Inspired by a comment of SexShopGirl's in the Tenga thread.
I suppose this could be a poll, but it feels more appropriate here.
I'm always curious how many people ask for advice at shops. On one level I think it's fantastic. I love the idea of having the local sex shop girl as pharmacist/friend whom you could discuss this stuff with. So what's new and interesting? Swapping feedback and advice. You have a certain connection with this person that's both professional and intimate, yet unaffected by personal conflicts. I.e. if you tell your gf you're interested in stories and magazines about older women deflowering young guys, she may take it as a personal rebuke, rather than just your safely feeding some frothy but meaningless fantasies.
In reality (and I mentioned this to Pagoda in another thread, who also worked in a sex shop) I want to be invisible. I want to come in, pick up what I want, and get out with a minimum of interaction because even though I may be buying a gift, or something for a non-sexual purpose, or whatever--I always have the feeling that I'm being judged (he's buying a Fleshlight and huge-tit magazine on a Saturday night. How sad) and I just don't want it. Even though it's irrational.
The best thing they could do at a sex shop would be to have a self-checkout.

Well I gotta say I think this is a cool idea for a topic. Really I do.
Because the things you've said about judging and privacy are so true. I think for most of the human population sex is a pretty private thing. Even those that broadcast it and throw it out for the world to see, choose to do so for their own private personal reasons.
When I have customers asking for advice, it's usually about wanting to be a better lover or product information. Sometimes the two go hand in hand.
I always make sure to let them know that I am not a medical professional (dental assisitng doesnt count unless they need CPR) but that I'm always happy to suggest ideas that work for me. I always try to get an idea of what they are trying to accomplish before I get a spending range. I do not work on commission but some people assume I do so I only talk money when it's time to shop. Sometimes I actually have to guid them into the toy room or DVD area because they get so embarrassed.
I really don't have a problem witth anything people buy in my shop. I hear the 'it's a gag gift for a friend" alot but really, we don't care. I mean there are so many reasons people need the toys and other things we carry. Women buy Ben Wa balls and vibrators all the time for legitimate medical reasons. Guys sometimes need help too and we sell cock rings and penis pumps for ED issues probably as much as we do for other reasons. I DO NOT JUDGE!
I had a guy come in once that bought 6 bottles of Sex Grease and a king sized vinyl sheet. What assumptions can you make from that?
He was going to use it for a erotic total body massage. They were gonna coat themselves in the lube and rub all over each other. Doesnt that sound like fun? I did tell him he might consider keeping plenty of towels handy incase someone needed to trek it to the bathroom. But the point is, I learn from my customers too.
I have a couple guys that come in every week and the one guy will say "Hey" the other guy won't even talk to you or look at you and if there are too many people in the shop they will leave and come back later. I kinda feel sorry for them because I know something has probably shamed them about their sexuality somewhere down the line and that's gotta suck.
I've been in a "people person" type job in one form or another since I was 16 (unless you count horses as people) and I can usually tell if someone wants to be left to shop in peace, if they are overwhelemd by the store (and that does happen), if they're excited to be there or when they want to ask something and are a bit shy about it. So it's easy for me to know who to leave be and who to give extra attention to. Some customers can be very demanding but they are usually the big spenders. Some people you can be very frank with and others you have to be very cautious about what you say.
Personally, I dont care what you buy or what you do with it after it leaves my store. I do like geting feedback from customers about the products we sell. It's also nice when a customer asks for me by name because they got results with previous advice I've given. However the company I work for is an independently owned and operated franchise of Adam & Eve. We have a very strict policy that what happens in the store, stays in the store. If I see you at the grocery store I might say "hi", but I can lose my job if I ask you about the porn you bought last week.
Most of our customers compliment us on the fact that our store is clean and bright and nice to shop in compared to the dens of sin in the sharkier neighborhoods in the city. We doon't have bars on the windows, you can actually look at the toys if you bring them to the counter and we do not have sticky floors. LOL!
Like any other retail chain we have issues with shop lifting and things like that. But for the most part the city we are in wanted us here. We've been open almost two years now and boss lady is still paying the bills. It takes a long time for a small company to build even when they are associated with a multi-billion dollar corporation.
I only make a bout half of what I made as a dental assistant but I love my job!
I guess my top questions would be.....
Do you have anything that will make me more/less sensitive?
What is a good beginner vibrator to start out with?
What is a good beginner anal toy to start out with?
Can you reccomend a good lube? I've had surgery/baby recently and things just aren't the same.
These two toys look the same. What's the difference between this brand and that brand?

