2 houses featured in porn movies that i would like to know about:
1) the house used in all the recent jules jordan movies.... is the owner somebody i should know about? or is it just some house rented from some random schmoe because it looks nice? can ya tell me anything else about it?
2) that really, really colorful house that has a grand circular room with red leather sofas and blue walls and an outside patio overlooking the valley complete with a red stone-henge foundation and waterfall..... who owns this one? any other info? how many movies been shot here?
That house was built specifically for use as a movie set according to what the owner told me. He designed it himself. It has also been used for a ton of music videos and non-porn flicks but it's rented just about every day in between by assorted porn studios. How many movies have been shot there? Hard to say but it's easily the most shot-at location in porn valley. Lots of $$$$
The Jordan estate eh? Is Jules Jordan a rich guy? Does he make $500,000+ per year? If he is that's awesome as I didn't know gonzo porno was still so lucrative what with the hyper competitiveness of the industry.
Interesting. As a finance major I am interested in the financial side of the porn business.
Who ultimately profits the most in the porn biz and is it a wild west style of business or are there actual analyst's calculating project NPVs and IRRs?
What is the management structure of a place like Evil Angel or Zero Tolerance and how does that compare to Hustler or Vivid?
Why is Jules Jordan making so much money compared to all the other directors out there (im assuming there is a reason besides his films being top notch).
It's simple: He owns his own product, & it is distributed by the most successful gonzo company ever.
(And before Jordanites & Jules himself gets their panties in a bunch cuz I didn't factor in how very, very good his stuff is -- that's not what the man asked about)
Ah interesting. I didn't know he owned his own product. Sorry for asking so many questions but it's just really interesting to me.
So in general how does this arrangement work? He pockets most of the revenue from his DVDs and pays Evil Angel the distribution costs plus a fee? Does Evil Angel finance his shoots and provide equipment?
Also, owning your own content seems like a really sweet setup. Was this originally not the case but then he renegotiated when he became really popular? Did he threaten to bolt and start his own company?

I was always curious about the mansion used in "50 Guy Cream Pie". The landscape was beautiful, I couldn't even begin to guess on the square footage of that place.
I also noticed some old dude in a green robe pass through the scene. I think he was smoking, wearing slippers. Never go into the action - just passing through. Made me laugh.
"Evil Angel, or "The Evil Empire" is a company owned by me, John Stagliano, that is organized in a completely different way than any other video porno company. I sell my videos, and I also sell the videos of several other directors. We are different in that I do not own the videos of these other directors. I only sell their videos and keep a percentage of the gross sales as a fee for my services. I started this arrangement because of my experience selling videos to other porno companies. They would buy my videos and own them themselves. I found that it was very difficult to build my reputation with the public this way, and also, I did not get any more money if I did a video that sold exceptionally well.
At Evil Angel I wanted to create a situation where the directors could be rewarded for the hard work they put into creating their product. Here the directors make more money if their videos sell more. This is a great incentive for them to find new and better ways to make videos. All indications are that this system works very well. The tapes and DVD's that we make are the best-selling in the business. Each one of our directors is unique in style and content, but similar in their commitment to create the best product possible."
Enjoy, John "Buttman" Stagliano
The cable and hotel companies probably are the biggest money makers. The earn enough of it that they don't give in to pressure from the anti-porn campaigners. They are happy to take the profits but won't admit to it or defend it.
I always like seeing a porn filmed at this house. Such a great place and helps lead to a quality product. How great that it was specifically built (as Quasar wrote) to be rented for movie/TV productions. I have yet to see it in a legitimate mainstream production. It would be a kick to see it be featured in some HGTV show about houses.
Although I was originally as enthralled by these beautiful estates as anyone else, I find myself growing weary of them...maybe its the repetition ("Familiarity breeds contempt?"), who knows?! But I also think that some diversity would be nice...why do all vids have to occur in these palatial mansions? Don't we normal people ever have sex anymore?!
