Why do you think it is that sex toys for girls are considered par for the course and totally acceptable, while their male equivalents are objects of sniggering derision? Personally I've never seriously considered buying a pretend vagina, but thought nothing of buying a girl one of those rabbit vibes. It only just occured to me that for some reason dildoes and other mechanisms of male substitution seem normal to my mind, while man-made cock sockets are beyond my pale. Why is that do you think?
I don't think that's it. I think some of the things that enter into it are:
1) Women are sex objects.
2) Women are supposed to be more passive and virginal. Men are supposed to go out there and get some. But women are supposed to be clean and pure and waiting just for you. But hot and horny, and wanting to show you how they can hardly wait.
3) Other stuff like that.
People are very confused. It's not any easier for women to be horny yet virginal. Heh.
female sex toys have been integrated into pop culture. male sex toys have not.
almost every adult knows what a vibrator is, just as general knowledge. who can identify a cock-ring on site? who would not be repulsed when first seeing a fleshlight with no prior knowledge?
Best thing I ever read on the double-standard was this on another forum (not ADT):

Don't know specifics, but it runs deep-enough that before posting about getting one of these "Things"(UR3-vag),I thought [NOT] How Cool is it to be ordering one of these things but hmmm... Maybe I should be posting "this subject" under a different name.
I do know that after watching enough of those "Discovery"-like Channel's/Series on Cable TV about ANTHROPOLOGY in general (a subject that I thought I wanted to know everything there is to know; not anymore)I've begun to see that most things are there for a reason and for damn-good reason; Survival! The village-primate-politics of burn-the witch, no that"pretty-witch"[gals]or The guy getting the most ass usually, usually isn't the empty wagon making the most noise or the loudest. I've heard something about Psychology being the easiest course to pass in College!

YIKES! & DAMN Bob! Cut it to the Quick, Cut it to the Bone & Cut to THE MARROW; I can spell SUCCINT with a little help from you know who. NUFF SAID & TOO-TRUE!
Of all the customers that patronize my store, men are the most secretive. They're embarrassed about buying a pocket pussy, and feel threatened by sex toys designed for women. It is the rare male that seeks assistance for himself and/or his partner from the likes of me. I praise them for it, openly and unabashedly. Whenever a man approaches me about buying a masturbatory aid, I do my damnedest to help him. Unfortunately I have very little information to work with. My male customers do not come back with stories of their success or failure with any particular product. I wish they'd be more open about it, because it could greatly assist other men. Honestly, my only feedback about such products is gleaned from ADT.
I've used shopping for sex toys, in part, as anti-shame therapy. A place like the Pleasure Chest in Los Angeles -- which has every kind of toy, gear, book, video, costume, lube, etc. that you can imagine -- has been a great place for that. By and large, the staff (especially the women) are incredibly helpful and friendly.

Off topic -- I've spotted pornstars there on a few occasions. A couple of months ago, two familiar performers came in together, looking very much like girlfriends, shopping for slave collars, ball gags, and other bondage gear. I kept a respectful distance but enjoyed the eye candy (then) and the fantasies (later).
I read a funny article once that said there's an unwritten social contract between porn-shop workers and customers: even though we both know why you're there and exactly what you're going to do with this stuff, you never, ever acknowledge the fact that it's going to be fodder for masturbation. Absolutely true. It's a part of my private life that I generally don't want to share with friends of mine, much less strangers. If I'm in a porno shop and I buy something, I can pass it off as a bachelor party gift, but deep down I know it's not. So I'm standing there with my copy of Big Tit Illustrated or Ass Over Tits or She-Male Monthly, or a dvd of Busty Asian Masturbating Lesbian Nuns 9, or a $200 rubber pussy molded from my favorite porn star, and I feel like anyone who sees it has an x-ray vision into a dark part of my soul. I don't necessarily want the world to know what gets me off. I don't want people picturing me beating off or humping this thing. I especially don't want people busting a gut in the backroom talking about it, even if I never know about it. Cause I suspect it. I don't think it's so unusual. A little bit of it is generational: I didn't grow up with the internet, softcore porn on cable tv and explicit sex in paperbacks you can get at the grocery store, but I'm not that old. My friends and I had a pool of men's magazines and we'd trade them. But outside of the occasional joke about pages being stuck together, we never, ever mentioned what we might be doing while reading them. In our minds we would just look the pictures and sigh, like we do now looking at photos of exotic sports cars and warm Caribbean islands. I'm free with my advice here, but I can't imagine myself holding a conversation with someone at a porn shop, debating the merits of the Danni Ashe Boobs (save your money) or the Kobi Thai Ultra Realistic P&A (great if you can afford it), and so on. That's why I buy my stuff on the internet. The postman has no idea (hopefully) what I'm getting. Now I have no problem discussing any of this here. I actually enjoy discussing it; but here I have anonymity (or at least I feel like I do). Edited by - jayo on 1/9/2007 12:36:38 AM Edited by - jayo on 7/1/2007 6:35:07 PM
Pagoda. Have you ever tried to find an online forum that's dedicated exclusively to sex toys? There just has to be at least one. There seems to be one for just about everything.
I wondered the same, but never found one (not that's any good). The only ones I've found that are close are Doll Forum, which caters specifically to love dolls, and one for Fleshlight users. They're good, but they're very limited in scope. and Sex Toy Talk is all reviews.
I doubt it would get much traffic. Most people who end up here are interested in information and discussion about DVDs. In order to really draw a good crowd of people who were all interested in exclusively discussing toys, that would have to be the forum's main purpose. And it would probably take a while for it to become established. I've seen some dead forums that seemed like great ideas. I have no idea why they died. It really is like lightening when a forum succeeds. It isn't guaranteed.
I enjoy perusing the Fleshlight Forums, and was even a moderator over there for awhile. It's mostly men (a few gals) discussing the Fleshlight and, typically, comparing those male sex toys to other P&A units/pocket pussies out on the market. By and large, most users feel there is no comparison between a Fleshlight and most other toys for the same price, at least in terms of feel. This topic comes up over there almost all the time. Generally speaking, most users feel that men just are too uptight with their sexuality in general to openly discuss sex toys. It's considered "less manly" to even discuss masturbation in purely sexual terms....borderline gay, in fact. Not that I agree. But it's still pretty much a taboo subject. Men just aren't typically "man enough" to admit to using sex toys...let alone enjoying them.
Well. In that case. I have never had a toy pussy but if I did, I'd fuck it silly and would have no problems admitting it. It's odd that some men won't even discuss these issues with strangers they've never met and never will.
Basically, the only reason why I don't have a bunch of sex toys is because - 1. I can't afford them 2. The only store I know of that sells them is about an hour drive from here. Otherwise, I could debate you all day or night on which plastic pussy feels better, fits better, looks more realistic, weighs more/less, etc. I'm not shy about that kind of stuff. Maybe a lot of people buy them mostly as novelties. I don't know. I think an artificial pussy would have to be designed pretty damn well to even hold a candle to the real deal. And that would mean a very expensive toy. Most people just won't drop that kind of cash on a sex toy. Dildos are a bit more simple. Cylindrical, non toxic, washable, smooth. There's your basic dildo.
This is on the way: Head Honcho Sleeve. I'll post a review on Sex Toy Talk when it arrives. I'm usually turned off by the price of toys, but this was cheap enough for me to take a shot.
yeah I know how this goes... aside from one girl I know, which surprisingly is the one who got me into these things in the first place, only one other girl knows (and likes) the fact that I own sleeves. But I'll admit, I dont think I could so easily talk about this to just anyone... besides, the few times I've even mentioned em I've gotten weird looks so...
