The 60 Day Moratorium

That type of thing belongs in the Press Releases/News forum. I am starting this to simply ask a question. Obviously, the health concerns of the performers take precedent here and surely some companies will cease production. And maybe some companies will ignore AIM's recommended (shouldn't it be mandatory?) moratorium and continue shooting, perhaps with condoms. What I am curious is what does this mean for the companies that do subscribe to the moratorium? Will they simply make due by turning to the stuff they have in the can and just editing it and working on it in the interim, getting it ready for release sooner than they originally planned? The health of all performers needs to be top priority at all times so whatever needs to be done to contain this unfortunate outbreak has to occur. I would imagine there is lots in the can for the companies to busy themselves so you might see earlier releases for films until this case is put into tighter focus. I just wish the best for all involved and I feel there will be some positive results and I would be so happy to be proven wrong on that point! Wishes go out to all the ladies on the list and especially to Darren who from what I've seen is a stand up guy and this is just so sad this happened to him and much credit to him for doing what he did right away when his + status was discovered. Rob Longshot Member 146 Posts 2/04	Posted - Apr 14 2004 : 3:24PM ok, ill be the voice of dissent here. i believe that as soon as the second and third gen lists are known we should go back to shooting. there are many more talent that will not be on the lists. there is no reason that production cannot continue with the parties who are not on the lists. in the meantime due to at the very least a slowdown many girls and guys will be struggling finacially. now is the time yo show you are true fans and buy a membership to their sites and help them continue to pay rent and eat while this blows over. That's kind of what I was thinking when I wrote my original post. It seems likely that a lot of girls will have to return to dancing until things cool down. However, not every girl is or was also a stripper. And I have no clue what guys will do to make up for the slack. Call me crazy, but isn't likely that this scare will serve to weed out a lot of these girls, especially the newer ones? The whole situation sucks. With the government crack down on its day, this is especially unfortunate timing, not that it would be good timing either way. We all feel for Darren and everyone now entangled in his web and this sudden business change will surely be tough for a lot of people. Which gets me back to my original point of what exactly companies are going to do with this moratorium. Kelly [Link]

There is so much already shot that can be released I'd really hope the companies would be responsible and make sure there all is as safe as possible before shooting again. [Link]

People who haven't shot with any of these people should be allowed to shoot with current tests. [Link]

I have faith that it will get back on track just more steps need to be taken for those who shoot out of the country so when they return they are fully tested and cleared before they go to work again so we don't have to experience this kind of tragedy again. *Mutt* Deactivated User 752 Posts 8/03	Posted - Apr 14 2004 : 4:51PM until those 12 girls are completely cleared the risk of something very bad remains. as somebody said - the moment one of those girls tests postive god forbid - the list of second generation people becomes first generation and a whole new list of second generation people are at substantial risk - and should anybody in that new list of first generation test positive .....ugh .......... with AIM's new 60 day quarantine to clear this first group we are talking months if the goal is total containment of this. anybody who works with the generation two people before 60 days is up is burying their heads in the sand bigtime - because there's a good chance some of those people are going to turn out to be first generation. let's pray none of those 12 girls has been infected. Click to expand you haven't read Sharon Mitchell's statements very well. There is an unknown list of people and it's a bigger list than the current second generation list of people - right now it's a 'third generation' list. When one or more of the these 12 girls tests positive this unknown list of people become exactly the same risk as the group on the secondary list now. and Sharon Mitchell doesn't have that list yet nor does anybody else. So the truth is that ANYBODY you work with now could be in reality a secondary list member already. [Link]

*Mutt* Deactivated User 752 Posts 8/03	Posted - Apr 14 2004 : 5:12PM yeah - but when u work out the length of time to clear this first group - 60 days - two months - then if one or more of the girls from this original group test positive near the end of 60 days - u are adding another 60 days - theoretically if the goal is to contain this ....... uh.....this is a clusterfuck. people will be shooting, they can try to cut down the odds but nobody who shoots for the next few months can be sure if they're working with a time bomb. I really hope AIM has some kind of software program for this type of event so once they have all this data they can make sense of it - might have to call in for some help from CDC in Atlanta if the worst happens and a girl tests positive [Link]

