I'm pretty sure there isn't any scientific studies determining when the brain is mature enough to perform in porn so your application of those studies regarding the prefrontal cortex is no less arbitrary than the age of 21. Picking an age, any age ignore the fact that individuals develop at different rates, so using averages to apply to a large group is a flawed concept in and of itself. So since the concept is flawed does that mean we should just throw the whole damn thing out and not have a minimum age at all? Of course not, that would be preposterous. What we can do, and still maintain a modicum of scientific validity, is hypothesize, experiment and evaluate. Just because you have decided to conveniently ignore the hypothesis that the brain is more mature at 21 than at 18 (instead sticking to the false dichotomy of either fully mature or not fully mature) doesn't mean there isn't merit to raising the age to 21, then analyzing the effects and adjusting the age accordingly. That is science.
As I said in the other thread, age isn't the issue. Making sure that anyone getting into porn fully understands what they are getting into is much more important, regardless of age. IF the people that are in position to actually raise the age, if they really gave a shit, they wouldn't be looking at age. They would be looking at entry counseling. You have to take a defensive driving course to get a drivers licence. You get a job at most brand name stores and you have to take safety classes. You get job orientation. Stop the age shit and focus on schooling the people about what they are getting into, what their rights are, what will be expected of them, what they don't have to do, etc. God, Fucking libtards are going to ruin this country....... I say keep it at 18, but G/G only until 21. Learn about the industry and If you are still in the business 3 years later, you can cross over and cash in better prepared . Because if you can survive doing G/G only for 3 years, you have a future in the business going B/G or staying G/G only.
It seems to me that most of us agree on 3 points: 1) There is a problem with the current system: Some people start performing without giving enough thought to the likely implications on the rest of their lives. 2) There isn't any single magic age, but between the ages of 18-25, most people learn to exercise better judgement. 3) The social stigma associated with sex work is an underlying problem, but at this point sex workers lack the "social capital" to substantially reduce the stigma in any time frame that might be meaningful to an 18-year-old who is considering entering porn sometime in the next seven years. It seems to me that some meaningful intake training, counseling, or screening process is crucial, and that this process can't be left to agents or anyone else who might profit if the prospective performer decides to enter the industry. I'm not qualified to develop the protocol for this process, but dealing with the social stigma seems to crucial.
It's not a versus thing. I'm simply sick of the liberal swoop. Instead of approaching this straight on, the attitude is that we have to take care of everyone because they can't take care of themselves. Don't like young girls going into porn? Simple, pretend there is an issue, pretend something has to be done about it. Pretend you have the answer, but make sure it comes across as if we are the ones that want it. And off course, make sure no one should have to answer for their own actions, they are too young, they don't know better, so raise the age. It amazes me that people fall for this crap. So you give them this. Then, they will say that certain acts are degrading to women, but of course, they will only say that AFTER they make it a pc issue. And of course, with it being pc, well, who can argue. It's amazing.......It's not a versus thing, it's a simple fact that this crap is fabricated via a very well developed pc machine. People react, society loses. And before anyone says this isn't even a political thing, lol. The liberals have perfected this to the point that they don't even have to start the crap, people can't wait to do it on their own now. And this is a perfect example. The discussion isn't at all about IF there is an issue and how to help those that MAY suffer from a problem, but instead say there IS a problem and eliminating any chance it could continue by creating a restriction that affects everyone. IF they really felt there was a real issue, they would deal with it as I have said before. But with it being a hidden agenda, you can't do that, as you won't get what you really want. And the fools eat it up and hand it to them.