I think the judgement is normal. Maybe judging is too harsh a word. But if you're standing in a sex shop and you see some guy looking at a blow-up doll, you're going to imagine him naked and on top of it (I will, anyway). If you see a woman looking at a see-through teddy, you're going to imagine her naked and wearing it (I will, anyway). You may burp up a little of your lunch, but it's going to happen.
In reality I think the clerks are probably bemused. But the irrational part is the one that rules at the time.
One time I was in a drug store buying condoms and KY. It was Halloween and they had some rubber rats, about a foot tall, for decoration. It was a rat-shaped rubber skin with foam rubber inside. I thought it was fun and picked one up. And as I was in the checkout line, I could imagine the clerk thinking to himself, OMG, he's going to fuck that rat when he gets home. Because that's what I would have thought if I'd been running the register.
The rational part of me doesn't care, but the irrational part services my anxieties. There's a local sex shop I like that I visit once or twice a year, and there's a nice girl who clerks it, but I don't want to talk to her. The devil part of me says I'll walk by her in Home Depot one day and she'll frantically text a friend, that's the guy who bought Shemale Shotguns, Pump-Action Magnum Edition.
But I like the idea of sharing info. It's why, over the years, I've written here about various adventures and misadventures with various toys and stuff. Here I can be candid and make jokes and shrug it off; in real life a lot of it is embarassing and I'm not exactly proud of it. So I hope someone (lurkers, likely) will get something out of it. They'll learn from my mistakes and know what I had wanted to know and had to find out the hard way. Or at least they'll be warned in advance of things and will be mentally prepared.
Maybe it's generational. When I was growing up, we didn't talk about this. We joked about it, but it always oblique. Masturbation in any form was something other people did, but we never admitted we did it ourselves.

It's funny you mention the shop girl. I've never really considered myself super attractive. But I do get hit on at work by some of the male customers. Believe it or not, some of them I'd consider if my husband and I were into swinging.
I'm in a small city and I think for the most part I have a good customer base. Most of the people that come in are pretty respectful and decent people. You get a few that are always trying to get something for nothing.
People do worry what we think of them. It doesnt matter what age either. I have young people that worry about seeing co-workers or friends in the store and then I have older and elderly customers that worry too.
What it comes down to for me is a) the customer is getting what they want b) they are of age to buy it c) they've thanked me for helping them find it and d) I've made money for my store.
The rest of it falls into me having a really cool, fun job and I get paid for it!
So, talk to the shop girl. You just never know......

I've never had a problem with Sex Store Advice so to speak. When I started buying porn, be it mags or DVDs, even a VHS once. I've always had a 'fuck it' mind set and never really given a shit what people have thought, if anything at all.
There was a time once when I went into a store and felt uncomfortable because there where 3 girls in their 20s (as am I) who were giggling at the toys, and the jaws hit the ground when they saw me, just in a way that they felt they were busted or something. They actually bought a few bits and pieces and chances are they used them on each other.... I just wanted some porn.
My most recent purchase, my Teagan Fleshlight, I went to 3 stores in 3 separate parts of town to track it down and all the shop workers were really helpful.
Bottom line is, being a customer, if I'm buying a toy like a fleshlight or an anal themed DVD I always think to myself "I know they've had more fucked up people than me in here".

I find it hard to pay the sex shop premium. The prices are at least double the online price, and since I'm never sure if I'll like something, I find it difficult to risk the money on something I won't like.
Last time I was hoping they'd have magazines, but their selection is paltry. Once upon a time you used to be able to get all the regular stuff plus a ton of oddball titles for fetishes. Now it seems like it's down to the last 3 issues of Playboy.

I haven't bought magazines in years, when I did that had easily close to 100 titles, when I was wandering around the other day there would've been, maybe 30.
I know what you mean about risking the money. I've owned 3 fake pussys in my life, including my fleshlight and the first 2 where SHIT!

