I'm just curious how many females in the biz have attorney's. With all the contracts and licenses issues I was curious if people sign blind, consult and agent or truly have representation.

Not many and hell no!

And what makes you think they would get good legal advice from an agent?

Some agents actually have legal backgrounds.

I've heard that Tawny Roberts boyfriend is a lawyer. I don't know if it's true, but that would answer your question .

I asked this question out of curiosity. If you ask me, a good agent would have a legal background, anything else is a pimp in the business.

The only lawsuits you here about tend to be over talent stealing money, or directors not being paid.

I can't believe with all the legalities and contracts that more people aren't smarter about protecting themselves. Guess that's how porn is one of the countries biggest businesses and people are going broke in it by the minute.

Yes I've had lawyers from day one and I've won lawsuits and in fact I'm going to be in court here shortly for a makeup company the screwed me over. In the entertainment business you must always have protection. In fact we have an attorney that works in our office full time at RLD/PX

I can't speak for porn, but in the mainstream media business, the skills to be a good agent and the skills to be a good lawyer are NOT the same. It would be rare to find someone who is top-notch at both I'd think.

Then again, I'm not sure if the porn industry needs to do as much "selling."

Wow, a make-up company? I'm surprised that would lead to a lawsuit.

I don't think Jewel's talking about a makeup artist. Jewel created her own line of makeup, if memory serves.

Jewel, I think your the exception to the rule when it comes to female porn performers. You seem to have come into the business with your eyes wide open, determined to gain as much (if not more) from it, than it did from you.

As a producer and director, Jewel, what do you think about the level of legal savvy new girls display?

Jewel also has a little more legal savvy due to her background and the people that care about her.

I've actually seen more girls with lawyers these days then back when I started and I feel it's because they've seen what happens to contract stars like Tera Patrick,Myself,Jenna etc... have gone through to protect our careers from leaches and they don't want to end up with the same headaches. And it's a makup company I invested in that's my next battle. I just don't lay down and die and let everyone make money off of me I'll fight for what's mine bar none. I try to set an example to the new starlets to not make mistakes early on, get a lawyer and cover your ass.

Sorry, I'm drawing a blank dude. It was your statement, can you back it up or not? Don't try to shift the burden to me.

Is there a 100 dollar Sabrine Maui bet on the line? I don't have to out anyone on a msg board just to prove anything. You asked why should I (or PCP) think a girl is getting good legal advice from an agent? I gave you a reason that I know of from my experiences (where I actually talk shop with them).

I trust that the more you deal with them, the more you'll recognise those who know their shit and those that don't.

Wow, that's a rather hostile reply. LOL

Do you always get this angry when someone asks you for more supporting facts to your own statements? Why not just say who you are referring to? Why the secrecy? You're guarding this information more viligently than KFC guards the secret to their original recipe chicken.

You're the one making some empty smartass rhetorical remark to the original spectrum question. What do you expect when you start making comments about shifting the burden of proof?

Jewel, solid feedback. It's good to hear that more women are seeking legal counsel. Anybody can get a lawyer to defend themselves, a smart business person has someone on retainer.

With all the liability and money in play it's good for both sides to have a legal sleuth in their pocket.

Funny! ... but in this case, it would seem the information is not so confidential since Morbid claims to "know" it.

Furthermore, I would think these alleged agents would want the girls to know their *superior* credentials. It's a selling point isn't it? After all, that is what pushed the thread in this direction -- Morbid asserted starlets could get solid legal advice from their agents since they were lawyers. Doesn't make much sense to conceal it. You can't have it both ways -- hiding it and using it as a competitive advantage at the same time.

Plus, it would be doing female talent a favor to steer them in the right direction. I'm sure a lot of starlets would like to know "who knows their shit and who doesn't" as Morbid so elegantly phrased it. The knowledge would help them a whole lot more than me. For my purposes, it really doesn't matter much.

I didn't think morbid's reply was hostile at all, he's just giving what is common courtesy by not dropping any names, which you (or I and others) aren't necesarily entitled to.

You asked a question, you got an answer. Just because it wasn't the answer you're looking for doesn't mean it was a wrong one.

I'm envious! I went to a salad bar place (similar to Soup Plantation). It cost more and probably didn't taste as good. =)

Morbid, is it that you just don't like Snowman, or something? This is silly. There's no privacy issue I could imagine here ... being a bar-certified attorney is a matter of public record, & easily accessible info through the bar association. It's also in no way something one would WANT to keep secret -- unless they were fibbing. Having a law degree is considered an accomplishment, is it not? It's not like we're pointing out that Skeeter Kerkove remains on the Megan's Law site, which is also information available to the public but perhaps not generally considered as lofty an accomplishment. Except by Gene Ross, evidently.

On that note, though I have not dealt personally with EVERY agent in the business, I've dealt with a heck of a lot of them, & I would have to say that unless you're thinking Don Hollywood qualifies as an "agent," only Chris from Foxxx, Regan Senter & that very nice gentleman Robert who only books softcore would even have the educational background to gain entry to law school, much less pass the bar.

Now on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised to discover that a few of these fellows might qualify as "jailhouse lawyers" ...

If someone doesn't want you to mention their law degree -- or bar certification -- I would think it's a pretty sure bet it's because it doesn't exist. If you think the internet can be littered with bullshit artists, more time in porn valley would really awe you. Or does anybody actually believe Kurt Lockwood really toured as the Ramones bass player? Or that whatever no-name psuedonym these new-jack gonzo companies come up with really is "a prominent Hollywood video &/or TV director who's decided to do porn on the side," like every fifth press release on AVN.com last year claimed?

You may be assured it is certain, on the other hand, that I am actually the mulatto son of a recently disposed Ethiopian dictator, & that I have several hundred thousand dollars in offshore accounts that I can only gain access to through your credit-card number.

Cheers,
dac