I think 21 would be best. People are just getting out of High School or moving out of home. I think they should have a chance to look around before doing an extreme career that might cause social ostracization that will hurt their opportunities in other areas.
So, let me get this straight. A very small percentage of the female population goes into porn. Of those, a very small percentage has an issue from doing so. I'm assuming it's a small percentage as opposed to no percentage, as someone has made it an issue, even though I'm not seeing any references to this real issue. So, the overwhelming vast majority of girls are doing just fine with the age being 18 by either not getting into porn all on their own, or aren't having issues if they do make the choice to get into porn. But, let's overlook the above and focus on the idea that there is a real problem because, well, someone says so. BUT, they can have all the sex they want off camera at 18, because, well, that can't go wrong. Hell, you aren't ready at 18 to have sex on camera, but you can get knocked up and raise a kid. Because, well, you might not be ready to make a decision that only you will have to live with, but you are just fine to make one that your kid will have to live with, of which, both come from the same physical act. I guess there isn't the same stigma/regret attached to being a single mother as there is to being in porn. But then, with porn regret being such and issue, and with the limited number of unwanted pregnancies, well, what was I thinking. How anyone can not see the actual agenda behind any attempt to limit any activity that is considered socially unacceptable is beyond me. How anyone can not see how giving up any freedom is nothing more than a movement in the wrong direction is beyond me. How can anyone buy into this movement when there isn't any real conversation supporting a problem? How can anyone support this baseless change and not expect the next change to come along? Philly just passed a law to tax soda. The idea is to discourage people from drink soda because the sugar is bad for you. The money will go to schools (It sure will, just like the NY lottery does, never mind that they reduced the funding that was there by as much as the new lottery income brought in). The sad part is that people interviewed support it. Really. Now, will these same idiots be surprised when they tax salt, meat with over 5% fat, all processed food with sugar as a top five ingredient? All because we as people can't own our own decisions. Instead, we would rather have the governments take from us and tell us what to do. Why bother trying to educate people. Why is this age issue any different?
[mod edit: link removed. Please Do Not Use Our Forum as a Mean to Get Free Advertising.] Any woman who turns 18 on or after January 1, 2018 will be required to register for the United States draft. The United States Senate recently approved a defense spending budget with what was a controversial provision, but passed this time 85-13. So girls, get ready, if they ever reinstitute the draft, you may be off to some foreign country to stop the spread of Communism in a decades-long war that we will not win in the end, but we will say we won, because why the hell did we go in the first place. The question then becomes.....should you be able to serve in the military OR do porn at 18 yrs old? Edited by - killbillvol69 on 6/20/2016 6:48:25 PM
Are we talking about actually changing the law or are we talking about a self imposed regulation by the industry? If its the former probably not, but if its the latter than definitely yes. I myself do not watch or follow most girls who start any younger than 21, and most of the few I do try to follow seem to be out of the industry in a couple of years. Maybe Im being old fashioned, but if you are comfortable with having sex in front of the camera at age 18 you are not normal and usually not demure enough for my tastes.
^ Why should your taste have any effect on what a consenting adult can or can not do with their own body outside of whether or not you purchase their work? Why should anyone's personal taste? You want to argue whether or not their old/intelligent enough to understand the consequences of their actions, then go ahead, but this is an argument that should have nothing to do with taste.
Let's say for argument sake that most porn agents, producers and the people in power were willing to do that. Have you ever tried to tell an 18yrs old something and they actually listened, considered all your points and actually thought about the ramification of what they are about to do? In my experience most 18yrs old simply don't have the level of maturity needed to make long term decisions.
I don't know if many give a shit but in their defense maybe it's not their place to do so. After all the person asking to do porn is currently of legal age to do so(see why raising age is a good idea). Your analogies are not appropriate for this subject. The reason why you need to take driving classes before getting your license is because you are going to be sharing the road with many people and your ignorance is not just dangerous for you but dangerous for everyone else. The reason why stores require that you take safety classes is so that you realise some of the dangers involve in your job and can't turn around and sue the store if and when an accident occurs. If the people producing porn were almost guaranteed to get sued (and likely lose) than you would see significant changes across the entire porn industry.
I'm not saying it's anyone's job to do it or that it's going to work for everyone. I'm saying that the people that are saying that age is an issue could make a much bigger impact implementing these features than they will by raising the age. That the reason they are not going in that direction is because that isn't their true objective.
Differently people have different ideas. The discussion started because Sean Michaels, who is President of a newly-formed Performers Union, called for raising the age. So I'm thinking– not just the industry– but specifically the performers, would take the lead.
Check the science books, adulthood comes after puberty not kid hood, therefore by 18 over 99.99% of females are women because they have reached post puberty(completion of puberty) and are adults who are very young. They may still be immature in their minds to some degree, therefore that makes them a mentally immature(to some degree) adult, but certainly mature enough to decide to appear in porn and show all their lust. What i mean about the start or the beginning of adulthood is when a teen has just completed puberty by 100%, sorry moms and dads kid hood does not come after puberty, adulthood can only come after puberty, theres nothing in between post puberty and adulthood, it is the same, although the law says precisely at 18 years and everyone must respect that. As for post puberty young adults or older adults who are mentally immature and think theyre still kids? Perfectly ok. Ya could act or think like a kid at any age but that cannot change the fact that youre a post puberty adult. MEANING of adulthood - the period of time in your life after your physical growth has stopped and you are fully developed. Edited by - doug v on 7/9/2016 11:29:06 PM