Which were the shitty ones?
A quick run-down of what I've owned (best of my memory):
Throbber: first thing I bought. Looks like a large bicycle handle-bar grip. Made of latex or something like that--a flexible plastic. Smelled like a pool toy. Smooth inside. Horrible. I was a teen and I couldn't get off in it. That's how bad it was.
Something whose name I can't remember. Looked like a mutant cross between a squash and an avacado. Same material as ^^^. Had raised nodules inside. With lube you just glided over them. Without lube it was like fucking sandpaper. It had two vibrators, one on the far end and one at the opening, supposedly for your balls. I found out vibes don't do anything for me, but it was fun playing with the vibes because I could get an interference pattern going between them and run it up and down my dick. Didn't get me off, but it was goofy fun. Another piece of crap toy.
Something else whose name I can't remember. Looked like a giant centipede. Had a vibe in the far end. Had a pump so you could pump it up to squeeze you. Smooth inside. Good idea, didn't work.
Fleshlight. Early version with smooth interior. First thing I owned that actually did the job. Thank God for modern materials. My main problem was that the smooth interior didn't hold lube because you'd plunge it out, so I was continually breaking rythmn at bad times to add lube. The advice to go over the interior with a cheese-grater helped but not enough. I'd consider another one with a textured interior.
Another thing whose name I can't remember (I think I reviewed it on SexToyTalk.com, though). It was purple and made out of a super-stretchy jello-like stuff. The interior was molded from a machine bolt about the diameter of a pencil. Thought "there's no way I'll fit in this thing." I could. It was incredibly stretchy, but it didn't like to be stretched, so it was very difficult to stay inside it. The outside was smooth (the visuals looked like fucking a can of cranberry sauce) so if you had any lube at all, you couldn't hold onto it and it would literally fly off me. As a masturbator it was worthless, but I got some entertainment launching the thing off my cock.
Cassidey Pussy & Anus. Similar material to the Fleshlight (I can't keep them straight. I think it's UR3). Still have it but don't use it often, for reasons mentioned elsewhere. It's got a little bit of texture inside and holds lube. It's easy to clean. The bottom is flat and it stays put. Just about the right height on the desktop. Wish I'd had it when I used to cybersex with a friend.
Head Honcho. Kind of a poor-man's fleshlight. Small and light. Stretchy but the entrance is larger and not such a battle. Very textured interior. Easy to use and clean. It's clear so you get weird visuals, if you're into that sort of thing.
Tenga ona-cup, whichever model it was, mentioned elsewhere.
Tenga egg. Still have it. Mentioned elsewhere.
Also three blow-up dolls. First was a worst-of-the-worst generic. A gag-gift from friends as a teen. It was a mix of a bad doll and not knowing anything about sex toys (I didn't even know you needed lube.) Gave it away. Last I heard it was washing dishes in a transexual's kitchen.
Second doll was a high-end vinyl (worth about $250) that I got used (bleach is our friend) for a huge discount. Long story short: this is where I learned the mechanics of fucking a blow-up doll. I also learned that it's not for me. Plus there were other problems. Trash.
Last doll was a screener from Steph, back when she was trying to build SexToyTalk.com. It was a tier in-between the two that I had: better than the first, but not as good as the second, so it wasn't much account. Trash.
I might be forgetting something, but that seems like it. Not counting home-made stuff of varying quality.

Honestly I can't remember. One was supposed to emulate deflowering a virgin, there was a thin bit of whatever the toy was made out of over the entrance so you had to push through it. I pierced the hole and split the entrance completely in half vertically. 1 use bin.
The other was a cheap variant of any budget vagina sex toy you can buy, one use bin. From memory it had bumps or tickler type things in the canal.
Like I said shit.

Really I dont think any of the blow up dolls are good. We carry tons of them of course but the only ones that reallyy sell are the one that aare meant as gags. Like the sheep and Crack Head Charlie (who had to be seperated from the Bree doll).
At our shop we're already competing with Adam & Eve dot com.let alone the other sex shops in the city. People come in all the time and bitch because they can use their 50% off one item coupon at dotcom but they can't use it in our store.
It kinda pisses me off really. I mean, I realize people want things on the cheap but we are a franchise. She owns the shop, decides what goes in there and works very hard to keep her prices competitive. She bought the rights to use A&E fixtures and logo. She also has to follow their corporate rules for stupid shit like dress code (which we do not follow unless corporate is there)and dumb ass secret shoppers.
But what people don't see is how she works 12-14 hour days, drives 2 hours one way to work because her home town was too hung up to let her open her shop there, misses out on much of her kids school lives and works like a dog to make money so she can keep us and pay us.
Owning your own bussiness is not easy venture no matter what line of work you're in. So while I understand why people shop online, I wish for the sake of "mom and pop shops" all over the country that people would go back to shopping local. If there is a problem with your local shop, tell them about it. Don't justt stop shoping there. They can't fix it if they don't know it's broke.

