman cast in Days of Thunder because he liked the way she looked naked in Dead Calm and he wanted to meet her. Spielberg married Kate Capshaw also from his movies. What would make Soderbergh any difference? His opening line would be, "Hey, I do Oscar winning movies and I know Pitt and Clooney! Get naked." He could be banging girls hourly for the next 10 years on that line alone. Here's a excerpt taken from the LA Times with a quote by Soderbergh: Still, he cops to a certain degree of exploitation. Soderbergh gave Grey the lead role in the film (which opens Friday) fully intending to milk her X-rated fame for all it is worth. "I was very much counting on the fact that the interest in her would be greater than the interest in the movie," Soderbergh said. "We would be drafting off her notoriety rather than vice versa. I needed her. That's no different than getting Brad Pitt to be in your movie, albeit in a different context." So again, who's being naive? Certainly not me!

Sasha, I want you to have a successful mainstream movie career. I want "The Girlfriend Experience" to be a hit. I'm glad you starred in this movie. You shouldn't be pigeonholed just because of your porn career. I hope that other porn stars will get the same opportunity as you. By the way, I have not seen "The Girlfriend Experience" yet, but I hope I will someday.

Start with the first 2 sentences of the excerpt. He cops to exploiting her to sell the movie. He freely admits to exploiting her. Just because he doesn't say, "I pawned her off on a few money sources to get financing!" or "someone tapped her on the couch to get the part" doesn't mean someone along the way didn't get a shot.
