Slightly off topic here but has anyone had problems with lasersedge shipping to the UK? My first order was shipped first week of April and still no sign. Not really concerned yet but still have 2 more orders for them to fulfill. Any similar experience?
Yes, I had problems with three discs spanning two orders. Marc said on 8th April that they were changing to another mail handler due to the problems they were having. Since that time I have had a couple of discs through from them so maybe their problems are sorted out. Your best bet is to wait until a month has passed and if it still hasn't arrived (which is likely, I received one yesterday shipped on the 18th April) then send an email to Marc with your details.
I'm not sure which service they use exactly so I can't say if other companies use the same one.I read some threads here about custom problems in the UK so maybe they had something to do with it. I'm not sure how it works though. Do you like get a letter from the Custom service that they have confiscated your DVD or don't you hear anything?
I live in Holland myself and I have received my DVD's from Laseredge which were shipped to me on 4/14/2003 and 4/15/2003. It took exactly two weeks. Looks like the changing of shipping service is paying off.
UK custome do one of four things: 1) Ignore your package 2) Charge you duty then VAT based on the quoted price plus shipping charge. 3) Open the package, estimate the value and then charge you as above. 4) Open the package and decide you're not having it in which case you will be informed by letter and given the opportunity to appeal (ie they don't burn it straight away).
I've had a couple of deliveries from LE recently - both took around 14 days to arrive (bearing in mind the Easter holidays) so it seems that deliveries to the UK are fairly slow. I had another delivery from ALS DVDs, from the US somewhere, and that arrived in about 7 days from being shipped. So maybe it's something about the route taken by LE packages. Who knows. Just be patient and it'll turn up.
Regarding customs, I've never had anything opened. The only time I've been stung for import charges is when I bought some discs from ADUniverse and they marked the full value on the green package sticker. Thankfully LE are more "creative" with their declarations! Apparently GameLink are similarly helpful, but I've never ordered from them so far.
The answer is yes. Check out several threads mentioning Laser's Edge in the title. Marc, from the store, posts his response to the problems there too. As always, I suggest that if you have had service you consider unsatisfactory, get in touch with the vendor.
I've had an email from Marc asking me to give the package a few more days before any action is taken. Very swift and efficient. I've had a few problems with other companies and extended delivery times, as you suggest probably due to different shipping methods. In fact one place was busy crediting my account with what I'd lost when the package thumped onto my doormat 6 weeks late. I presume the same thing will happen with LE. I'll kick and scream and then it'll just thump.
Quick update. Just turned on my computer to find an email from Marc at LE saying that he has credited my account for the DVD and shipping costs. Damn those boys are good.