Do you mean adulthood may occur before 18? The law does see the beginning of adulthood(the moment they become a young adult) at precisely and they mean precisely-to-the-second-they-hit-18-years but a child 1 second before. That seems impossible to be a child 1 second before and an adult 1 second later but in law terms this is an actual fact. I think nature decides when one is an adult and that is precisely at post puberty(the end of puberty) which may even be at 17 and there could be late bloomers seen in some males to reach adulthood by 19. It varies from teen to teen.Alot of people seem confused about this. They dont see any difference between a kid whos still going through puberty compared to a 100% post puberty young adult.I guess highschools dont teach teens much about adulthood. ^ "Throughout History" didn't begin when you were born (or even your parents) and puberty ends well before 17 for many people. Before you go criticizing what other people learned in high school perhaps you should go brush up on some of your fundamentals.

Ok,i googled- Puberty is the process of physical changes through which a child's body matures into an adult body.Physical growth, height and weight accelerates in the first half of puberty and is completed when an adult body has been developed.Girls usually complete puberty around ages 15–17,while boys usually complete puberty around ages 16–17.Any increase in height beyond the post-pubertal age is uncommon. Adolescence is the period between puberty and adulthood. Biologically,an adult is a human being or other organism that has reached sexual maturity(which must include fully grown adult size body). [o\|] I suggested that you brush up on your neuroscience and you have done no such thing. I further suggested that you brush up on your history since you made an inaccurate claim about the history of legal adulthood. Your response is not relevant to what I wrote.

^^It's very unusual for 16 and 17 year olds to be pre-pubescent, so I don't know why you're bringing up pedophilia. Furthermore, 16 and 17 year olds are not pre-teens. Additionally, a person can legally consent to sex at 16 and/or 17 in much of the world. A 17 year old may legally consent to sex in New York. Is New York therefore a sick state? Ok---"Throughout history, puberty has often been used as the transition point into adulthood but the adolescent brain continues to mature well into the 20s.The frontal lobes may not be fully developed until halfway through the third decade of life." ---This just means a 30 year old adult is far more mentally mature than an 18 year old adult who lacks the mental maturity, but has enough mental maturity to sign a contract or appear in porn. I believe the lack of maturity in the brain is due to influence of current society, their friends and family. To prove this is simple. 20 year old women of the 1930's or 50's thought, talked and acted far far more mature than 20 year old women of today and that was also by influence, and i bet their frontal lobes became fully developed by 20 back in 1930. But as i already mentioned, mental immaturity cannot change the fact that the teen has completed puberty and freshly entered into adulthood. Edited by - doug v on 7/10/2016 2:10:45 AM

^^Whether a prospective pornstar's body has reached sexual maturity is a separate issue from the matter I raised. If you want to argue that an individual's level of sexual maturity should be the only factor we consider when setting a minimum age, fine, but I'm talking about brain maturity. I for one would not bet that "frontal lobes were fully developed by 20 back in 1930."