For what it's worth, I do have brick & mortar ethics. I won't go into a store to do research, then buy something online. If I go into a shop and I want advice and I decide to buy it, I'll pay the premium.
But I'm not willingly going to spend double the amount just to buy something at the local store. I have a very limited budget, I have to stretch it. There was a local coffee house that I liked. I bought coffee by the pound from them when I could, but a lot of the time I couldn't justify paying 2x the grocery store price for coffee that was only marginally better.
Porn's expensive, so the occasions when I buy things, I try to make my money count.

Question for SexShopGirl if I may ask. Since you work in a shop you should have first hand knowledge of my curiosity. I don't live in an area with sex shops so I really haven't researched it myself.
I am totally amassed at the number of vibrators, dongs, clit massagers, strapons and other toys specifically designed to pleasure women. I would guess there are more sex toys designed for woman then men. Am I right or wrong?
My question is do woman come into the shop you work at alone and actually buy sex toys for themselves or are most sold to couples who come in and shop together?
I have a hard time imagining all these single or for that matter married women having a drawer full of sex toys for their solitary pleasure. I am not naive enough to not know that woman do masturbate just like we men.
For your information I have been married to the same woman for a long time. A number of years ago I did want to introduce a vibrator in to our sex life, so I purchased without her knowledge a pocket rocket. Being fairly conservative, wifey was a little surprised by it but was willing to give it a try when we made love. She did admit it did provide great pleasure but only cares for it in same doses and it is not a part of our regular sex life.
So SexSopGirl, do woman really buy a lot of sex toys for themselves? I would welcome your comments.

Believe me Jayo, I understand. But try to support them as much as you can. And also keep in mind that while video killed the radio star, internet is killing small business.
Trout Bum (nice name btw, you fly fish?)people buy from me for all knds of reasons.
Most of the time when women come into my shop to buy for themselves they are looking for something a little didfferent that what they're getting. Maybe theey want a bullet or vibrating cock ring. If they're getting nothing, they go for toys that are more of a solo thing like rabbits, venus butterflies, and dongs. Sometimes if they really want to treat themselves they buy a Lelo or Vanity.
They buy things for their husbands who are far away. They buy things for friends who might be single again. They buy things for medical issues that women have and most men don't think about.
I think that many of the toys they come out with are just modified versions of other toys. It's really just a matter of seeing something that looks like it would feel good to us. Whether it's cyberskin or glass it depends on the sensation she wants. I dont think men and women are all that different really. We just have different ways of asking for what we want.
Any toy that can be used on a woman can just about be used on a man. Just because it says clit stimulator doesn't mean Tom, Dick and Harry won't appreciate it. You just have to be willing to use a pink toy for example if a black or blue one (which guys usually go for)is not avaiable. Obviously a prostate massager is not going to work well for your wife. Unless it vibrates, then you could probably find a way to tickle her fanny with it. Sometimes that's the fun part.
I think more men come in to buy for their wives whereas the wives tend to buy for "us." It's practical that way if you think about it. Why spend $50 for two seprate toys when you can get one you'll both use for $30? My married female customers tend to think along those lines more than their husbands do.
Some singles do have drawers full. Some just keep to the basics. it all just depends on the sex drive of the buyer.
Then again we do have women who come in and buy for themselves without their husbands knowing. They hide their toys thinking he will judge. I think that's sad and I'm glad I'm not married to their husbands.
My reccomendation for buying toys of any kind is this.....
Think about what you are trying to achieve. What kind of sensation do you want? Something thick and bumpy? Something smooth and cool?
Do you need it to vibrate?
Keep a spending range in mind and think about how often you plan to use the toy. We sell hollow strap ons for men that can no longer achieve erection. A toy like that should be made well because you'll need it more often. Other toys you may only use once in a while you can go cheap. Pearl Shine are cheap. They don't last long either. If you just want to try something and don't care if it lasts or not, buy Pearl Shine. Then if you like that style of toy, you can invest in a better product.
Think about maintaining the toy. Glass can be washed in soap and water. Cyberskin needs to be washed and dried, preferably with toy cleaner. Then once it's dried it has to be powdered with Renew and put away. Do you have time for all that? If not you will end up with a sticky rubbery mess when your toy breaks down and you'll have wasted your money.
Emotions and hurt feelings are a big thing here. Sex toy shopping is done better as a team effort. That way you get a better idea of what bounderies you can push and which ones are a solid no.
Make sure you tell your partner that you care for them or love them(if that's the case) and that toys are just something you can add to whatever pleasure you share. I think that when men are more honest about accepting that maybe they need to switch things up a bit, their wives are more likely to get comfortable with introducing toys and games in the bedroom.
This works for men too. I find that many younger guys take the idea of using toys as an insult to their virility and the older men seem to take it as their wives not needing them anymore. That's not the case for us or you. There is nothing in the world like making love to real live flesh and blood person.
I hope that helps.

