Gone are the days when Pornstars had fun just fucking on film. They seemed to love making movies for their fans and meeting them at conventions, not even escorting. Seems as if there is a new Pornstar Business Model now, consisting of these five areas.

Escorting – This how Pornstars meet the fans, maybe I should say rich fans. Seems to be more the mainstay now of 95% of Pornstars and is discussed here in several threads here at ADT!
Web Scenes / Movies – Are now made mainly to drive up the rates for escorting and keeping the name out in the public. At least Pornstars are still making them, gotta hope this never ends!
Wish Lists – Why would anyone want to send something or purchase things off their lists. It’s not gonna make you part of their life, which ultimately is what these fans apparently want and off course a fuck! I think there is a thread already here about wish lists too.
Social Media – Facebook and Twitter have really given porn lovers a way to get to know what the pornstars are all about. Usually only to find out that their on screen persona is a heck of a lot better than reading what they have to say or what their all about. You get to see all the rants, just recently Nica Noelle got into it with Stormy Daniels and then with Mercedes Ashley . Also if you don’t constantly compliment them or stroke there ego’s you will get the pornstar censorship!
Camming like Streamate - is the worst thing going now! You can see a pornstar play solo on cam for $2.99 to $6.99 a minute to get you off. If you did a 15 minute private it would cost you between $ 44.85 to $104.85 with whatever Pornstar you want. Wouldn’t it be better to just buy a DVD or download some XXX movies. At least you get to keep it. It almost seems like Pornstars are pan hand ling and I gotta believe the hosting must take a big chunk of the money. You also get to see how bored some of these Pornstars are on Cam. Recently saw Houston looking so bored, Gina Lynn saying if no one would do a private she done camming for the evening. Every Pornstar does their thing in a nice type of bedroom setting, but Teri Weigel does it on her bathroom floor. Pretty comical when Teri Weigel thought her cam was off and mentioned that it was a waste of time for the little amount of money she had made. It is almost like the place where non active pornstars go!
Maybe I’m looking back to the day when Pornstars just had fun fucking on film and seem to like it!

Are you sure those days ever existed?
Maybe I'm just too young, but it's hard to imagine a time where porn stars did everything just for fun... even in the Sexual Revolution era. Or that porn performers could ever survive without at least some kind of business model. When they use now new technological means that porn stars of former times didn't have available (like social media, wishlists, webcam), does that really automatically imply that they have less "fun" in doing their job?
And again, I supposed that the escorting thing, or let's say, some kind of grey area between porn and this kind of business, always existed. Are you sure that in former decades porn actresses never did that, and that there was always a clear-cut divide between those sides of the adult entertainmeant branches?

Who knows if they escorted back then, if they did it was really under the radar! Seems like the escort phenomena all started in the very late 90's with Pornstars Sunset Thomas and Teri Weigel becoming prostitutes at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch!
I have heard many of the Pornstar's who fucked on film before the late 90's talk about how it was a select group that knew each other and fucked all the time. Even Inari Vachs mentioned it was much more fun in her first stint in Porn!
Maybe fans know too much about today's Pornstar's via social media! Pornstar's were more the fantasy before all this!

Yeah, that was weird on twitter - I don't know either of those women at all, I have no idea why they came at me. Whatevs! Just spell my name right!
Obviously the culprit here is the internet. Social media, wishlists, even escorting (or at least your ability to see who's escorting by checking their website) are all post-internet phenomena.

I think your imagined past is very romanticised. I do agree though that social media has removed some of the mystique that distance gave the best performers.

I think most of these things really took off when piracy/tube sites really started putting a dent in things. Most girls don't work enough or don't make enough off the porn scenes they shoot for that to be their only focus, like it more commonly could have been before that.
As far as the social media aspect of porn is concerned personally i find it pretty easy just to ignore most of it. My guess is that you would be happier if you just followed your favorite companies/directors, you can stay well informed about upcoming scenes without most of the other stuff even getting mentioned.

I'm going to sit on the fence here in this thread. I think each poster has made very reasonable arguments. I think social media is a very clever marketing tool but as previously stated it removes the 'mystique'. But what about piracy? I don't know. There are so many forces to consider these days. So many players on the market. For just one example take a look at the European Studio Private. For decades they were such a powerhouse but now in my opinion they absolutely suck. They in no way lead the European/World market any more. Who would've thought? As the orginal poster pointed out with his 5 key areas. This thread is a very interesting case study.

Yeah, I agree social networking has changed the game somewhat. At the end of the day, though, a girl's gotta make a buck however she can and that has always been the case.

I don't disagree with the OP's description of what the key areas of today's business are. Not all pornstars use all these areas, and not to the same amount, but these are the options they can consider nowadays, whether they decide to use them or not.
And how this came about and how it changes the mentality of people in porn, is certainly an interesting topic.
I just disagree with the conclusion that pornstars of today are thus inferior in their ethics ("not loving making movies for the fans" etc.).