Yea,there were and still are societies who beleive as soon as they hit puberty at 11 or 12 they are an adult AND THEY ARE SO WRONG. The transition from child to adult body is no where near complete at 11,puberty just started not full adulthood, that only starts apon completion. Even at 17, if a male has not reached post puberty, hes not an adult yet, maby he achieved 80% completion, 100% completion is an adult-a mentally immature adult whos frontal lobes havent fully matured due to influence. And i bet brain scans of a 20 year old from 1930 would show fully matured frontal lobes, its the mature thinking patterns in time due to influence that will develop them, whereas immature influence or thinking patterns will leave the frontal lobe to be under developed even like at 25. Click to expand
These two statements contradict themselves , in nature biological adulthood begins the very exact moment you hit fertility and could reproduce and generate children. If any science book says otherwise is because the law says otherwise and you don't defy the law if you don't want your book to be banned from schools because it implies the law is wrong and invites the kids to consider themselves adults. The law is not wrong though it is a social agreement to regulate their society ,No parent would want his Son to fuck like a bunny since he turns 13 or maybe even 12 , let alone their daughters , thus a law to "protect" them which actually is meant to punish everybody involved. The law also provides two lines one is the "age of consent" the other being "adulthood". Also is no surprise to anyone here that the laws change not only from country to Country but also in the same Country over the years as well Nature and biology on the other hand remain the same no matter what.Every single known life form begins to mate as soon as possible or try to or even die trying to. The sooner they do, the more descendants they get the more they get ,the higher the chances to have surviving siblings , plus the sooner they do the longer they can teach them. Unlike modern era and some peculiar areas or period in history the life expectancy for humans in average was around 30 to 33 years due to harsh conditions , epidemics , simple traumas , hunting accidents , famine , wars and anything nasty enough to kill a man.If Nature really wanted adulthood at 18 there would have been an overwhelming number of orphans already at 12 or 15 with nobody to teach them and we're just talking first born. Our species wouldn't have survived . But here's the thing if they begun to mate at 13 which is when the ability to have children begins they may raise to sexual maturity and to full "adulthood" at least 2 children maybe more before they die. Unlike our society their life was relatively simple they needed to just eat , mate , learn how to hunt and hunt thus they may be possibly fully prepared to face life and responsibility (i.e. to fully provide for their families) only after their body was full grown and the time between used to learn. But then again a human body reaches his developing limit at 25 , with a life expectancy of another 5 to 8 years they just couldn't wait that much. to raise the age from 18 to 21 looks like to draw another line other than "age of consent" and "adulthood" this latter would be divided into limited and full adulthood. What puzzles me is that people is very much allowed to marry at a lower age than 18 , they're considered adult enough to grasp every little implication of what it means to be married , to generate children, to raise them and educate them, to provide and give them the best you could. to protect and sustain your mate for life no matter what, and you're required to promise or even swear so . yet you'd not be smart enough to grasp what doing porn would mean? really? Bottom line the real problem is the level of awareness of those entering in porn , if you think your school system with parenthood cannot provide enough understanding of the fact of life then you should very much raise the age, but you should also think about what exactly your schools are doing to them to raise naive idiots mostly. Also I'm sure there are those who enter porn without thinking it through , but many others did, would it be fair to stop the many who know what they are doing only to prevent the few who don't from doing it? Or with a metaphor would you forbid completely alcohol to prevent people from driving under the influence , would you prevent the many who don't from drinking just because a few don't give a fuck? No,in nature FULL physical adulthood begins APON THE COMPLETION of puberty between 15 to 18 and in the rare event 19.What you are describing is the beginning of puberty and the transition before fully developed physical adulthood.Yes from 11 to 17 in nature they achieved a certain percentage of adulthood but not 100% completion. In nature a 13 year may have achieved only 40% adulthood and did not reach full physical adult frame, height, weight and sexual maturity.A 17 year old may of achieved 90% adulthood and is not yet an adult in eyes of nature, whereas a 16 year old may have achieved 100% completion and therefore entered full adulthood in the eyes of nature,a mentally immature adult. Edited by - doug v on 7/10/2016 10:58:17 AM
^ Is this was true , Men shouldn't be allowed to mate until 25 when his brain would be fully developed , this would be a self explanatory bullshit. The only purpose of life is to personally survive and to replicate so that the species would survive , the only definition of maturity known in nature is the ability to replicate even if it was the single one thing you would ever do in your life, actually in many species , this is done once in a lifetime regardless how full they grew. A thirteen year old boy or girl can have children , hence in the eyes of nature is adult enough , as for your made up numbers, let's get some example , in Ancient Rome adulthood begun at 17 , not just adulthood at that age a man was considered full adult and responsible, Julius Ceaser was already an military officer and even earned the highest military honour for a Roman , Augustus was a little older when he entered the Senate and was fully capable to deal with all those Senators many of which wanted him dead, Cleopatra was 19 when she entered the WORLD'S political theatre but it's not just a Roman way, Alexander was 19 when he begun his adventure , Hannibal a little more than 20 , it's not just them the whole world considered them old enough , thousands of men trusted them with their life , King Henry the VIII married a 16 years Old woman , Queen Victoria was crowned at 18. Let me guess not fully grown and yet Empress already? When the hormones hit you fuck, and the hormones hit the hardest during puberty , each and everyone of us has experienced this already, there's only one thought at that age and is sex

