Particularly older women because of course they seem to have more health problems that effect the balance of flora and natural lubrication in the vagina. Meds can do this, menopause, diabetes, all kinds of things. BUT I am sure there are men out there who are allergic or have trouble with certain lubes. Without knowing what all you've tried or the common denominator in all the ingredients, I couldn't begin to guess. The common "guilty parties" are.... Parabens which are commonly used as preservatives. from wikki.... Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup, and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives. Glycerin can cause problems for some people but I've found that my customers who cannot use glycerins have trouble with other glycerin products too, like soap for example. Any kind of sugar. Sometimes people don't realize it's even sugar. I go by a rule that if a word ends in "crose" as in sucrose, fructose, glucose, it's a sugar. Also synthetic sugars such as aspartame (Nutra Sweet) and saccharin (Sweet n' Low)can cause problems for some people though I don't think it's as common. Alcohols. They work to keep some lubes from getting sticky but they also dry out the mucosa. They can also be in disguise as sugars such as Xylitol (in Trident gum)Sorbitol(another sweetener), menthol (in cooling lubes and arousal balms). Even glycerin is considered an "alcohol." But you'll also see propanol and butanol. So just like everything else I'm listing you would have to know ALL the ingredients and what their aliases are. Lanolin. That's the fatty oil that sheep secrete to keep their wool dry but it's also in some balms and "natural" oil based lubes and things like Carmex. It makes a great moisturizer, witches used to call it "baby boy fat" but it's hell if you're sensitive to it. My boss lady was telling me that some people even have trouble with Vitimin E which is supposed to be good for your skin. But when they use "proper" names for vitimin E (alpha-tocopherol)it can get confusing. Do any of these strike as something you've had trouble with before? Are we ringing any bells? Have you ever had anything like contact dermititis? It's uaully just an annoying rash that can be anything from little hives to something that resembles chapped skin and eczeme. I would make sure that you are also using good hygiene. For example, maybe think about washing well after sex. Then the culprit won't have time to sit on your skin and irritate it. I know it's not as spontaneous as kisses and cuddles or spooning right after sex, but it might be worth the effort. You'll definately want to watch for hives, swelling(that has nothing to do with an erection lol)dry patches, open sores, peeling or cracked skin. Really even if you saw a dermatologist, it would be a process of elimination and testing is a pain in the ass. The dermatologist would stick little disks on your back or shoulder coated with the common irritants to see if they cause a reaction. You could try and compare ingredients of the lubes that bother you and then figure out which ones match. You could also try each lube on a small spot of skin, wait a few day and see if it reacts. I'd probably just stick with the brands that you know will not bother you. If you like JO you might be safe trying the other products in the line. JO sells so well at our store our boss lady decided to go ahead and order the whole display. I can't friggin wait! I want to try the flavored lubes.
