The Judd Apatow cabal owes Stormy an apology.

I just got back from a preview screening of "Pineapple Express" and Stormy Daniels' role has been cut from the movie. Add this to the role she had in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" that was cut (I'm almost sure. I didn't see that movie. She's not listed in it on imdb) and her cut scenes from "40 year-old Virgin", and it almost seems like Judd Apatow and his "buddies" are getting cold feet about putting a major adult actress in a mainstream film. This is going to seem like MAJOR a** kissing but from what I've seen of Ms. Daniels she appears to be a very intelligent, beautiful young woman who is sexy and has a real flair for comedy. Sure, she was in "Knocked Up" but I think she could do very well in actual non-sex/non-nudity mainstream roles. I really hope she gets a chance. But this is BS. I really don't want to be an opinion Nazi. And I think that most of the people on this message board enjoy Mr. Apatow's films (ones he directed, produced, wrote, executive produced, etc. You know the ones I'm talking about. Most involve Will Ferrell in some combination, as well.) AND the people around me seemed to enjoy parts of it (but they hadn't paid $10 to see it, either.) But it's a true insult to cut ANYTHING Stormy Daniels filmed for this movie because "Pineapple Express" is bad. Jaw-droppingly bad. It doesn't have any feel of a "stoner" movie. It's just Seth Rogan and James Franco smoking pot, running around, screaming and acting frantic. That's it. That's the entire movie crossed with a "Miami Vice" episode. It's a real torturous movie to sit through. I believe Ms. Daniels role was the wife of "Red", one of the drug dealers. If you squint, you can see her in a couple of pictures on the wall. Maybe her cut scenes (and the ones cut from "Sarah Marshall") will wind up on the respective DVDs (like her cut scenes for "40 year-old Virgin" did) but it's so silly because, in my opinion, the stuff that gets let IN Apatow movies, is just stupid, sophomoric crap that thinks it's a lot funnier than it actually is. Stormy Daniels' role in "Dirt" was a good start. I hope she can find some good, challenging roles in some mainstream features. But I hope she doesn't tie her star to Judd Apatow films because that ship is sinking. Brian P.S. Even the fantastic M.I.A. track "Paper Planes" (which samples The Clash's "Straight To Hell") which is featured prominently in the trailer has been cut from the film. P.P.S. Could someone please clear something up for me? In 2008, the lasting version of a film is the one released on DVD which usually now is "unrated." I'm not talking about the "Unrated" DVD version of "40 Year-Old Virgin" but was the Stormy "fantasy" sequence in the version shown in theaters? I KNOW I didn't see it when I saw "40 Year-Old Virgin" in the theater. All it showed were some fast-forwarded clips from "Space Nuts." I don't know why it would have been cut out. Everyone's going to say "Dude, it's IN the movie" but I'm talking about the THEATER version NOT the DVD version. Maybe the print I saw was defective or something. [Link]

Apatow cut one of his "cabal" as you call them from her role in Knocked Up and I'm pretty it wasn't personal either. You're reading waaaaaay too much into this. I hate the trend now that women are seldom fully nude anymore, certainly they are not full-frontal nude. But yet you see plenty of man-ass and even some johnson nowadays. Many of the "unrated" don't have them either. Who knew the late 80's/early 90's were the golden age of full-frontal. At least we have porn. [Link]

I have seen porn star that I've thought could make the leap to so called legit/mainstream work and thought they deserved a chance. And I admit on the rare occasion I recognize some porn movie or model chick in something "mainstream" it's kind of cool, it's a "Hey I know that chick! I've seen her naked/fuck." and you kind of look around with a grin on your face and wonder if anyone else around is in on it or if it's just you. But then I get over it real quick. But, if you're in a movie and your scenes get cut, you get paid for your work, but you lose out on any residuals that you would have received from DVD sales or TV airings. [Link]

So that's probably a line that explains why we don't see Red's wife. I doubt if Stormy's cut scenes were of her in jail. I guess that line was added to explain why we never see Red's wife. Hey, if the general public loves Seth Rogan screaming and whining in a high-pitched voice, people getting endlessly shot and beat up and everyone saying "Dude!" a lot then this thing will gross more than "The Dark Knight." In my opinion, it's just dull, has a weak, weak script (I'm not kissing her ass again but ANY script Stormy has written has to be better than "Pineapple Express"'s) and is terribly directed (and yes, I know it's directed by indie auteur David Gordon Green.) Candy Apples had some dialogue during the party scene and looked great. Little Cinderella had her scene scoring drugs and then OD'ing. Veronica Hart played a judge and had some lines. Nina Hartley was in at least two scenes, mostly on her back but powerful as they instigated William H Macy's suicide. [Link]

The incomprable Jeanna Fine can also be seen in the film as well. "Boogie Nights" does have its fair share of porn stars in it. Being about the porn industry, I think it gives the film much more credibility to do so. Sometmes the directo can be incredibly wrong about this. Take Kevin Smith for example. I feel his decision to cut the Fat Albert sequence out of Dogma really hurt the movie. Yeah I still enjoy it, but I feel that scene was eroniously(sp?) cut, but it's not my call to make. Though sometimes, the director might not know best. Hell, look at the Donnie Darko director's cut. THat's an instance where the original cut was the way to go. Then there are those times when the stuff that was cut that the fans find out about sounds like gold and you find out it wasn't the director's decision, but a studi one. Obviously this last example happens much more on big studio movies, but it happens. There are several reasons why a scene or scenes could be cut. But don't hold judgement on those reasons until you see what they were. They could be gems that really helped a movie, or something that did nothng but slow it down. I liked Undertow and I think he's a pretty good director. And despite what Brian said, and being a Stormy fan, I'll be seeing Pineapple Express regardless. Although I just saw Superbad recently and I gotta say it was AIGHT. Sucks they ragged on McLovin that bad and at times I couldn't fucking stand Jonah Hill's character.
