My theory is this: porn as we know it will not be destroyed by more repression, but by society being so sexually free that Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese and Sofia Coppola will be able to include any form of sexual expression they want in their films and not be socially punished. Once Hollywood is free to show explicit sex, then, as much as I love Evil Angel and Wicked, no one will choose the sturdy stepchild that is contemporary mainstream pornography. It'll be like Avatar vs an 80's cable-access program. I mean really...can you imagine a cumshot compilation directed by Hype Williams? That he could openly promote on The View? My goddess...what a wonderful world that would be. Or The Unbearable Lightness of Being with proud lights on the sex scenes? We could use the power of Hollywood to bring sex's beauty to brobdingnagian proportions! And *then*...my sisters in the sex industry will not be shunned after they leave it. They will be put on fucking pedestals and worshipped...openly and publicly! (as opposed to privately in man caves). Who's that walking the red carpet with Shia LeBeouf? Oh, it's host of "America's Got Talent" Zoe Zebra! And who's that giving the commencement speech at Vassar? It's Professor Nina Hartley! Recommending that people not get into porn because of the stigma attached is kinda like telling a Jewish kid to not tell anyone he's Jewish because of the stigma attached.
