Things regarding what is OK and what is not in Canada are not written in stone.

I have noticed recently that regular video stores carry the uncut US version of DVDs for rental. Before, there used be the blue label of censorship printed on each DVD to tell the consumers that certain DVD had been censored/approved by the fucking film review board. I recently rented Rocco's True Anal Stories 22 DVD in its original format without Valentine Video logos and it was in its full glory.

The Canadian Film Board approval process is a joke. I have yet to understand the rationale for what they do, and what they deem appropriate. I am in Canada, and the titles we get are shit. They are almost all cut, many are without any audio and they arrive about 5-6+ months after they are released. I really feel they do not make objective decisions, but subjective and "personal" calls on this stuff. Many titles I have purchased from the US, then compared to the Canadian cut versions, could not for the life of me understand why they cut what they did???!!!!! That is why I will continue to buy my DVDs from the US and have them shipped here. It is a waste of our taxpayers money.

Customs enforcement in these matters tends to vary with the point of entry into Canada. Some have been known to pass material on the banned list. Of course, savvy distributors may use laxer points of entry.

The other form of censorship is provincial film classification boards/branches. Again, matters vary from province to province. Here in BC, they hire 21 year old film students to screen the porn, and they might pass anything short of golden showers or punching people in the face.

The other factor in screwed up Canadian copies is the greed or laziness of distributors. For VHS, vids were edited so they could fit on a less expensive length of tape. One of Anabolic's previous distributors chopped tapes in half and marketed them separately. Canadian distributor DVDs have no extras aside from advertising crap. My guess is that it is probably too expensive to put them on.

Kaytel is probably the best Canadian distributor, as about 95% of their titles appear completely intact (aside from extras)

Hey Kafka,
Thanks for the info. I live in BC too and did not know who screened the videos. You are right about Kaytel being solid. I have noticed that MileHigh has started to put out tons of shitty comp tapes, using scenes from RLD vids etc and making new videos, but not calling them comps. This is stupid, but I guess makes money catching the part time porn watcher who may not know the ins and outs of the industry. For me it is an insult, but our selection is limited so what can you do. Interestingly, I order many videos from Video Canada, who is based in Quebec. They have a pretty good selection and the stuff is not cut. Another interesting thing I have noticed is on alot of BC titles I rent, if you turn the disc over it is purple, if you know what I mean. Wondered how they can do it?
Cheers,

All Canadian distributor DVDs are duplicated in Canada (hopefully) under licence of the producers. The purple backs are either 1)because MH is too cheap to reproduce the normal DVD back, or 2)some subdistributor is bootlegging.

I'm in BC too, and in the past 6 months or so there have been a lot of copied DVD's being rented that don't even have a label on them. I have no idea what the deal with that is.

So much stuff gets cut out of almost everything I rent. For example, all anal cream pies and squirting are cut. They even release a movie like Ass Cream Pies 3, which I recently rented, and all the endings where they push the cum out are cut. I mean, why even release movies like that if you're cutting out the whole theme? They just want $$$ and don't care about the consumer at all. Occasionally you can get lucky and one will slip by with some good stuff left in, but it's extremely rare.

I buy a lot of my DVD's online these days, like Cum Fart Cocktails, Cum Filled Asshole Overload, Squirtwoman, etc. Good luck finding any of those here.

Just recently, I saw a tape on the shelves here called Young Tight Asses. It has the Red Light District logo right on the front, but I can't find any reference to it anywhere. Mile High released it, and I'm wondering if RLD even knows about this DVD which is being passed off as their product?!

One thing is for sure. Those comps aren't in RLD's catalogue.

I also saw that Young Tight Asses in the stores. They have literally used old scenes to make a "new" movie. This is fine if it a compilation, but they don't say that, they pawn it as something else. Wait until you see how much more crap like this is coming to BC. They must be trying to make a quick buck. I also wonder if RLD is aware of this? I guess I'll just keep on buying from the US, it has cost more than renting, but I get what I want. MH should know that they will push their biggest customers away by doing this stuff?!

As far as "unauthorized" Canadian compilations, I'm assuming that when a US company (RLD for example) sells Canadian distribution rights to a Canadian company (Mile High for example) those rights include the Canadian company being able to use the footage involved in any way they choose. While this practice is misleading, I don't think that the original US producer could do much about it.