But I will say that I think we all agree that this is a real shame, and I wish for the best for everyone on all 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation lists, and by association all those who work in the industry. One thing to be sure of, the adult industry can't afford to fuck up here. All I ask as a devoted fan, and someone who really does care about the industry's long term health, as well as the people involved is that everyone from performers to producers be responsible . Get all the information, and make informed decisions. Cavalier attitudes and groping blindly for profit at a time like this might not not only destroy the industry, it might destroy many people's lives in the process. Take responsibility for yourselves, and for each other. Get through the crisis methodically, and above all, be careful. The fans will still be here, and so will the money. I'm looking at the boxcover of White Butts Drippin' Chocolate Nuts 2 from Evasive Angles which was shot in Canada and Darren James is in it. The date of production is 3/15/2004 and on the boxcover I see Darren doing an anal scene with Judy Star (I haven't seen the movie yet). I can only pray this scene was shot before he went to Brazil but then again Judy Star is also on the list but Max Black is also in the scene with Darren James and Judy Star but I didn't see his name on the list. I echo all comments regarding safety & responsibile actions. The question I have is, with some creative scheduling of product is a 60 day moratorium really that much of a killer to companies? I would imagine in the case of the larger, more established companies with deeper catalogues, titles that have yet to hit DVD could be focused on and gotten on the shelves in place of new product. As for the smaller companies, I don't know. Again, are there enough scenes & videos in the pipeline that releases could be slowed down enough so that a 2 month break would not be that noticeable to the general consumer? Let me say it was really weird and hard to watch knowing what I know now. The scene for Straight A Student from RLD is with Roxy Jezel and it smokes or it would really be a great scene if I didn't know what I know. The sex is really good and Darren is on top of his game as is Roxy who has such a cute fuckable ass. Until I know the whole story I'll keep reviewing scenes with Darren in them, I'd like to think the best but still it won't be easy describing scenes with him in it, nor the girls I have seen on the list. I just got a PXP title with Kayla Marie and Sean Michaels in it. They aren't in the same scene though Mark Davis works with Kayla and Mark's on the list. Man this situation sucks and not on a good level. I wish the best and hope the # of people who test positive stays at a small # as I feel certain more than Darren will become infected. [Link]

While the first-generation has been identified and quarantined, and AIM is rapidly creating a quarantine list for the second-generation, there is no doubt that there is already a third- and even fourth-generation in the outbreak. The third- and fourth-generation is not being quarantined; AIM simply can’t track down that many people fast enough. Thus we recommend that all adult companies cease production, or at the minimum shoot condom-only productions, until all women who have worked with Darren James since his last negative test, known as the “first-generation” have cleared. That will be on June 8, 2004. In addition, we recommend that any woman who has performed with Darren James since Feb. 25 contact AIM. Most women in this category will have already passed their 30-day window, but as AIM’s Dr. Sharon Mitchell stated this morning there is a 60-day window before a person who has had sex with an HIV-positive partner can be 99 percent certain that infection has not occurred. James is believed to have caught the virus while in Brazil around March 10, and later today AIM should be able to give a “guesstimate” of when that happened based on further tests on the amount of antibodies in James’ blood. This is about the lives of our friends, our family, and our peers. While it is highly unlikely, it is possible that every performer in the adult industry could have HIV by this point. If you are talent and choose to work, your putting your life and also anyone with whom you have any form of sexual contact your partner’s at risk. If you are a production company that hires talent that becomes infected with HIV during one of your productions – you may be found liable. Think about that when you’re looking at your balance sheets and your conscience. You will definitely lose two months worth of production, but you could lose your entire company and live out your life knowing you contributed to someone’s death for your profit. Another consideration is that the government is watching the manner in which the adult industry handles this very closely. The specter of regulation still looms over our shoulders and if the state deems that we, as an industry, handled this situation in an irresponsible manner, then this could be the final straw. That means condom-only forever. There are two companies, Vivid Video and Wicked Pictures, which have been producing condom-only videos for some time in the face of market demand for videos without condoms. Their decision to place the safety of their performers above their profit should be commended; it should also serve as an example. Tim Connelly, publisher of AVN adds, “If you are a performer in the adult industry at this moment, your body could very well be a deadly weapon and if you are a production company you are potentially putting innocent people in the line of fire. Some may consider this business a high wire act for performers, but there’s no reason to play Russian Roulette for the sake of another porn scene.” [Link]

Hal Member 8 Posts 4/04	Posted - Apr 14 2004 : 7:39PM I've been a lurker here for quite some time but I finally felt a need to post something.As much as I love to see my favourite stars having the hottest,nastiest sex on camera I really don't want them to jeopardize their lives by doing just that.When it all boils down to it it's all just entertainment.On average,(not scientific I admit)a girl might get five years in the buisness if she's lucky.Is that worth the risk of death?Even though I'll probably never even know any of these girls(or guys)I don't want anything bad to happen to them.I don't really like to see condoms in the scenes that I watch but I really don't think it's fair to criticize the performers that insist on them anymore.After all,it's their lives that are at stake,not the viewers.
