Is that bad? I can't even tell if it's the fan on the back of the case or the heat sink.

or the video card fan if it is so equiped.

The noise can be just an annoyance or it could cause your computer to overheat and lead to crashes and/or self-destruct.

cause: dirty or defective

solution:
1) power down, unplug the power, open it up and clean the dust bunnies inside
2) diagnose which fan it is and replace it. Can be just a fan, video card or it can be the entire power supply.

For a minute, I thought Arthur was e-mailing you on your computer. Just the same, be sure you treat the male and female plugs equally

Have you noticed the female connectors are almost always on the cable and the male ones on the device/PCB?
A case for Oliver Stone, surely.

oatmeal's steps are correct. Open it up, clean, and inspect to determine which fan is noisy. For cleaning, I like a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. Be careful though.

I would check the fan on the cpu first. I've had to replace them in the past. They seemed to be warning me with the noise first, then they started to slow down. If you wait too long and the fan gets too slow or stops, then you will have a bigger problem. Best bet is to find it and replace it now.

Sometimes you can find a replacement fan in Staples. I actually found one in a Radio Shack once!

Online places to shop: Gigaparts Fans and Coolers page
and Newegg's Fans and Heatsinks search page

There should be lots of other places to buy fans and other parts. Let's see what other vendors are suggested by others here.
