Can anybody here help me out by recommending some titles and clearing-up a few points/observations for me?

I have a slight problem with the majority of both hardcore and softcore pornography that is being made. The problem is that of the on-screen sex never being performed “in character” and without any narrative set-up for the sex scenes that creates tension, suspense, excitement, an investment in the characters that makes the film ‘erotic’ because the sex is in context to the story. A plot devise that gives the story or scene an 'edge'. Good examples of this done pretty well in softcore are a few of the Shannon Tweed films and Greg Dark’s soft films like Mirror Images, Undercover, Secret Games etc.

There never seems to be reason why people have sex in porn films! I know it seems an odd point, but it gets boring when you know exactly what’s going to happen next in nearly every scene. For example if a scene opens with two guys and a girl sitting in a living room, no matter what the story is you know there’s probably going to be a DP featuring these performers even if they have never met before. Or things like condoms being used by performers playing married couples etc. I’d rather see half the sex at the expense of more set-up.

The only films I’ve seen off the top of my head that do this a bit are, Taboo, Vista Valley PTA, Misty Beethoven, Eruption, Every Woman has a Fantasy and The Devil in Miss Jones.

I guess what I’m asking is what other films can anyone recommend that bother to create tension and suspense etc. A reason for people to have sex other than the obvious. Themes of mild coercion, being blackmailed into sex, undercover cops going too far, sexual awakenings, domination, conflicted adultery etc. Anything that creates an emotional investment in the characters and a vaguely plausible set-up to why people are having sex in most of the scenes?
