Why are porn scenes so damn long?

She was in the first scene with Steve Holmesa and another guy. It was a great scene as the sex was really nasty and there was alot of dirty talk, which I love. It was obvious that the performers really love to fuck. However after about 15 minutes of various acts and switching of positions, I'm starting to think, when are these guys gonna bust a nut? The scene went on for another 10 minutes to the point where it got boring. I like to wait til the end of the scene to bust my own nut, but I just couldn't wait that long. This seems to be a new trend in porn over the last few years and I don't like it. Maybe it's because I started watching porn in the 70's when sex scenes were interwoven into the story and 10 minutes was a long scene. I love watching the different positions but I lose interest when it goes on and on, even if the sex is hot. By the way, I will definitely look for Arianna again, she is really awesome. [Link]

To increase profit take the better scenes and carve them up onto a few compilation discs later on. Any scenes that aren't recycled this way can be used as bonus content for future releases. It doesn't make me happy but it makes business sense. [Link]

I attribute it to the fact that most of these films are just back to back fuck scenes, and there's no plot or dialog to fill the time between them. Click to expand In the eighties and most of the nineties, when features ruled, the general format was five scenes, about 90 minutes. This VHS would cost $40-$60. Gonzo has always been about two hours, most have about 6 scenes, even then. Sometimes it was three long scenes. I think that the length of scenes is about right. Many times the tease could be done (much) better and certainly longer. I still want to see more footage of Taylor Rain walking in that short skirt in Flesh Hunter 5 . [Link]

Thus long scenes give move value or the appearance of such depending on ones perspective. Consider the 140 video it could be 8 17 minute scenes or 17 8 minute scenes (or realistically 4 35 minute scenes) many fans would prefer the later but talent cost would be lower on the former. Hopefully insiders with chime in but I think scenes are paid per scene not based on time (within reason). If the issue is scenes being longer than you want to watch you can skip parts, but if it is value you just have to accept it. [Link]

If they're not good scenes - they could be 5 minutes long and they'd still be too long for me to sit through. On the other hand I watch a lot of 70's-early 80's porn too and those scenes are too short- there has to be a happy medium. Maybe somewhere between 15 - 20 minutes for most types of scenes. [Link]

Not only should you be able to easily determine the length of each scene, but you should have sub-chapters within each scene as well. So, I don't see why it should be difficult to make the scene as short as you want. With subchaptering on all dvds you would be right and I would be much happier whilst whacking. [Link]

Unfortunately that doesn't always work and you end up unsatisfied with the scenes (hence my reluctance to spend much money on it, and the rental inventories around here are terrible!) Picking up a movie with more scenes is preferable just because of the odds. I am a big fan of "best ofs". My thinking is that they are my best shot at finding more quality scenes on one disc. But then studios will include scenes totally unrelated to the spotlighted star... but that's another rant for a different thread. [Link]

Still, I'm a regular consumer of the one-girl compilations. It is a good way to go if you're playing the odds--> 6 of the scenes might suck, but if the other 4 are good, it's like you've still at least broken even, because you achieved your goal of getting a good look at the performer. And it lessens the risk of getting a normal movie of hers and discovering to your horror that both of her scenes are fucked up because in one her hair is suffering from a nasty perm and in the orgy scene she's wearing a mask! The limitations of studio rights you mentioned is one problem and who is picking the 'best' scenes is another. Hopefully the porn studios will get it right some day and improved sales will promote better compilations. I really think the industry needs some standardization... not of everything, just little things like consistent reviews, better talent indexing (on the box and web sites) and fewer pseudonyms. (not asking for much eh? ) I'm hoping the "Private Life of" series is worthwhile, there's a few of those I'd like to pick up. [Link]