So if a girl wants to have endless orgasms on the back of a Harley what do you recommend? I am torn between the remote egg vibe and simple vibratone balls.
Am I way off track?? What would you recommend?

I'd start with the balls. Those are the ones that rattle a little when you shake them, right?
There is also one called Love Spell. It's a larger ball but you turn it on and insert it.
California Exotics makes a mini bullet called The Whisper that is so small and powerful she could tuck it in the labia and leave the cord out to work the remote. Those are less than $20 at my store.
Around here the bikers like the Fetish Fantasy Series vibrating pannties.

I just wanted to bump this up to give a little shopping advice.
I recently came into some extra money and hubby said "go buy something." So I did.
I actually bought my first cyberskin dong. A nice one too. It was about $50 and I decided I wanted to get a nice bag to store it in so I got a Sugar Sak.
Most of them are about $10 and they are a lined with a material that has been treated with something
called BioShield 75 that helps prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast, fungi, mildew and viruses. It's also supposed to help prevent linty toys.
IT FUCKED UP MY TOY!!!!
Whatever the cause, the toy picked up the color and print from the bag. So now my dong looks bruised as if he was slammed in the car door. Everywhere the bag touched it turned blue. And the bag wasnt even blue!!!!It's still usable but I am fucking pissed!!!
I ended up making my own toy wrap from my own pattern for about the same price with machine washable cotton.
So guys if you're thinking about buying a Sugar Sak for your lady, buyer beware.

That might be a side effect of Cyberskin. If I remember correctly, a friend had a pair of the Danni Ashe boobs (and I think they're Cyberskin). They had a bra on it most of the time, and the boobs picked up the dye from the bra.

Well, the wrap that I made (I'm really proud of it) is 18 x 18 which would fit bigger toys too. The outside is a really cool pirate tattoo type print, mostly red and black and hot pink with skulls and crossbones and cool shit like that.
I did the inside with a pale pink (cause I thought about the print rubbing)cotton broad cloth so it's super smooth and lint free. I trimmed it out with hot pink and I added a gromet for the tie and tag so I can put the toy name on it.
So hopefully my dong is happy with his new blanket. I think it looks pretty sweet.
I also realized that I wasnt happy with the sleeves my glass pieces came with so I made another and padded between the layers with machine washable fleece batting (think really thick felt). When I roll my Icicle up in it, the batting pads the glass. It's awesome. I made it out of a piece of navy blue, hot pink and purple batik tye dye I did a long time ago and did the inside with pink too.
Cleaning and all that bioshield crap won't matter for me. I made the wraps in ALL cotton so I can throw them in the wash if I need to and I am very meticulous about cleaning my toys everytime I use them.
I'm so proud of myself. A couple girls at work want me to make some for them to buy.

Do you have one of those guys who comes in and makes REALLY, REALLY LOUD AND OVERLY JOVIAL SMALL-TALK with the clerks and anybody else in sight in order to convince himself that he is TOTALLY NONCHALANT ABOUT BEING IN A SEX SHOP because there is NOTHING WRONG WITH ME, OH, HELL NO, NOTHING AT ALL ?

Sadly, the staff in my local sex shops are woefully ignorant. I would not ask any of them for advice.
Not only that, most of them are intrusive. For example, I barely walk over to the lube section before they descend on me like locusts and talk down to me, as if I've never used lube before in my life.
Every time I enter the toy section, I get a similar reaction of being asked if I need help after being in there for maybe ten seconds. Again, I don't know, maybe I give off a "sex toy ignoramus" aura or something, because they always look shocked when I usually turn out to know way more about the toys and the materials than they do.
I almost told the last staffer I encountered off after a) telling me that Gun Oil and Eros are exactly the same, even though you can read right on the bottle that Gun Oil has extra ingredients: ergo, they are not exactly the same and b) explaining to my husband as if he's five years old, that they no longer carry ID Glide because it has glycerin (no shit! really??) and "glycerin can cause yeast infections". OK, maybe the last part doesn't sound so bad--possibly it's true that glycerin can cause yeast infections--but it was the shitty, patronizing way that she said it that rankled me so much.

