Yesterday I saw the episode of Seinfeld where George starts sneaking food into the bedroom during sex. Later in the episode, he eats a pastrami sandwich and starts getting turned on by it.
This reminded me of a story I heard once about a woman (hell, couldve even been on these forums!) who would masturbate to a certain cd or song. Then whenever she would hear that song when she wasn't masturbating, she would get turned on.
Are these fact or fiction? Personally, I think it's entirely possible to be sexually conditioned.
My favorite story in Jack Morin's book The Erotic Mind concerns a man with a fetish for wearing yellow raincoats while masturbating. When he was a boy, his parents had given him a toy firetruck to ride around in, along with a little yellow raincoat. He loved the rumbling between his legs, and the thoughts of big, brave firemen. Later he realized he was gay, and yellow raincoats became a centerpoint for his fantasies.
The difference between one guy's desire for women in Catholic schoolgirl uniforms, and another guy's love of long fingernails are all conditioned. Many of your erotic preferences are conditioning. Fetishes are conditioned.
What's more, you can use the idea of conditioning to expand your erotic repertoire. If a woman is indifferent, or only slightly attracted to the idea of being spanked, then spanking her lightly (maybe with some erotic talk) at moments of peak arousal will reinforce a preference for it. If a man has only a faint interest in having his nipples pinched, then pinching them lightly while he is in the throes of ecstasy should reinforce it.
I used to listen to The Rippingtons "Tourist In Paradise" CD every time we had sex. The music from that CD is used pretty often as a segue when our local news is cutting over to a commercial. There have been many times when I find myself popping a boner while watching the news.
Think of Pavlov's dog. We are all animals that can be trained to respond to specific stimuli. I get turned on whenever I smell Bath and Bodyworks Vanilla-Mint. I used it as massage cream for the first girl I ever fell in love with in college. Only that particular scent sends my mind to another place. Any other scent is simply pleasant to smell.

I've always described my fetishes as a forbidden fruit thing. I remember from my time in elementary school that I was strangely drawn towards the not-so-popular girls, I got my first boners of going against the mainstream. Ahh, those sweet childhood memories.....
Later on, at high school I did hook up with the popular incrowd, but suddenly a fetish for TS's bumped up. Again, going against the mainstream......
I tend to appreciate my fetishes as much as possible, as long as they not interfere with other important things in my life. That has worked for me so far...
