Hi guys (and girls), For those of that know me and those that don't, I've been having some difficulty with my stage name. I've been looking to getting a fan site up and running but because it's so hard to get a freaking domain nowadays, I have been forced to try and think of a new last name for myself. Sierraskye.com and any other way you spell it, has been taken. The owner of the domain was contacted and he won't sell it to me because as he said "his granddaughter who has the same name is more important than a pornstar". Jerk. I didn't want to have to change my name but I want my site to succeed and the sooner I get it done and out there, the better. Adding a 'xxx' to the end of the domain or anything of that nature, hurts the success of my site compared to just having my name as the domain and nothing else. Little things like that DO make a difference. So for the past week or so I've been racking my brain trying to come up with something else that's sounds just as good. Believe it or not, almost everything that I thought of was taken! People are crazy for buying random domain names and not using them! I was going to go with 'Sierra Stefani' but the guy that's going to do my website (Scott Hancock) said that because I don't look italian (which I'm not at all) it would be silly. He then came up with the name 'Sierra Skylar' and I love it! I wanted something simple and cute and it's even semi similar to 'Skye' so it makes the transition easier. I wish I would have known about my domain before I picked my name so I wouldn't have to go through this annoying process of changing it, but oh well. It's not 100% official that my new name is Sierra Skylar but I wanted to everyone out there that cares, a heads up. Once it is official, I'll make another announcement. My new content that will be coming out this week and the following will still refer to me as Sierra Skye because that was what I put filling out paperwork the time of the shoots back when I was just in LA this last time. You probably won't see the new name anywhere other than my agency page for a month or more. Once the name goes into effect and even when the site is up and running, I will let you all know!! I would make absolutely certain that you, and only you, own and control whatever domain name you end up with. Letting a webmaster "handle" this for you is just an invitation for getting screwed over. (This is not a knock on the guy you mentioned; just a general observation.)

Best of luck with your name change and branding. Here's some tips to help you succeed. 1) Think of a name first, then register it. YOU register it so you own it. This was suggested by others in the forum and it's extremely important so I thought I'd repost for truth. 2) Make your name easy to spell and remember... something easy to brand. Names like Skye, Rayne, etc... are played out. Be more creative than that. 3) The online porn market is TERRIBLE these days. If you are going to make a site, you have to be ready to put the work in. At minimum for a single girl site, you should be prepared for weekly photo/video updates, weekly live cam show, writing in a journal frequently. Also, fans love to see personal candid content as well as the usual hardcore goodies. 4) Make sure your webmaster knows what he's doing. There's a big difference of slapping some pictures on a webpage and knowing how to generate and market traffic. Make sure you both know your responsibilities and when/how they are to be completed. Other advice? If you are trading content with other talent... do 2 scenes... one for you and one for them. That way you each have full ownership... otherwise if you make money say with a DVD or VOD deal, but the other person doesn't then they can't get pissy about it. www.makemoneyfucking.com

I'm starting out with a free fan site to attract a fan base because it'll be better then just using myspace. Once I have "enough fans" I'll do a pay site. Unfortunately it's a timely process but if you're patient, which most girls aren't, you'll start making a good profit after a year. Usually when you start a site, you're newer so it takes time for people to recognize you and become a fan. It's something you think you'll make quick money on but it just takes time and definitely worth it in the end.