For some people it can but not everyone is sensitive to glycerine.
I know what you mean though. We have a couple younger girls that are like that and have no care what so ever to do better.
I figure someday they will buy a product and no one will warn them about it and it will be a bad thing and then they might learn. I doubt it though. Shop girls like that are usually too concerned with their boyfriends or earning a set of keys from the boss lady. Whereas I could care less and am just concerened about getting enough hours to pay my kids school fees. When I work that hard I earn customers that ask for me when I'm not there. It makes me look good and I get more hours.
My boss has a tendency to overstock the shop. So although I have my "thing" that I say to people when they come in, I know most times if they are a first time customer, the place can be a bit overwhelming. I usually try to ask if there is anything I can help them find and then leave it at that.
As I've said before we actually have guys that will leave if there are too many people in the shop or we talk to them too much.
To each there own.
If I can figure out how to get the damn pics off my phone and onto my computer without a data plan, I'll post them. Then you can see what my shop looks like.

Usually I like having someone come up and ask if I need help, but I want them to scram if I say No. I hate having to hunt down a clerk, but I hate even more being pestered if I want to be left alone.
At sex shops, I'm torn. Occasionally I want to find something and I want to ask, and again--I don't want to have to wander the store to find someone who's sitting at the register, watching TV and looking like he's about to doze off.
On the other hand, it always seems like the clerks come up when I'm looking at the giant plastic dildo that's shaped like Popeye's forearm and fist, complete with Mr. T's 10lbs of gold chains. It doesn't matter that I'm not ever going to buy this thing, I don't want people even visualizing it.
I always feel like people can read my mind in a sex shop, and it ain't pretty.

Well I was crowned porn queen today because I had this old man in and I had to help him pick titles. He ended up buying $237 worth of porn. I have to give you guys some credit for that.
It's good to know your product. And it's nice having a place like this to come find out stuff about porn.

^Any advice on the best lubes out there for tit-fucking? Baby Oil gets so messy.
Oh and the best brands to use during blowjobs would be helpful too.
Thanks!

I always tell people about Jo. I like pretty much everything they make although I've never tried their flavored lubes. I was so excited to find out my boss has decided to carry the line now because of our sales for Jo H2O
System Jo
I also like Wet Synergy and they will send you a free sample. I don't care for their regular water based lube but Wet Platinum iisn't bad for a regular silicone. Synergy+ Cooling is friggin great for anal. I love it.
Wet! Synergy
As far as flavored lubes go. I've mentioned before that I like Good Head by Doc Johnson. But I think with flavored lubes it's a whatever tastes good and doesnt irritate type thing.

^thank you a good place to start, this is going to sound like a dumb question but are silicone based lubricants edible? Not that I plan on putting them on my salad just you would have to assume that the penis is going to be traveling different places.

^ No, they're not. I don't think they would hurt you, they just won't taste very good. BUT they are great for any type of sex. Anal and water sex especially. They are great with glass and metal toys and can be used with most condoms.
Some of them will stain and can be a pain to wash off. But they are very slick and smooth. They do not get sticky and last a long time.
I like Wet Platinum because it washes off easiest out of the plain old regular silicone lubes I've tried.
Waterbased are bad for getting sticky and drying out quickly. I have not had that happen with the Jo H2O lube. It's my general all-purpose lube. It's also safe for ALL toys and types of play.
Synergy is kinda like a hybrid. I like it because it's almost a gel. When you squeeze it out it stands on your finger and doesn't get all over the place.
The Synergy+Cooling is a peppermint cool. It feels nice and cold but doesn't burn like some menthol "cooling" lubes do. For anal it kinda takes away a little bit of the initial ring sting and lasts a really long time.

Congrats Porn Queen!!!! Do you read many of the magazines on the shelf when it comes to video's?? Does the store you work at have sale videos? It isn't hard to convince a customer to buy a movie for 20 bucks if you know your movies AND the customers tastes. Always reccomend lube no matter what the sale is. How about a deck of cards for the next party, they have both for men and women. Every dollar counts.
I used to work in a porn store and my sales volume was way high, I also got a commision from sales when I did that. I had a lot of repeat customers because I didn't sell them junk.
ah well, fun memories.