Of course what i said is true, nature did not make a puberty child of 11 to spurt in growth to full adult size in 1 second, its a 4 to 7 year process, thats why a 13 year old is still a little kid due to only 20% completion of adulthood whereas a 20 year old is a big ass man due to 100% completion. So many people are confused about this.I think they need to rewrite the puberty and adulthood books in schools. Edited by - doug v on 7/13/2016 4:26:11 PM
Adulthood is a matter of culture , I know of many thirteeners over 6 foot 1 tall , the only adulthood known to nature is the ability to breed.
There are still many places on Earth where women get married under 15 , the age of consent is 16 in most of the "civilized" world . But most of all if a 18 yo girl drops out of school and wants to make money with her pussy there's nothing preventing her from escorting , stripping and whatever , the only result with raising the age for porn would be to hide them from the eye and let so many to sleep and dream well. a 21 age limit wouldn't stop them, but let's put the dirty under the carpet.

From a personal standpoint, I think 21 is a good age. I like the idea of people having a few years of non-obligatory schooling or non-sex work before making the choice to enter the sex industry. It does change your life, for good or ill. From a practical point of view, I'm not so sure about it A mostly industry-wide voluntary system of 21+ would only result in a ghetto-ization of 'teen' porn, where the worst of the worst are certain to swoop in and fill the vacuum. I think we can all come up with the names of a few unscrupulous mother-fuckers who would turn the 18-20 genre into a goddamned meat grinder (even more than it already is at times) given half the chance. And changing it to 21 from a legal standpoint is dubious, for a variety of reasons already mentioned in this thread. After all, it's standard that the age of consent when it comes to signing a legal contract (e.g., a model release) is 18 years of age. Regulating it beyond gets into sketchy territory. tl;dr: Quite possibly a good idea in theory, probably not in practice.

Some of you guys really need to get out of the basement if a simple question such as the one in the title leads to people analyzing the definition/history/age of puberty around the world and through the ages. Back to the question at hand. Should 21 bet he minimum age for porn? Hell no. If an 18 year old high school student wants to get naked and blow a bunch of dudes on camera to piss off her parents or make a few bucks, who am I or anyone else to stand in front of her dreams?

No it should not because that would send a very bad message to those already being fans of porn full of chicks 18-20, even though some attending in the late 90's in very old shit'll push 40 by now. It may take a bump on the late teen employment department as well.