^All we do is post the extremely long sales receipt to the bullitin board for braggin rights. It's not like I got a really cool crown to wear or anything. One night we sold almost $500 worth to this dude. It ended up being about 29 titles.
Sometimes she'll put movies on sale. Usually Hustler because they are mostly $10 titles and the margin on those are really good for boss lady. So, we'll do buy two get one.
She also gives out in store cupons for $5 off a purchase of $15 or more. So, our collectors use those like crazy. And right now Adam&Eve.com has been sending out 25% off total purchase in-store cupons to kinda push people to the franchises. She lets us use that one too which is nice cause normally we only get %10 off. We do not work on commission but we do get people that will call and ask if certain girls are working because some people just want to deal with a particular sales girl. I usually get the men asking for me because I'm older and they've told me they're more comfortable with me. There is another lady there my age and they like her too. Also we know more about women's sexual health than the younger girls do and the guys always have questions about their wives and partners that we can answer cause we've probably already been there.
We do not carry magazines. We do carry instructional books and erotica (usually short stories published in one book), lap dance music....stuff like that.
When I'm selling porn I usually ask what they want to spend and who they like to watch or what type they like to watch and go from there.I find it's easier to know who does what because then for example if someone says they want DP I think, well this actress does that and she's in this movie...ect, ect.

^ Well this guy came in and started browsing the DVD's. Now, my boss lady has this buying problem. She loves to buy stuff. So we have 5 gondolas and each gondola holds 5 racks on each side with 80 DVD's in each rack. So she has thousands of movies. She even carries some that according to Adam & Eve corporate she's not supposed to carry (some of the gay and Bi porn but I'm not sure why).
So anyhoo, he starts bringup movies and asking if we have the others in the series and we'd find them and make him happy and he started making a stack on the counter.
We didn't think anything of it because people do that. They'll make a pile of stuff on the counter so they don't have to carry everything around and then make a final decision on what they want when they check out. Well then Lisa asked him if he intended to buy them because she was going to start pulling the disks from the movie drawer and putting them in the cases and he said, "yeah I want them all."
I still dont think she believed he was going to buy them all but he did. It was mostly series. I don't remember exactly what. But you know how they have something like Busty Beauties vol 1-16 or whatever. That's the kind of stuff he bought. Like I said it ended up being 29 titles and it ended up being something like $485.
The guy I sold $237 worth of porn to the other day was an elderly man he picked alot of the parodies which are about $30 a pop. Which reminds me, we have Revenge Of The Nerds now.........I must buy.

Well I had a shit night last night. I don't even know if we made our sales day. We were busy enough but it all seemed to be small tickets. And to top it off I had to work with this bitch that hates me.
That's the part of "Yeah it's a fun job but it's retail," drama that I'm always refering to.
I did get hit on last night which is always an ego boost. Not a bad looking older guy either. Reminded me of Van Morrison.
Instead of going home with him, I came home and took out my frustrations on my husband. The sexual kind of course. *wink*

SexShopGrl, I am looking for your recommendations on cocks rings. For the past year I have experimented with using various cock rings. They seem to be gaining in popularity with the guys. I have found that they definitely give me a harder erection, my penis is noticeably longer and thicker (which wifey seems to appreciate) and helps me last longer and have more mind blowing orgasms.
As you know, there a tons of rings out there of all shapes and sizes. Granted, you don't have your very own penis to test them out, but which ones do your male customer prefer.
I am very intrigued by an adjustable cock ring by the name of Impress Performance Cock Ring. Have you had any experience selling it and if so, what kind of feed back have you had.
FYI, I have really enjoyed as I am sure of ADT's have also, that you have taken the time to share you insights.

^^^^ I tried the JO Silicone lube and it sucks compared to my favorite Wet Platinum. It's not as slippery and you had to use lots of soap and water to clean it off. Wifey had to jump in the shower to scrub it off.

My Tenga Egg's about dry and I'm going to put it back in its plastic egg-shaped package. Why can't I dust it with baby powder again? What's the problem?
I've dusted a Fleshlight, a P&A toy, and this egg with baby powder and it doesn't seem to cause any problems that I can see...

Well I'm really loving the Wet Synergy, you guys! We carry it now and I bought my favorite with the cool tingle and then went ahead and bought the regular as well. You have to treat these as you would silicone as far as toys go. But damn......just damn. My new go-to silicone for sure!
The girl at work hatres me because she is young and stupid. She's one of those obsessive compulsive types and cannot stand anyone who challenges her little world. I'm a challenge. I don't cowtow to her every whim because I'm older and I just don't care. But boss lady is watching her because she's blown up at me a couple times on the sales floor and the rest of the crew has had it with her. Once because I was busy and she had to get off her fat ass and help a customer. She's skatin and I'm biding my time.
Today, she stood there and talked to her mom (in the shop) for TWO HOURS while the closing shift had to clock in early to help customers at the shoe bench and toy room because I was ringing up a large order and gift wrapping. Needless to say they were pissed for having to do that and I still didn't get out of there to twenty past the end of my shift. I'm gonna laugh when she gets fired.
Troutbum, since you've been playing with cockrings you've probably noticed which ones work better than others by now, yes? I like Screamin-O's Ring-o. They are a more firm jelly cockring and will help hold your erection a little better than the fun ones with the vibes and clit kissers and all that.
Also our more advanced cockring users like the Spartacus cock rings. They are the old school rubber and metal cock rings. These need to be used before you achieve erection but you can take a large one and use it around your sack, then a smaller one on the shaft and your dude will stand up nice and handsome. At my shop you get packs in different sizes for the shaft or an assortment that has one large enough for both the shaft and scrotum for about $6. It may take some practice but gentle with yourself till you get the hang of it.
If you feel like you've gotten it down pat, maybe mix it up with a pump. Alot of guys I sell pumps to use them not necessarily to get bigger but just to pull enough blood in to make them rock hard. You don't need a fancy, just pick one that looks like it might be comfortable and get one with a silicone sleeve. I'm told they feel a little nicer than the rubber ones. The sleeve is the part around the opening that helps create the seal.
And remember, no matter what kind you use, only keep cockrings on for about 30 minutes. You can do some serious damage if you don't play safely with cockrings.

If baby powder doesn't bother you then use it, it's better than nothing.
Baby powder isn't "pure" like pure talc or zea mays startch and for some tyoys that can make for infection particularly if it's used anally or vaginally. Since you're pwdering strokers you should be okay.

Thanks for the tips. Never tried a pump as I have relied on wifey's hands and mouth to help me get hard. I do have a Fleshlight I bought a number of years ago when wifey was pregnant, but haven't really used it much lately. Will it do the same thing as a pump? I will check out the screamin-o. The other cock ring that caught my attention was a Vibratex Duet penis ring. It has two built in vibrators, one which stimulates the man and the other which vibrates on the lady's clit. Do you sell those. Heard good things about those.

We don't have the cock rings you mentioned but there are soooooo many out there to chose from that could be really fun. I've loved pretty much everything Screamin-O's makes.
Bought a Fing-O the other day. Used it on hubby during a blow job. Watched his eyes roll back in his head.
*grins*
Pumps REALLY suck (pun intedned). The suction is more gradual and building, will help pull the blood into the shaft and the different sensation can be a real turn on. Experiement and let your wife play around with it. Some women like to use it on their men so they can "watch it grow". We don't have one.....yet. LOL!

^^^ Heck, Viagra does the same thing !!! Gets you rock hard with out the hassle. Blood just gushes into you dick. No problem.
Thanks for all your tips. We don't live anywhere close to a sex shop so all our shopping has to be online. That's why ADTer's like myself appreciate it when you take the time to respond to our questions. Too bad you we can't pay you commission.

My dear Trout Bum, Viagra is not nearly as much fun to take as the potential laughs, giggles and good time you might have with your wife while experiemting with a pump now is it?
I appreciate the compliments and I'm glad any time I can be of help. I have good sex, I want everyone else to have good sex too. But I would starve if I worked on commission. Sometimes I have a tendency to school customers about their "problems" and it turns out they don't need to buy anything at all. Other times I have a tendency to sell cheaper toys that I know work better for what my customers want rather than talk them into the more expensive toys. I had a lady today ask what my backround was because I guess I was very good with my advice today. I told her I had no special training, I was just a big pervert.

Good call on not recommending that a person leaves a cock ring on too long, penis pumps work by expanding the fat tissue in the cock, not by sucking the blood into it. Correct me if I am wrong. If a person over pumps their cock using a penis pump it can cause irreversible damage by bursting the blood vessels that supply blood to the penis making it naturally hard.
Same can be said about cockrings, they trap the blood into the cock, keeping it hard but stops the flow of oxygen, again causing irreversible damage.
The products can be fun, but be very careful and use in moderation.
